Disgraceful Service
Disgraceful Service — A Deeply Distressing Experience From Start to Finish
My mother’s experience with Evans Halshaw Kia Hull was nothing short of disgraceful. What should have been a straightforward vehicle purchase turned into months of stress, disruption, frustration and repeated failures in customer service.
My 77-year-old disabled mother purchased a Nissan Leaf from this dealership, only for it to develop a serious charging fault within weeks. She returned the vehicle and was assured that the problem had been repaired. However, after taking the car home, it became clear that the exact same fault was still present. The vehicle had to be returned immediately, and the dealership then kept it for approximately seven weeks.
During this entire period, my mother was left without her car and was refused a courtesy vehicle, despite her age, disability and reliance on transport for everyday life and medical appointments. The consequences were significant: she was forced to cancel appointments and became dependent on family members for basic transport. The complete lack of compassion, understanding or practical support shown to a vulnerable customer was deeply upsetting and unacceptable.
The fault with the car was bad enough, but the way my mother was treated throughout the process was far worse. Communication was consistently appalling. She was repeatedly forced to chase the dealership for even the most basic information. Calls regularly went unanswered, some were disconnected, and promised callbacks repeatedly failed to happen. She was left in the dark for weeks and made to do the work that the dealership should have been doing as a basic part of its customer service.
We later discovered that the dealership had failed to take the vehicle to Nissan for its booked diagnostic appointment. This avoidable failure caused further unnecessary delay and prolonged the period during which my mother was left without transport. There appeared to be a serious lack of organisation, communication and accountability.
Once Nissan eventually identified the charging unit as the cause of the fault, my mother was told that the repair might not be covered. She was then asked whether she wanted to look at another car instead. After weeks without her vehicle, repeated failures in communication and the dealership’s own delays, this response was completely unacceptable. Rather than taking responsibility and providing a clear solution, the situation appeared to be pushed back onto the customer.
Even obtaining a refund became another exhausting and unnecessarily prolonged ordeal. My mother was repeatedly asked for her bank details despite having already provided them. Once again, she encountered unanswered calls, poor communication and a complete lack of urgency. After everything she had already experienced, this was yet another unacceptable failure.
After months of disruption, stress and frustration, my mother has finally received her refund. However, receiving her money back does not undo the distress, inconvenience and loss of independence caused by the way this situation was handled.
Vehicles can develop faults. What separates a responsible dealership from a poor one is how it responds when those faults arise. In this case, the response was consistently inadequate. My mother was left without transport for weeks, forced to cancel medical appointments, repeatedly ignored, made to chase for updates and given little confidence that anyone was taking responsibility for resolving the situation.
The entire experience demonstrated what we believe to be a serious failure in customer care, communication, organisation and accountability. The treatment of a 77-year-old disabled customer throughout this ordeal was deeply disappointing and, in our view, completely unacceptable.
Based on this experience, we would strongly advise anyone considering purchasing a vehicle from Evans Halshaw Kia Hull to think very carefully before doing so. We would not recommend this dealership to anyone and would never choose to deal with it again.

Shocking Customer Service
Shocking Customer Service
My mum purchased a Nissan Leaf from Evans Halshaw Kia Hull. Within weeks it developed a charging fault and had to be returned. She was told it had been repaired, but when we got it home the fault was still there, so it went straight back. The dealership then kept the car for around seven weeks.
As a 77-year-old disabled customer, she was left without a vehicle and was refused a courtesy car. She had to cancel medical appointments and became reliant on family to get anywhere.
What made this experience so unacceptable wasn’t the fault itself, but the complete lack of communication. She constantly had to chase for updates, calls regularly went unanswered or disconnected, and my formal complaint to head office received no meaningful response.
To make matters worse, we later discovered the dealership had forgotten to take the car to Nissan for its booked diagnostic appointment. After Nissan identified the charging unit as the fault, she was told the repair might not be covered and was asked if she wanted to look at other cars instead. Yet promised callbacks never came.
Even arranging a refund became another frustrating process, with repeated requests for her bank details and more unanswered calls. After months of unnecessary stress, she has have finally received her money back.
Cars can develop faults, but it’s how a company deals with them that matters. Sadly, the customer service, communication and organisation throughout this experience were extremely poor. We cannot recommend Evans Halshaw Kia Hull based on how she was treated.

Disappointed 😞 had a Service Plan on a car which ended up being wrote off in an accident ,Evans Halmshaw where refunded the service plan from Emac ,but I had to pay for the service on my replacement vehicle,as they claimed it was not transferable from one vehicle to another but they still received a refund........Any decent company would pass on this refund to a loyal customer of over 8 years not profit from unfortunate circumstances.

Not impressed
Took 3 hours for something they said would be done in an hour. No good on a sit and wait appointment. Recall work complete, then felt pushed to have additional work done totalling over £1100. Needing the work wasn't an issue, I am glad they pointed it out. When I mentioned it had takes 2 extra hours to complete the recall I was offered 15% discount. Cost aside I wasn't confident when the work would be completed so refused. Same work at a local garage £550 done that day.
