I have made more than 25 purchases…

I have made more than 25 purchases since fall of 2022. In that time, I had one purchase stolen in the mail and one purchase that broke in shipping, I was reimbursed both times with great customer service. All of the items were exactly as described and the quality was great. Metal contents were accurate, weights were accurate and descriptors accurate. I don’t understand all the complaints. I am careful to read the descriptions, I always use pictures as part of the description. I understand the costs up front. Again, always a great experience. I am bidding now.

EBTH? Um, no.

I have been buying and selling with EBTH for about 7 years. I was not happy with their listing process at all. It's a problem not being able to have a reserve price. But, despite steadily increasing and unwarranted fees/shipping prices, I did find some good deals. HOWEVER, I recently bought a fancy colored diamond that was, in effect, fake ("lab created"). EBTH, while accurately listing colorless diamonds as "lab" took the position they did not need to list colored diamonds as "lab." I incurred expensive appraisal and GIA authentication fees to learn that the diamond was fake. When I contacted Patrick, he haughtily informed me that EBTH listed those diamonds as "origin unknown" and wasn't therefore obliged to list the diamond as artificial, or refund the price of the diamond and its shipping. I returned the diamond and original appraisal anyway. I pointed out that EBTH advertises in each jewelry sale that the item has been inspected by a GIA gemologist. I doubt that. GIA is very protective of its good name and EBTH is clearly misusing it. I finally did receive a refund from EBTH "in order to avoid a dispute." However, when I submitted a claim for the appraisal, GIA certification and shipping/insurance fees I was informed by Maria, another charmer, that EBTH wouldn't consider providing payment for them (around $200), despite the fact that they retain the original appraisal I forwarded with the diamond return. I have contacted GIA and the Attorney Generals of Ohio and Washington State. We'll see how this plays out. But, make no mistake, these people are crooks.

Terrible customer support.

Terrible customer support.
I was locked out of placing a bid. Their system did not allow me to submit bid.
There is no phone number to call when bidding process goes awry.
After I lost the item , I called three times to find out why I was locked out of submitting my additional bid. EBTH never got back with any explanation or recourse so this would not happen in the future.
I was a good customer but will not bid until they fix or explain the glitch in the bidding process I encountered.

Stay away

Stay away. Absolutely terrible. Doesn't respond to questions about auction items. Outrageous shipping on small easy to pack items. If you don't pick up immediately they charge huge storage fees per the week. Communication is poor you tell them not so ship and then they ship a small light item for $50. I buy a lot from online auctions and never had an experience as bad as with this auction house. Really shady.

ITEMS BROKEN BEFORE THEY WERE SOLD--BUT BREAKS NOT DISCLOSED

I have had TWO experiences with EBTH where porcelain items were broken BEFORE I purchased them . . . and they didn't disclose the breaks on their descriptions. The first time I returned the item to them and they refunded it. The second time it happened, I got the run-around and they sent me a stupid email referring to the item being broken in the mail. When I insisted that the item was NOT broken in the mail, but was broken before they sent it, they stonewalled me!!
I was a good customer of EBTH until this, and I will never buy anything from them again. (They also sold me counterfeit jewelry that they claimed was real, but I didn't go to the trouble of proving it to them.)

FIND ANOTHER AUCTION HOUSE. Auctionninja is a great system to use if they are in your city.

FAKE FAKE FAKE

FAKE FAKE FAKE - I bought what I thought was an authentic Chanel handbag - as they advertised it was authentic. Then when they did get back to me, they told me I need to prove to them it was fake for them to even consider doing anything. WORST HORRIBLE COMPANY - steer clear!!!!!

FAKE item that said was authentic

they sent an item that was fake ... so after complaining, and then after getting authenticated for which I paid for ... I opened a customer support ticket, and never received a call back or email. I called 5x and no one returned any calls ... huge rip off where you have no customer support.

Shipping charge & fees gouging

I purchased 10 items prices ranging from 4 to $20 each. Expecting they would consolidate the shipping into one box but nope they charged me $30 for shipping plus extra fees. A $4 pendant ended up costing close to $50. I paid over $350 in shipping and fees on trinkets I wouldn't have purchased had I known this. I had called before anything shipped requesting they ship it all together to save on packaging and fees and they refused. It's not the first time I have been disappointed by ETBH but this is certainly the most expensive disappointment I've had with them. There will never ever be another disappointment. They have lost a long time loyal customer. They can choke on their shipping.

Breakables not packed well enough

I bought a selection of Asian vases and a large bowl which arrived poorly packed and broken.
The customer service was unable to refund anything nor have me send everything back.
I would not purchase anything breakable from these guys again.

Fraudulent charges and worst service ever!

I won a baseball card and needed to pick it up the week of the 16th. In the past 6 years I have been purchasing, if I did not pick up something, they would just ship it. This is the process in the terms and conditions as well as on the website FAQ's. This has always been the process. They were closed Jan 16th for MLK. I sent someone the next Monday to pick it up and they were closed again for "weather" that never came to the tristate. I did not think much of it because they would ship it. Instead they charged me a $20 fee. I emailed them to ship with no response. They charged another $20 a week later. I submitted a case with no response. They did it again a week later on Feb 8th for a total of $60. I had a total of 42 email transactions with the customer service manager Marie Buldain. She openly wanted me to beg for the refund for fraudulent charges. She said "oh well" when I pointed out the T&C as well as the website and 6 years of history. She literally said it is her sole decision to decide to charge people storage fees or ship out the baseball card. She refused to refund the fees even though there was documentation I said to ship it prior to the last two charges. I agreed to the first charge in order to compromise even though I should not have to pay it either way. She literally said I need to put in writing "this was all my fault" to her and she will refund the rest. I could not believe my eyes. As a business decision, she spent hours on end arguing over $20 charges which were charged because she "wanted to and she can if she wants to". No wonder this company is dropping. She needs therapy to get over her sadistic ego issues.

I’ve purchased about 10 things from…

I’ve purchased about 10 things from this site so far and everything has been great! Well up until now.. I purchased a LV NEVERVULL PURSE that arrived to me missing one side strap that tightens the purse. I wouldn’t have paid almost $600 for this item if it was missing a complete side strap. The original pictures on the listing didn’t show that and they were changed after the fact. I also purchased a gold necklace that had no description of damage or pictures of damage and it arrived to me completely broken! I’ve emailed them as soon as the package arrived and I opened it and they didn’t respond until 5 days later saying that they are sorry the necklace got damaged in shipping. I told them several times it was not damaged in shipping and that it had been sent to me damaged. The 3 packages the necklace was wrapped in were not ripped or torn so shipping company isn’t to blame here. They are just trying to blame it on FedEx when it wasn’t FedEx fault. They shipped a damaged item and don’t want to own up to it. See the emails they’ve sent me and I’ve sent them and notice how they keep trying to say it’s a shipping issue and ignore what I have explained. Also how would I know to keep a package to prove whatever to me when they took 5 days to respond to me? Just a way for them to get out of resolving this issue. I will blast my experience all over the internet and show people who this company is if it’s not resolved! I didn’t do anything wrong to be ignored and now have to jump through hoops to get something I paid for in full!

Never again

Delays, no updates, item not delivered and instead apparently “returned to sender” before being delivered to the wrong customer. Now left out of pocket for the import duties with nothing to show for it but several weeks time wasted.

Worst customer service I have ever…

Worst customer service I have ever experienced , do not do business with this company or do so at your own risk , if you think used car salesmen are bad they are saints compared to these individuals . Hang up on you , tell you it is your responsibility to prove them wrong not theirs to prove themselves legit , if they say you have to believe it or get yourself an attorney ! BUYER BEWARE !

Purchased item was not authenticated…

Purchased item was not authenticated before sales according to listing , when I questioned the item as being legit they sent me a authenticity card and changed the listing to reflect as much after the purchase had been finalized by 2 days , I requested a third party verify this and was informed it was now my responsibility to have this performed . I inquired who they used and was told it was handled by them not a third party . My answer to my questions were evasive and was instructed to look at other web sites selling items to verify ! If this is how they verify I informed them I did not trust this process nor the fact that they changed the listing after the fact when I asked if they were selling fake items . I have a copy of listing before and after the sell as well as a mangers email stating that it was human error that it had been omitted , if this is so why add it afterwards ? I have been hung up on by 1st advisor and the director refused to let me speak to anyone above her , I am being told they have the last say to the authenticity and their errors along the way have nothing to do with the authenticity or bad faith just mistakes they are making. I requested returning the item and they refused even though I fell they have severely mislead and misinformed me along this process. How can you verify your own product by utilizing other persons websites as justification?

I collect John Stobart maritime prints

I collect John Stobart maritime prints. Especially those that feature Louisiana scenes. My wife got an email, (meant for me), saying a Stobart item got listed. She thought it would be a good chance to buy me a birthday present so she bid on it. The bid was at $55, so she just kept bidding until she was the high bidder at $120. She told me what she had done and when I looked at it, the print was so faded out I probably wouldn’t have recognized it. As a Stobart collector it holds no value. I told her that I would contact them and see if I could get her bids retracted as there were over three days left on the auction.
I finally got a call back the next afternoon from Kevin. He said it wouldn’t be fair to the other bidders to retract her bid as it would make them pay twice as much. ? I told him you wouldn’t retract just her last bid but all her bids from $60 on and that would make them pay less. He said there were “multiple” bidders that bid against her up to $120. This was an outright lie. The guy who had the bid at $55 had placed a $110 proxy bid. His proxy bid was what she was bidding against. Her bids were like 5 seconds apart until the proxy was beat. No other bidders in the history but her and the original bidder. Bottom line is they didn’t want to retract her bid because they would possibly be losing money. He kept saying over and over it wouldn’t be fair to the other bidders and would make them pay more because she had bid. He was either stupid or was just .. stupid. If at the outset he had said we don’t retract bids for any reason ,(which I think is the case), that would have been better.
Won’t do business or recommend this site again

Exorbitant fees

They have raised their surcharges. It is now at least $23 for shipping on tiny jewelry items. It used to be eleven dollars. That is more than double. On top of that, there is still the "Everything Expedited" fee that is about 5%. This gauging makes many items cost-prohibitive.
