On the positives: the on board staff were friendly and helpful. We slept moderately well in clean and cosy bedding. The journey through Switzerland afforded lovely views. Sadly: our train arri... See more

Worst company… no accurate time about delays, to long delays, customer service not picking up phone

During my 19-hour trip from Milan, multiple things disappointed me. The most important being that there were no power outlets in our carriage since it was old, and the outlets nearest to us were not functioning.
Then, bathroom cleanliness. It was fine at the beginning, I was not expecting a spotless, beautiful space, but the SMELL... as the trip went on, the bathroom odor felt more and more radioactive, as if the waste particles were starting to float around you in the air. Not to mention that the line was often long.
The sleep itself was.. fine for the price, although it was EXTREMELY cold (staff later told me they knew and that it'd been an ongoing problem in that part of the train).
Breakfast was ok I guess, just a bunch of carbs with little samples of spreads thrown in. Not worth 14euros in my humble opinion.
Overall, this was a mediocre first experience, and doubt that I'll do it again (except if I upgrade classes).

We went Brussels-Milan and back. The carriages were old or rejected stock. When the toilet lid was up, it clipped the door on opening and closing. The washroom was too small to accurately spit out your toothpaste and the water slow and little in coming to clean it up.
We were a pillow short and finding the service guy was difficult. We got only one small water between two of us on the return trip.
The travel was not quiet, which is important for a 'sleeper.' it gets s 2 stars only because the duvet and bedding were good and some dumb idea we had of the 'romance' of travelling at night!

Definitely room for impovement.
We received no informatienummer about where to find tables or ladders. We had no place to sit since the earlier passengers were not informed so they immediately went to bed. The steward was not to be found. The entire train was very dirty and dusty. The ventilation was stuffy. The entire cabin smelled of sweat and parts. For the price paid I expected much more. Everything was old which is ok but that is no excuse for dirty.

Another rewarding experience travelling with the family from Aachen to Como v.v. Both trips went well, staff were friendly as always, we slept well and explored a wonderful new destination in the European Sleeper network. Pls keep adding more destinations, we love it!

I made a booking but by mistake clicked on a wrong return date. I contacted the customer service immediately and they were kind enough to refund me fully for my mistake. I really appreciate it ! Thank you

Our cabins were in a coach that was out of order and we had to share with other people.
We arrived two hours late into Milan.
We have not received a refund.

I don't recommend this company. They cancelled my train after 3h of delay and I have never been refund !

Very noisy brakes, jerky driving, screaming border police in Germany at midnight, trains both ways rescheduled hours late (and hours early) with minimal notice. Family next door with screaming kids. Other way the doors were banged constantly through the night as we had a cabin beside the wc. Not worth the extra expense to "sleep" overnight. Use day trains and book a hotel. Bedding was better quality than nightjet and the staff were friendlier. Otherwise a disaster. I left the train early in cologne (instead of brussels) to catch a day train that didn't just sit in one spot for hours.

Most frustrating customer service I have possibly ever dealt with. They didn't seem to know how to even understand the issue at hand. Like they're not trained or they don't have a good system for handling customer service tickets. I truly do not understand how they are operational. It's a shame because there's so much potential.

Wanted to try a night train as part of my month Interrail journey so Booked Brussels to Hamburg Harburg in September 2026 in Comfort class.
As the train arrived our hearts sunk, the train was an old train which looked like it was built in the 1970s and as the carriages went past all of them were dirty old and all of various colours and rusty paintwork.
Well we thought perhaps the inside would be ok as we booked the comfort class. Wrong, the carpet looked dirty and sticky like a backstreet pub of the 1980s. The beds in the cabin were fold down and old but bedding seemed clean.
After getting over the shock of this I went to use the communal toilet which was blocked and dirty.
Never again with this company.
As a side note later on our interrail holiday we were waiting to change trains in Innsbruck (Austria)to Villach(Austria) and parked across from us was an ÖBB NIGHT SLEEPER TRAIN which looked clean and modern, now that’s what a night sleeper train should be like.

In August 2026 my friend and I (aged 82 and 81) booked two Comfort Plus single cabins from Paris to Berlin, €580 each. On the day of travel, a few hours before departure, we were told the train would not leave from Paris: we had to take a bus from another station to Brussels. There we waited in the carriage for hours, in heat above 36 °C, and the train finally left at 3:43 a.m.
Neither of our private cabins was provided, because our carriage had been withdrawn. We had to share an old bunk compartment, and at 82, with vertigo, I had to climb to the upper bunk. Two toilets for the whole carriage, dirty, with a persistent smell; a meagre pre-packaged breakfast, no lunch. At first the staff even claimed we had never booked cabins, until our tickets proved otherwise.
We arrived in Berlin five hours late. Customer service took a month to reply and refunded only part of the fare.
Before booking, read the other reviews here: sadly, our experience seems to be the rule, not the exception.

I've been a fan of European Sleeper for the past few years. I have difficulty climbing due to a leg injury and even though you cannot choose your position in the bunk, staff has always been friendly to change my bunk position when I write in advance. This year, they said they could not change it in advance and have been ignoring me since, just saying " have a great trip to Amsterdam". This is honestly horrible service and the last time I will ever use this company ever again. Thank goodness there are more companies emerging and will no longer have to rely on it!

We appreciate that there is a night train destination to Brussel. But, the compartment was rather small for three persons. The toilet was also small.
The breakfast was good but served shortly before arrival to Brussel.

Reply from European Sleeper
it was a nice overall experience. wagons were rather old and not spacious. room had the maximum capacity so space was a bit limited

Reply from European Sleeper
not that comfortable — not enough for sleeping at least. Speakers announcing stations already start at 7 AM and can’t be shut, more vibration and noise throughout the night thn ÖBB trains. Beds are way too short side to side. I was exchausted after the night

Excellent overnight journey from Milan to Brussels - comfortable and just as expected
