Jokeshop

If I could have given no stars I would have.
Absolutely appalling customer service, bought x2 boxes of their ristretto pods for my new coffee machine 17 out 80 failed to give a cup of coffee. When I complained about this I was given the run-a- round, Having to repeat the same things over and over explaining I no longer had the receipt, packaging and pods (I had sent pic though) explaining the s'mkt would not deal with it as no receipt or packaging etc. Obstructive and basically rubbish. I won't ever buy Douwe egberts crap again and would & will advise anyone else not to waste their money.

Was always my go to Instant Coffee

Was always my go to Instant Coffee, after Nescafé totally ruined Gold Blend about 5 years ago, when they changed from Arabica to truly awful Robusta! Nescafé thought nobody would notice, and they could continue to sell ot, but at much lower quality, and with that weird, bitter over roasted taste! That failed abysmally.
So Douwe Egberts became a decent replacement 4 strength.
So they get bought out last year…and guess what, the new versions under the new owners are gruesome Robusta bean based! At £8.50 a jar, they are dreaming! No more for me, watch Douwe Egberts appear in huge quantities at bargain stores now! Shame.🙄🤬

A “Special Edition” That’s Special in All the Wrong Ways

I recently purchased the Douwe Egberts Special Edition coffee, and I must say, if the intention was to create a product so profoundly disappointing that it makes customers question every life choice that led them to this purchase, then congratulations — mission accomplished.

The experience began the moment I opened the jar. Normally, you’re greeted with that warm, comforting aroma that says, “Yes, this is coffee, and yes, you made a good decision.” Instead, I was met with… nothing. Not a hint of freshness. Not even the faintest whisper of a coffee smell. It was like opening a jar of air that had given up on itself. I even checked the seal twice, just in case I’d accidentally bought a decorative prop instead of an actual consumable product.

Then came the taste test — and I genuinely wish it hadn’t. The flavour is astonishing in the worst possible way. It somehow manages to taste cheaper than the cheapest supermarket own‑brand coffee, which is quite an achievement for a “special edition.”

The aftertaste deserves its own paragraph, because it is truly something to behold. A sharp, unpleasant twang that clings to your mouth like it’s trying to punish you for drinking it. I needed another drink immediately just to get rid of the taste, and frankly, I’m still not convinced it’s gone.

If this is the direction Douwe Egberts is heading with their blends, then I wish them the best of luck, because they will be doing it without me. I’ve been a loyal customer for years, but this was the final straw — or perhaps the final stale coffee granule. I’ll be switching to Nescafé Gold Blend, because at least they still remember what coffee is supposed to taste like.

In summary: if you enjoy coffee that smells of nothing, tastes of regret, and leaves an aftertaste that haunts you, then by all means, give this “special edition” a try. As for me, I’ll be taking my custom elsewhere.

Didn't realise Lor was Douwe Egberts…

Didn't realise Lor was Douwe Egberts until I read the customer proof jar. If you can open it, using half the tools in your garage, without spilling the contents you can give yourself a pat on the back. Never use the jar again-decant into a jar from another maker. Better still, get your coffee from another maker.

Don’t buy Douwe Egberts

I recently treated myself to (or so I thought) a large jar of douwe Egbert coffee in Tesco it cost 8 pounds. It is the worst coffee I have tasted in a long time, it is weak and tasteless and only fit for the bin. I don’t know what they’ve done to it since I last bought a jar but they should be thoroughly ashamed to be selling this rubbish!

Huge expensive machines that never works, constantly require maintenance and full of unwanted features making it unmaintainable. Don't get me started on the full size touchscreen display. The previous machine has been broken more often than it has been working. The new machine is even bigger. All this for a tiny office where we end up using the 15 euros small coffee machines we had to buy as a backup, and that is working as it should. I have no doubt the next machine with have AI, voice assistance, and more useless features. I know which brand I will not chose for my home coffee machine!

Their instant cappucino is awful

Their instant cappucino is awful - 14 different ingredients listed on the packet, the first two being sugar and glucose syrup. I’ll add my own sugar if I want it, thank you very much.

LIDS !!

Can we please have the twist top lids back? The coffee is great but the new style lids are really difficult to open especially for my elderly mother who has changed brand because of this issue.

Update - From 1 star to 4 stars

I recently tried to give zero stars to this Company. However, miracles happen and, having heard nothing for about 2 weeks, they have responded positively to my complaint and have made a generous goodwill gesture.

What are they thinking with these new jars? They are far too difficult to open. I really don’t care about the shape of the jar . I buy it for the coffee. Most people would have their own pretty jars if that’s what they want.
I note the cost of the coffee has rocketed since changing the jars so I am paying more for stuff I don’t want and find very difficult to use!
Please can we just have a normal jar we can actually open without breaking nails and hurting thumbs!,,

Reading comments here I had the same problem opening the beautifully decorated glass jars.
The jars attracted me but as stated far too difficult to open especially as I have osteoporosis in my thumbs. I contacted them directly and they listened. It has been a few months and I told them I was not after compensation just that they needed to know the lid is far too tight.
Anyway they have been very courteous and I had a surprise when I have been sent £10 in vouchers.
Both my husband and myself love the coffee and the jars and I will continue to buy it and thank you for listening.
A quality company.

My partner picked up a large jar of douwe egberts coffee pure gold medium roast (3 strength) I usually buy kenco and love the flavour. when you open a kenco jar of coffee and remove the seal on top of the jar the aroma is heavenly 😄....
BUT not so when you pull the glass stopper out of the EGBERTS !! there is NO coffee aroma - kind of suspicious in my book ? and when you add your hot water to the cup it takes quite a lot of stirring to get rid of the floaty bits....
Back to KENCO for me in future 😋.

JDE coffee jar

I agree with all the comments so far it is far too difficult to open the jar. I spilled half the contents all over the worktop and floor! I have got the hang of it now but it is a palaver. I just remove the plastic collar now and the coffee seems to keep okay. They really should have sorted this out before they rolled it out to the customers.

Great coffee Dreadful jars

Great coffee, dreadful jars. I am not sure it's worth writing this as @DouweEgberts obviously don't read the reviews. You can tell a company that doesn't care about customers by the lack of response on this site.
Anyway..... the coffee is lovely. The jars, a nightmare. They are designed only for those with two hands and two thumbs. Even if you have two hands and two thumbs, you're on to a loser if you have arthritis , or dexterity problems. I did phone their customer service and mention this. The response was, basically, ' tough'. They're not for changing the design, because , and I quote, " we've had very few complaints. Most people are fine with them. Just stick your thumbs in the grokve and push up". 🤦‍♀️
In summary the coffee is great, if you can get in to it!

Terrible company to deal with

For the second time my order for coffee pods was not fulfilled from a ‘special offer’ price. They did however charge my card.
When I reported non delivery I was told they could not resupply the pods and I would be refunded within 5 days.
Meanwhile I was asked to reorder but surprise, surprise the discount offer was no longer available.
I ordered the same pods from Denmark at the same price and had them delivered free within a week.
There is something seriously wrong with the business practices of this company.

Worst design in the history of consumer packaging.

I've worked in packaging design for decades and these L'Or stopper jars are the absolute worst thing I've ever encountered. 100% impossible to open without showering the contents over the floor. The contents of the jar I bought now reside in a used Kenco jar with a proper, unpretentious and fully recyclable screw top. Read the many other online reviews here and elsewhere saying exactly the same thing. You had a job to do here and you failed. Get on the case, product designers!

The coffee is great but the customer service is appalling.
They use chat bots that are useless. Filled in a form about a query and it took them a week to get back to me to say that they were passing it to another department.
The true measure of a business is how they deal with customer service and they fail big time.
I will ask Santa for a new different machine for Christmas as I no longer want to give them my business.
