Colluding with unscrupulous hotels to scam users
When it comes to booking hotels, this platform is the absolute worst—period. My first experience using it was a total nightmare. It feels like they are actively collaborating with unscrupulous hotels to deceive users.
I pre-paid in full for an apartment hotel in Buenos Aires through their site. Upon arrival, the hotel forcibly demanded my credit card details, including the CVC/CVV code, as a 'security deposit.' This is nothing short of highway robbery. When I refused to provide such sensitive information, they denied me check-in. I tried contacting Expedia support, but their customer service was completely useless—just a bunch of figureheads.
I’ll spare you the long-winded details of the struggle, but the final straw was when I tried to share my honest experience via a user review on Expedia to warn others. The platform actually blocked me from posting my negative review.
This proves they are complicit with the hotels, using fake or filtered positive reviews to lure in users. This was my first time using this service, and it will definitely be my last.
Will NEVER use them again
Will NEVER use them again. Less expensive will cost you. Pay more or changes not covered; my credit card way overchaged; refunds slow or non-existent (especially Days Inn). One customer service rep was helpful, another was just plain rude and would not allow refund for cancellation.
If I could give zero Stars I would
NOT A HAPPY CUSTOMER
If I could give zero Stars I would. Very deceitful online information. My parents and I booked a trip to go see her grandkids and great-grandkids. My mother and I booked together so that we could have two sets of eyes to make sure that we booked what we want when we wanted it. The booking ended up not being for what we selected as far as dates go. They wanted to extort an additional $700 out of us to change our booking. The third party travel insurance I'm pretty sure is in cahoots with Expedia. I highly recommend you find the hotel flight car rental whatever it is you're looking for and book directly through the company that will be providing said services. My parents and I plan to report Expedia and their third party Insurance to the FCC for misleading business practices.

Do not use Expedia - call the hotel directly
We have used Expedia for years - never knowing how much they are overcharging for the hotel. I just checked out from Drury after 7 days to find out that Expedia charged over $900 and Drury directly would have been $630 for the 7 nights. From now on - I will contact the hotel directly.
I purchased travel insurance through Expedia - Travel Guatd
I purchased travel insurance through Expedia believing it would provide meaningful protection if unexpected travel issues arose. Unfortunately, after being unable to lawfully travel due to passport-related complications outside of my control, my claim was denied based on policy exclusions related to passport/documentation issues.
While the policy language may technically support the denial, the experience highlighted how limited the actual coverage can be in real-world situations that many consumers would reasonably assume are covered. I made every effort to resolve the matter responsibly and contacted Expedia immediately, but ultimately received only a small partial goodwill credit on a trip costing several thousand dollars.
My advice to other travelers is to read every exclusion very carefully and not assume that “travel insurance” covers unexpected travel disruptions simply because the situation was beyond your control.
Sometimes non-refundable tickets can be refunded.
Expedia has been outstanding in helping me to reschedule a flight from the United States to the Philippines. Due to a mechanical issue with my Jeep I was unable to make my original flight. Not only did the Expedia agent help me to reschedule to a new flight, he also provided a link to request a refund for my missed flight.
Wast of time and effort
Booking a £6k holiday, went through the whole booking process, got to the payment bit, get an error saying 'couldn't complete booking'. Call them and am told there wasn't availability, despite going through their whole booking process. End result, hour wasted, no holiday booked, and £6k unavailable in my account for 2 days as it was 'being held' as part of the booking process. What is the point of advertising something not available, letting a customer go through the complete booking process, and then noting there's no availability? Useless.
Easirent is shady and crooked
My issue isn't with Expedia itself but some of the companies they support thru their site. Easirent is as shady as they come. Hidden fees and extra steps of difficulty to pressure you into caving in and paying them more unnecessary fees. They hit me with a $30/day fee because i was driving the rental car out of state. Vegas to Utah, 2 hours away. They graciously discounted it to $15/day...what a scam! Secondly there was a $250 deposit/hold for windshield/tires?!! and this came after i had to contact on the phone my insurance agent to confirm i had full coverage on comprehensive and collision (the insurance card I carry in case of an accident wasn't good enough) that's the entire car! I took 20 pictures in front of their check in service member of every tire, window, body, interior and bumpers to let them know there wasn't going to be any mysterious findings after i left. I told the guy behind me to do the same thing. There is zero customer service contact on their website, no way to get ahold of them at anytime. Avoid the hassle and pay a little more with an upright rental car companies like Enterprise, Avis, Hertz basically anybody else. Easirent is just looking to rip you off if you're not on your game!!! Lessened learned
Double booking on their website no…
Double booking on their website no responsibility they claim traveler notice return flight drop from booking called to inquire they flight appear 4 days later now I have been double book and charges for both flights bright Expedia or Lufthansa corrected their double booking travels stuck paying for a round trip and a one way all on the same flight and date. No help no fixing no refund. Stay away from these scammer never use these two! My the way they book both flight on the same reservations
Incorrect name spelling on flight ticket
We booked flights and hotels via Expedia with flights on Easyjet. My ticket has and still has, my name spelt incorectly. Expedia say it's Easyjet's fault, Easyjet say it's Expedia. After a few days, on and off trying to sort the issue with Chat I finally got hold of a person. She understood the problem then sent an email with the misspelt name! So nothing gained from that long phone call. 'Chat' takes you around the houses then just gives you set responses non of which are appropriate to the complaint/question. I cannot make changes because in that area my name is spelt correctly so I can't make a change. BUT the name on my flight pass is wrong! Nowhere to go with this. Rubbish customer service and never again will I book through Expedia who are a third party apparently and can't do much to rectify their mistakes. If this causes a problem to my flight and holiday this week I will be looking for compensation
In past no complaints
In past no complaints. This time had booked breakfast and seems to have been lost. Asked Expedia to confirm as 100% sure what I booked but being told no. This is a business booking so not costing me. Online help no good. Very disappointed.
Expedia could not confirm what I had booked. Asked me to check.
Went back online with Expedia again. Again asked if I had taken a screen shot of what I had booked. So if you booked with Expedia make sure that you take screenshot of what you think you are booking.
Very disappointed with Expedia. Expected better.
Expedia not helping to request for refund from cancelled flight
My flight is canceled by the airline, Expedia is not helping to get the refund back to me. Called 5 times to the service centre they said need to asked the airline but the airline said need to ask Expedia to request for the refund. 😡🥵😡🥵
Okay….where do I start with these…
Okay….where do I start with these absolute demon monsters? I called to make a reservation using the hotel phone # or so I thought. However, I got to the Expedia idiots and they told me they were with the hotel!! The rate they gave me over the phone was supposed to be for 2 nights….when I got to the hotel, that was the rate for 1 night!! I called Expedia and they tried to tell me that they were charging me 40% of the hotel fee for taxes and other expendable fees…..where on this Earth is $79.08 40% of $145.39? That’s 50+%. I want to know where they went to school so I can make sure nobody suffers at the hands of those so called teachers while they try to learn Math! Good grief! Make sure you are calling the hotel and booking directly or just go to the hotel and book it there or you are just out of luck because you can’t get a full refund! The best they could do for my traumatic experience with them was give me a 20% discount after charging me 50+% just for booking the room!! This is moronic! This has been a very stressful experience with them, and they are using tricky tactics to cause you to have to go through them! Make sure when you call to make a reservation, ask to speak to the front desk or the manager of the hotel! Expedia actually used a local number to this hotel!!
Never again
Used Expedia to book flights with KLM. KLM would not accept scans of our passports. Turns out that Expedia entered our names in the wrong order. Passport has names; forname; middle name; surname. Expedia edntered; surname, forename; middle name. I spent hours on the phone/computer. Spoke after challenging robot with about seven Expedia agents, all of whom assured me that they could solve the problem. None did and never heard from any of the again. We were left going to the airports without knowing if we would be allowed to travel
24-Hour Cancellation” Shouldn’t Mean 12 Days Without Your Money
Expedia advertises a 24-hour cancellation window for flights, but what they don’t clearly communicate is how long they may hold your money afterward.
I canceled a flight within the permitted cancellation period and am now going on 12 business days waiting for Expedia to release my funds. Every time I contact customer service, I’m told “it’s the bank.” Meanwhile, my bank has confirmed multiple times that they do not see any reversal, authorization release, or pending refund from Expedia whatsoever. To make matters worse, other refunds on the same account processed within 1 to 2 days without issue.
Expedia’s own terms state that when eligible cancellations are made, they will “automatically issue your refund to your original payment method” and that it “may take up to 7 working days” to appear. Yet here I am well beyond that timeframe with no funds released and no meaningful accountability.
What’s especially frustrating is the endless loop between Expedia and the bank, where Expedia blames the financial institution despite there being no evidence the refund was ever transmitted or the authorization properly released in the first place.
Holding thousands of dollars of a customer’s money for nearly two weeks after a timely cancellation is unacceptable. If you book through Expedia, understand that “24-hour cancellation” does not necessarily mean “timely access to your money again.”
I’ll be booking directly with airlines going forward.
Scam accommodation
Pottinger's Quay, Belfast booked via Expedia/Vrbo in January for 8 people to stay for the Easter weekend (Good Friday - Easter Monday) was identified as a SCAM.
Despite regular communication with Expedia /Vrbo this is still available to book on the Expedia app - please beware as I had even phoned in February to check the apartment was genuine as they had asked for a damage deposit via an unvoice outside of the app. Expedia/Vrbo do not undertake due diligence on their advertised properties. They claim they are trying to remove it, 5.5 weeks after identifying the scam.
Refunds - Online Chat Support
After many phone calls and chats with support, I was able to get my $300 refund.
If anyone is experiencing issues with refunds, DO NOT TRY PHONE SUPPORT, they are not helpful and is a waste of time, plus they hang up on people when they don’t know what to do.
I’d suggest to try chat support and request to be connected with a supervisor, they seem to be more helpful as everything is written. KUDOs to Marvin for helping with the refund process.
Good luck!
Joke of a company
First assistant couldn’t understand me & I couldn’t understand her, the connection was atrocious, waited over 35 mins while she went away to “ check” if flights could be changed. Eventtgave up & hung up. 2 nd assistant when I called back was the same. I ended up putting the phone down, 3rd assistant was jbetter but again after 20 mins of waiting I had had enough & ended the call. It was like the staff had no training, didn’t know what they were doing, the background noise was astonishing & how anyone can hear or understand anyone on the phone is amazing . The last assistant called me back, let the call ring once then hung up! I asked for information by email & as yet 12 hrs later have revised nothing. I wish I had never booked with Expedia as it had been atrocious to get anywhere.the worst “customer service” I have ever experienced in 62 year. I shall be leaveing an appropriate review on as many review sites as I can. Disgraceful all round
Scammers
Scammers, they scammed me out 508$.
The story when I booked a car through them and the rental company cancelled my reservation and they still took the money.
