Hello,

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear about the confusion you experienced at the port and the difficulty you had when trying to re-enter the correct area.

We understand how the similarity between the DFDS and Direct Ferries names could have caused confusion, particularly in a busy port environment. However, the barriers and traffic arrangements at the port are managed by the ferry operators and port authorities rather than Direct Ferries.

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and hope your next journey is a much smoother experience.

Kind regards,
Direct Ferries

Hi,
Thanks for reaching out about your experience with your booking (Order Reference Number: 199608676). I understand your frustration with the service and website.
I see that your booking was cancelled at your request, and the cancellation was processed according to the ticket conditions since the fare was non-refundable.

Thank you for your patience while we look into this.

Never use this site

We booked thru you because we needed to get to a port to catch our cruise ship which we missed due to a delayed flight. It was a ferry between two unfamiliar ports in two different countries and the ferry is only once per day. We were not told that we had to check in for security and customs an hour before the embarkation time, so we arrived 35 minutes early only to be told that we couldn't board. There were no other options for us at that time so we are now stranded with no refund and having paid $300 in taxi fees to the port and almost as much for a hotel nearby. All you had to do was tell us to be at the port an hour early, but you couldn't be bothered. This is a HORRIBLE website that just takes people's money, and I hate that your site comes up on a Google search at all, let alone as the top result. UPDATE: I have a screenshot of my confirmation of booking that refutes the DF response below, but I don't see how to attach it to this review. The one sent in email did mention the check in time at the bottom, but the screenshot from the site did not.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to update your review and for providing further clarification. We understand your frustration and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience you experienced.

We appreciate your comment regarding the screenshot from the website. However, we would like to clarify that the check-in information is available during the booking process. If you search for a sailing on our website and select the sailing you wish to book, you will see a number of information tabs displayed underneath the sailing. These tabs can be opened to view the relevant information for that particular crossing, including a dedicated “Check-in” tab which provides the required check-in information.

This information is therefore available to customers before completing their booking, and the required check-in time was also included in your booking confirmation email.

We understand that you may have overlooked the information during the booking process, and we are sorry that this unfortunately resulted in you arriving at the port without sufficient time to complete the required check-in procedures. However, as the information was provided both during the booking process and in your confirmation email, we are unfortunately unable to accept responsibility for the consequences of it being overlooked.

We do genuinely sympathise with the situation you experienced and appreciate how frustrating this must have been. We also appreciate you bringing your concerns regarding the way the information is displayed to our attention, and we will take your feedback into consideration when reviewing how we can make important travel information as clear as possible.

Kind regards,
Direct Ferries.
