Couldn’t be happier

We bought a Mercedes at the end of last year and honestly couldn’t be happier. Dan and Stu were great from start to finish. We met at their indoor showroom which was ideal as we could take our time looking around the car out of the rain. We both test drove it and loved it, and at no point did we feel any pressure which made the decision really easy. We’re really pleased with our purchase and would highly recommend these lads. Thanks again

Beware!

I purchased a 2010 Lexus RX450 in June 2025 from D B Specialist Cars. At the time of sale, I was informed that the vehicle had recently passed an MOT with zero advisories. I was also told by Dan that the underside of the car was in “mint” condition for a second-hand 2010 vehicle.
Unfortunately, this representation has proven to be completely inaccurate.
Around two months after purchase, I began to have concerns about visible rust and emailed Dan to raise this. Unfortunately, those concerns were not properly addressed.
Eight months after purchase, the vehicle failed its MOT due to severe rust and corrosion, including two large holes in the underside. These are significant structural issues that would not develop over 8 months of us owning it and raise serious questions about the condition of the vehicle at the time it was sold. It is particularly concerning that no rust or corrosion was noted on the MOT carried out prior to sale and any Pre MOT Checks carried out by the dealership.
As a customer viewing the vehicle in a showroom setting, there was no way for me to properly inspect the underside myself. I relied on the dealership’s description and honesty.
Since purchasing the car, I have already spent nearly £2,000 on repairs with an MOT failure. I emailed Dan at the time with my concerns and after emails chasing him for a response, the only contribution offered was £50, which I consider very inadequate given the extent of the corrosion and dishonesty. Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend that any potential buyer arranges a fully independent inspection before purchasing from this business.

Hi, we are very sorry you feel this way. It’s very difficult when selling cars that are 15-20 years old. We always send to an independant MOT tester. We get lots pass and lots fail and then complete any work needed. Admittedly, my use of the word mint shouldn’t have been used. It’s what the garage told me. I also looked underneath the car and it only looked like the usual surface corrosion that would be expected of a 15 year old car. The car was in the showroom and I your husband was underneath the car. He also informed me he was a former motor engineer that worked for McLaren in Surrey. So for us to miss it, him to miss it and the MOT garage to miss it seems very unlucky. I would also say, the reality of how quickly corrosion can grow in certain conditions ln British weather can be quite shocking. Your husband told me he had planned to underseal the underneath of the car to prevent the rust really setting in. I’m guessing he didn’t do this in the end. We try our best to be transparent and make all our cars prepared to the best standard they can be. The only way to guarantee all components are truly “mint” would be to buy a new car. Unfortunately Japanese cars aren’t built for the UK weather. We now have a ramp in the showroom so a customer can request to view underneath the car before purchasing. We also welcome any inspections

Car not fit for purpose

Bought a car end of Nov 25. A black mini cooper - green wing mirrors - NG11 BZV. Whilst selling the car to me, they couldnt be more helpful, however after it was evident the car was not fit for purpose and needs a new engine. I contacted them 2 days after purchase about this problem.
I was met with unhelpfulness, delay tactics and 3 cancelled oppurtunities across 4 weeks to return the vehicle.
The car has gone straight back up for sale on their website whilst it was still in my ownership and possession.
Great service - providing you don't come across any problems.
I understand second hand cars could have problems but how it was dealt with could have been so much better and less stressful if I didnt have to chase up, nag and threaten trading standards just to return the car within the first month of having it.

Hi Debbie,

I’m sorry you feel like this. Your partner bought the car for himself and is a fully qualified and currently a car mechanic. He fully inspected and test drove the car and was happy with it. We told him there was a small oil leak from the rocker cover and we paid for him to do it. This was all agreed before you bought the car. The only reason he found out there was a problem was after driving it and noticing it was using oil. We offered to buy it back straight away. I must add, this all happened in December before Christmas. In the motor trade we work lots and lots of hours all year and use December as our holiday time as it’s much quieter for business than the rest of the year. So yes, we did have some holidays in December so weren’t available to collect the car at all times and I apologise for that. We are only a small team and we did also have some staff off with illness as there was lots of Flu and Covid going around in December. I myself, was off Ill for 3 days. We gave you a full refund and you seemed happy. We always check our cars over but there is always the odd rare circumstance that something is missed as it doesn’t come apparent until driving a number of miles. As I said, we did the right thing and returned all your money then fixed the car.

Not fit for purpose

Purchased a C Class Mercedes C350. Great sales pitch Dan and Stu, The car had faults within 24 hours. Took it to a proper Mercedes specialist. Found to be not fit for purpose. Riddled with dangerous faults. Rust, brakes, tyres, oil leaks. Subframe rusted through. Flat battery.
Dealer not helpful at all. Ignores emails. A total rip off. My advice is to use a main dealer.

Hi there,

I’m really sorry you’re not fully happy with our service. We sell around 250 cars a year and most of our customers are extremely happy and return to buy more cars from us and their families. Admittedly, it’s a tough trade to make every person happy. Some customers expectation of a used car can also be a bit unrealistic. The car you bought was a 2007 Mercedes Cclass with a full service history and just passed a brand new MOT at one of our local MOT garages. The fact that you advise people to buy from a Mercedes main dealer does perhaps indicate your expectation is a little unrealistic as they only sell cars up to around 3 years old and not everyone can afford cars like that. I struggled to believe that the MOT garage we used missed as many things as your garage made out were missed and I asked for you to pop it back into our workshop so we can put up on the ramp and have a look ourself but you said that you had already sold the car. I really don’t know what else we could have done. I believe the garage was trying to get you pay for work that didn’t actually need doing. We have come across this a lot over the years so I just wanted to have a look at the car as the garage did not take any pictures to send me. Once again, I apologise that you feel the way you do

How buying a car should be!

I can’t recommend these guys enough. The whole car buying service was fast, courteous, and friendly. Dan and Stu were constantly in touch, to keep me in the loop with progress, and Stu even picked me up from the train station, when I arrived to pick up the car.
The paperwork had all been taken care of, and overall the whole purchase was a hassle-free experience. No pressure, and I was back on the road with my new wheels in a hour.
I’ve been stung a couple of times previously when buying used. However, this time was a pleasure and I’d happily recommend to anyone thinking of getting a used car.
Nice one guys!

Exceptional service

Exceptional service
I can't thank Dan and Stu at D B specialists enough for their time and communication they made buying our Mercedes CLA Shootingbrake a pleasurable experience.

Dan went out of his way to provide a full video walk through of the car, pointing out even the smallest detail, this was followed up with a video call to make sure we were happy with what we had seen.

The car was delivered to our door from Cwmbran to North Wales and at no point was there any pressure on my wife and I to purchase. The following day we received a courtesy call to make sure we were still happy with the car, we are.

I have added DB Specialists to my address book and will be recommending them to family.

Thank you
