On the positives: the on board staff were friendly and helpful. We slept moderately well in clean and cosy bedding. The journey through Switzerland afforded lovely views. Sadly: our train arri... See more

Good staff onboard the train. Reassuring. ladder for couchette is difficult and requires clear instructions. Train on time and good value.

Travelling this way is very nice. Wagons are a little old and it's a pitty there is not ( yet ) a dining car. About delays and standing still it would be appreciated if we could have more info. My return trip was already better on this subject but the first trip we had big delays and were standing still a lot and having no info is frustrating

I took the new Brussels-Milan overnight service on 8 October. The train left from Brussels one hour late (which didn’t bother me so much), but my sleeping compartment (I booked it to travel alone) was quite dirty, there was no running water for the basin, and by the time we reached Milan, the closest toilet in working order was in the third carriage from mine.
The stewards were both pleasant and helpful, but this service needs improvement; I understand the carriages may be older, but there’s no reason they can’t be cleaned.

Train cancelled while we were waiting in the station.
Appalling customer service and no information given.

Our ‘comfort plus’ carriage was not fit for purpose, no running water or working toilets, meaning a long walk to the loo. Carriage was really old and not in good condition/ and not really clean. Other classes of travel looked better

I drove from Prague to Antwerp and back in three days – on both journeys, all the toilets in our car were out of order :-(

More than 8 hours late and dirty wagon. No information. This is insane. I have no words.

My experience with European Sleeper was absolutely appalling. I travelled from Paris to Berlin yesterday, and the train was three hours late. The staff offered no meaningful assistance, but honestly, the delay was not even the worst part.
The carriage itself was disgusting. Everything was dirty and sticky, and the compartment was overcrowded, with around 15 people crammed into a space with practically no ventilation. It was so stuffy that we had to open the window during the night just to get some air, which meant dealing with a lovely draught all night as well.
And sleep? Forget about it. The lights in the carriage could not be switched off, so it was impossible to make the compartment dark enough to sleep. The seating area also took up the entire width of the carriage, meaning staff and passengers going to the toilet were constantly walking through it, right past everyone trying to rest. There was absolutely no privacy or peace. To top it all off, around half the toilets were out of order.
I am used to travelling with ÖBB Nightjet, including their cheapest seating option, and even there the seats recline enough to make sleeping possible. This was on a completely different level of misery.
What makes it even worse is that the information and reviews I had seen suggested compartments with seating for up to six people. Why are these the compartments being shown or described when the actual experience can be so different? Why aren't there clear photos of these overcrowded carriages on the website? Had I known what I was booking, I would never have bought this ticket.
There were also passengers travelling only as far as Brussels or Liège, so naturally they were eating crisps, chatting and talking on their phones, while those travelling all the way to Berlin were desperately trying to get some sleep. Putting everyone together in this kind of setup on an overnight train is ridiculous.
I paid for an overnight journey, not a night spent sitting in a dirty, overcrowded, brightly lit carriage with people constantly walking past me. Calling this a sleeper train experience is a joke.
After this experience, I would absolutely not recommend European Sleeper to anyone who actually wants to sleep during an overnight journey. The service was nowhere near what I expected based on the information available when booking, and the overall conditions were simply unacceptable

Helpful and friendly Crew. Sanitary area not great, no water and not very clean toilet.

People are sitting on our seats, we asked them to move, they would not. The controller said he could not help and we were scattered in a full train. All that in a train that was way too hot and for 70 euros. Why bother take a 12hour long train ?!

It was a nice trip but it is hard to sleep on a train. First time I tried.

I took the direct train from Milan to Brussel (aprox. 19 hours and 15 minutes, on time). I loved the vintage carriages and I've shared funny moments with some other passengers. Getting your face out the window was a big plus for me. Also not having air conditioning was very enjoyable in this season. I don't mind taking a slow ride but 20 hours was more than necessary to run this long. At every national border the train stopped for at least an hour (4 long stops in total). They were all planned stops and the train was on time. I figured they probably don't depend on European sleeper but more on traffic, border controls, change of personnel and other regulations. I would really encourage you to find a way to reduce the time of these stops as I found the breaks nerve-wracking plus they woke up or prevented me from sleeping.

no AC no water no toilet in the "delux" wagon. It was very hot and very unconfortable

I travelled solo and booked a cabin to myself. This provided me with a pretty good space and privacy at what I think was a reasonable cost. I’d never slept overnight on a train before and loved the experience. The toilet wasn’t far away and the cabin had a basin. I woke up multiple times during the night but got back to sleep again. Would have been good to have had a dining car but wasn’t available. The staff member onboard was lovely. Overall, an amazing experience, highly recommend.

I got upgraded - informed by email prior the journey. At place, however, upgrade was interpreted as a sole compartment change, excluding welcome drink and breakfast. Ok, but you should have informed me about it in forehand.

The train was two hours later in to its destination without explanation or apology. My cabin did not have any running water in the sink. The toilets stopped working at various times and were never cleaned.

We were really looking forward to our trip from Paris to Berlin on board the ES on 13 Oct 26.
On the day of travel, I received an email telling me that we’d been downgraded from our Comfort Plus booking. I was annoyed, but we still got a private room.
Two hours later, we received yet another email saying that the train was no longer leaving from Paris and that there would be coaches laid on to Mons in Belgium, where we’d pick up the train.
We were given a location to meet the coaches and told that there would be staff to help. There were lots of passengers milling around, unsure what to do, and there was no one to help. We finally figured it out between us and found our transport.
When we got to Mons and found the train, there were two people there to help. Of these two, one knew nothing, and the other, I think, was just guessing. It took maybe half an hour to find our carriage.
On board, the room was very dingy and dark, and the ‘beds’ felt dirty. By this time, the staff had disappeared, and we were left to figure things out for ourselves. The toilet and sinks were not clean.
The train itself felt like an antique. There was no soundproofing whatsoever, and the noise at times was extremely loud. I got maybe three hours’ sleep in total.
All in all, it was a very disappointing and poor experience. I won’t be using this service again; I’m disgusted.

I would give zero stars if I could. This company is one id the worst I have ever dealt with. I booked the best fare class I could months in advance, at a premium of over €100 per ticket. On the day of my trip, they downgraded me to the lowest fare class. Our train cabin was disgusting, covered in stains - and NO LADDER to get to our bunks. The water provided in our room had been opened previusly and was half empty. They refused to refund more than €25. The contact information on their own webpage is WRONG. When I finally tracked down correct info, the phone just plays a recording on a loop saying they are very busy, then telling me I was the first in the phone queue. After 15 minutes, it said nobody was available and hung up on me.
UPDATE: I contacted European Sleeper customer service by email multiple times. They politely told me to piss off. Don’t let their responses here on trust pilot or other review sites fool you. This company could not care less about your experience on their train. Moreover, they will happily take your money for the most expensive fare that they offer, then downgrade you to their lowest fare just hours before your trip when it is too late to make alternative arrangements, and keep your money. All I have asked for is a commensurate refund for the class of service I received vs what I paid for. They refuse. Do not place your trust or money with this joke of a company.
