I've waited for a year after buying the car to give this review. Rob's attention to detail could not be faulted. The car is just what I wanted and after a few reasonable wear and tear repairs will fly through the MOT. I cannot recommend his professional services enough.

Amazing service from Rob from start to finish!

I wouldn’t normally buy a pre owned vehicle without seeing it first in person but this car had everything I wanted.
Rob at Fairfax was very helpful giving me all the pros and cons and after reaching an agreement everything went super smoothly. There was an issue no one could have anticipated (there always is with Defenders) but Rob was so quick in sorting it out. This was after the sale and I doubt other dealers would have been this good.

I can’t recommend him enough and I will most definitely ask for his help for any future purchases.

Bought my Toyota Rav from Rob at Fairfax and would just like to comment on how easy the whole transaction was from start to finish. The car was, exactly as described, and what I personally loved was how laid back and pressure free the buying experience was.

I found a VW Touran on autotrader from Fairfax for £3000 it had 112000 miles on the clock
I trusted the fact that it seemed like a serious business that was being run professionally. I was wrong. On the phone I was assured by ... the owner, that the car was in very good condition and like all cars for sale by him the mileage was checked. (all cars sold by him are HPI checked as indicated on fairfax website)It was a sold as seen with no warranty.
I clearly stated that it was for personal use and that I am a bit of a novice at car buying.
I got the car delivered to Manchester on a lorry. Upon delivery there were a number of issues with the car
1. Crack in windscreen !!! (could be from transport)
2. Engine was making loud clanging noises
3. Passenger side door would open from inside only
4. Dashboard brake pad and esp light on
5. Power steering defective
6. Passenger door only opens from the inside !!!
7. Air-con beyond repair (coolant was not the issue)
8. Cruise control defective
9. Windscreen and rear window washer pump defective (even with enough washer fluid)
10. Seatbelts clasps are falling apart ( pose a safety hazard)
11.No 6 CD changer as advertised
12. Smashed rear / passenger air-vents and console
13. Numberplate lights not working
14. Seats very VERY soiled - like filthy
15. Front bumper is dislocated (seems to be from a crash)
16. On board computer is faulty (Just to mention one fault; apparently when driving around town I am getting 98 mpg!!)
...among other issues

The owner was very rough with me when i called. He said it was sold as seen. And threatened me with his lawyer. (This was after i had tried calling him from my number a few times and he didn't pick up. When calling from other numbers he was on the phone in seconds)

I took the car to a local registered mechanic. He confirmed the above issues and that the steering rack was about to go - but that he said is not major enough to warrant backtracking on the sale - although it would have been expected to be notified in advance
He also found a steady oil leak He was moved to investigate the irregular banging noise emanating from the engine - this involved spending further time effort and money
He concluded that it was a dud a should surely be returned

I wrote to checkatrade who Fairfax is a member of
I wrote a number of emails to Fairfax
I called numerous times to try and return the car

Finally when there were no results i attempted to sell the car at a reduced price. Someone pointed out to me that on the cars MOT history it was clearly obvious that the car had been clocked
On an MOT test from 5 years earlier the touran had 122000 miles on the clock (now it was showing 112000)!!!!!
It had been driven at least 50 - 60 thousand miles since then!!!!

I have received no redress from fairfax and i am hoping to through this review to make sure other people know what to be aware of

I have read The response below
1. It was sold as seen - but that still does not mean you can lie on the phone, taking advantage of the fact that I will not be viewing the car personally because I live in Manchester
2. Even if it was sold as seen, once it became clear the car mileage had been altered, you would be obligated by law to take it back
3. Finally you told me on the phone that the trade in had been to you directly. Either you were being dishonest then or you are being so now.
