⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The perfect family escape — thanks to Kevin and Jo

We absolutely loved our stay at Upper Shadymoor Farm — 4 nights and 5 days of pure relaxation and reconnection with nature. From the moment we arrived, Kevin and Jo were exceptional hosts, welcoming us and making the whole experience feel personal and authentic. In the spirit of the Feather Down website, it truly was a chance to slow down and enjoy life at a gentler pace — worth every penny.

Their warmth and enthusiasm set the tone. Lighting the wood oven became a family ritual, and while there was enough “basic living” to make us appreciate modern comforts, the tent was comfortable, spacious, and had proper running water and flushing toilets. Pizza night, organised by Kevin and Jo, was such a treat (tip: bring your own toppings — we went with mozzarella, asparagus, mushrooms, red onions, tomato sauce and a fresh side salad).

One particularly thoughtful gesture stood out: Rueben had jokingly been told that every tent at Upper Shadymoor Farm is designated an animal to look after. First thing in the morning, Kevin kindly surprised him by bringing a real rooster for Rueben to care for. He spent the whole morning feeding and watering it, and sharing it with the other guests — although his sister Katelya did take over a bit too much! Rueben simply couldn’t stop beaming — it was such a thoughtful and memorable gesture.

I’ll admit I was reluctant when my wife booked this, but I’m so glad she stuck to her guns. Kevin and Jo have created something far more enriching than a flight abroad and a hotel resort — here, you gain real memories and cultural capital. Our children, Rueben and Katelya (both primary school age), absolutely loved it and have already insisted we come back next year.

The lake was a total highlight: kayaking, paddle boards, a floating slide, and even an outdoor hot tub. We were blessed with glorious weather which made everything even better. The farm tour with Kevin was another standout — his knowledge, passion, and authenticity shone through, and finishing with tea on Kevin and Jo’s patio felt like something truly special.

Thank you, Kevin and Jo, for being such perfect hosts. We will most definitely be back next year!

Reply from Feather Down Farms

Thank you so much for this wonderful review. You’ve captured exactly what a stay at a Feather Down farm is all about, and honestly, we couldn’t have put it better ourselves.

We’re so happy to hear how much your family enjoyed reconnecting with nature, slowing down, and making memories together. That balance of simple living, comfort, and little moments of magic (like Rueben and his rooster!) is what we always hope guests take away - and it’s lovely to hear how much it meant to you.

Kevan and Joy will be chuffed to read this as they put their heart into every stay.

Looking forward to welcoming you all back next year — Rueben and Katelya sound like they’re already packed!

Warm wishes,
Colleen & the Feather Down team

Magical. We would go back tomorrow.

We recently stayed at Warren Farm and we had the most wonderful time. It was our first time staying in the canvas cottages and it was honestly the best experience. The kids LOVED it. Warren Farm is really beautiful and it has gorgeous views from the camp site across the valley and to the sea. The tents are spaced out to give privacy and a feeling of exclusivity but they are close enough together for a group booking.

The campsite was so well equipped - from the gorgeous onsite honesty shop complete with home bakes, fresh milk and treats galore, to the freezer spaces and wellies to use. A big play area outside, field and board games available to borrow and the inside games room provided so much entertainment for the kids. There were animals to interact with and a farm tour to go on which was so interesting. Oh and the pizza oven night....genius. We honestly could have stayed for a week.

The tents themselves were so cosy and comfortable. We are campers so this felt like luxury camping - all we had to take was our clothes and some food and wine! (Although if you forget something, the shop has it!) The kids adored the cubby hole bed. It was magical.

We just loved the safety and the space to be outside and free. The kids were so happy, whether playing on old tractors or eating marshmallows by the fire. It's every kids dream.

And your hosts - Kate and James were absolutely lovely. They were always around to help, chat and tell you everything about the farm.

Featherdown feels like an escape from the speed of life. It feels pure, uncomplicated and uninterrupted. It encouraged us to go back to the essence of life and we felt like we needed to. It's simple, comfortable and it doesn't break the bank!

We had the best time. It wasn't long enough and we would go back tomorrow.

The wonderful Moor Farm

We had the pleasure of a weekend at the wonderful Moor Farm on the outskirts of Gloucester. Our stay was in a beautifully designed bell tent complete with bunks/cabin bed for the girls to pick from… The set-up was rustic and in keeping with the farm experience. Our children were given free rein of the woods and spent hours just exploring with the other children staying onsite. Richard the farmer was on hand to cater for all needs and we were given a golf buggy lift back from the farmhouse after pizza night to save little legs… Our weekend included an in-depth farm tour complete with beaters wagon transport. Cappuccino the bull was certainly a talking point, and the regenerative aspects of the farm were put across in lay-man’s terms for us all to garner knowledge to take away. Richards cider proved a hit as all the families got together in a large barn to shelter from the great British summer weather…. Everyone got to create their own pizzas before they were fired up in the oven. An honesty shop was onsite for all essentials and on our final day we got to enjoy a dip in the solar panel heated pool. A fabulous weekend was had by all and we’d look forward to a return visit… great unique concept!!

It gets really chilly by night even in summer, tents poorly insulated

The problem with Feather Down farms is that it gets too chilly over night even in summer as the tents have very poor insulation, various gaps and openings so when the wood burner dies out during the night you will start feeling the chill.
I liked the farm experience but, next time, I would do it in a proper house, rather than in a Feather Down tent.
Definitively over priced for what you get.
The other negative is that the toilet has no sink so you have to use the kitchen sink for toilet duties.

Holiday cancelled by provider and money not refunded

I booked a holiday to Featherdown farm Seahouses in September 2021 for a week in August 2022. I was phoned by Featherdown in June 2022 to say that they had to cancel my holiday as the site was storm damaged . I requested a full refund the following day by email and am still waiting for them to pay any of my money back more than a month later. They are not members of ABTA, beware.

Honest, professional and knowledgeable

From start to finish Ian was courteous, professional and had such a clam and reassuring manner about him. Nothing was too much trouble and I cannot thank him enough for talking me through all of my options in a way that I could fully understand.

Great, good old fashioned customer care

Called to book another holiday, and the girl I spoke to remembered my name, where I have stayed before, and which accommodation I preferred! Warren Farm, Somerset great. Had a few issues with their website, and she took note of everything I said, apologising for the issues, and promised she would report them to the right person.

Book Featherdown Farm Holidays - you will love them!
