Fraudster, stay away!

I had a very negative experience purchasing a SolarMax telescope from Steve Asbury / EnsOptical whom I consider a fraudster. He encouraged me to complete the sale outside of eBay, which already made the process less secure. When the telescope arrived, it was in significantly worse condition than described — far beyond normal wear and tear, and clearly not good as advertised.

Instead of accepting responsibility for the inaccurate description, he attributed all issues to the courier, even though the condition was obviously pre-existing. Communication afterwards was unhelpful and dismissive, and I was left to deal with a product that required major repair work.

Buyers should be extremely cautious when dealing with this seller. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend purchasing ANY optical equipment here.

Buyer Beware!

Order placed last month and still shows as "processing" on the website. Tried emailing for update, no response. Tried calling, the call hangs up due to no response. Don't place any orders with these people, it's definitely "buyer beware".

Telescopes and accessories

I have an Istar 150mm f8 refractor telescope. I wanted to purchase some good quality preowned 2" eyepieces and accessories because buying them new would be quite expensive. I searched on line and I was directed to a company called ENS Optical Ltd, at Erdington in Birmingham. When i rang them, I spoke to the owner called Steve with whom I discussed my requirements and when Steve arrived, he was so welcoming and after having a chat, Steve took me to see what I needed. I can honestly say, ENS Optical Ltd is an Aladins cave of all things astronomical and there is great selection of items to view and purchase, from the complete novice on a budget to the seasoned observer. I came away with a smile, a 2" William Optics carbon fibre dielectric diagonal, an Altair 10x60mm right angle finder scope and 3 x 2" and 1x 1.25 high quality eyepieces that were made in Japan and of course Japan is known for manufacturing good telescopes and Optics. If anyone requires a telescope and some equipment then i recommend ENS Optical Ltd. I for one,
will be keeping them on my astronomical radar for future purchases.

Uncommunicative

First order with them, they got half of it wrong and are ignoring messages. A waste of time and money.

Avoid seller

Purchased through website directly, as it is cheaper than purchasing through eBay. Big mistake. Binoculars had fungus in one fo the glass elements, the kind that chews away coatings and etches glass. The seller said he would check the binoculars before shipping, evidently he did not. I wrote to him twice stating the issue - no reply. Avoid website.

Unprofessional Business Establishment

Steve has a overall unprofessional vulgar manner. Steve has no personal space boundaries what so ever, I visited with my wife and he made ugly comments: that I was punching, or she was above my pay grade even tried to french kiss greet her. Never take your family there. He shuts all questions of business down and tries to get personal.

Made slanderous remarks and allegations…

Made slanderous remarks and allegations against myself stating that I threatened him and his family which is completely untrue.he took it upon himself to notify members on uk Astrobuyandsell that I was a dealer which is another false statement as I’m under the kit tester category and have to pay for all my adverts and make a small profit on and is 100% above board.ive never liked Steve personally but this was well below the belt and uncalled for to the point I may report this false misinterpretation of my character and slanderous remarks.this is all because I stated he was a rip off merchant which he is charging £5450 or there abouts for an Esprit 150 Triplet Refractor which only retails for only £4750 brand new so in my books that’s a rip off merchant nothing more and nothing less.

Recommended to me by a Professor of astrology at Oxford university I was lucky to have ENS on my doorstep. new to the hobby I found Steve passionate and enthusiastic about astronomy. Steve is straight talking with an immense knowledge. I left with just enough equipment and knowledge to start my new hobby with confidence. my second visit was as rewarding, weather you want to spend big or small Steve is always there to guide you in steps that suit you.

See it works before parting with your money

Do not buy anything without seeing it working. I was assured that the unit was checked before listing but there was no way it could have been working as the connector was not properly terminated to cable. I had to spend time reworking the mount controller and motor cable to get it to work. So unless you know what you are doing beware.
