Cancelled my subscription, but they kept taking payments
I cancelled my Findmypast subscription through their website. I didn’t receive a confirmation email, but I didn’t think much of it at the time - if a website tells you that you’ve cancelled a subscription, you should be able to trust that it has actually been cancelled.
I originally used a card that I don’t use very often when signing up for the free trial, so unfortunately it took me a while to notice that Findmypast had continued taking payments from that card every month.
When I contacted customer service and explained what had happened, I was simply told, “you did not cancel.” I found this incredibly rude and dismissive. I know that I went through the cancellation process, and rather than considering that there may have been an issue with their website or cancellation system, the immediate response was essentially to blame me.
They have only offered to refund ONE payment because the others apparently fall outside their cooling-off period. But that completely misses the point. I’m not asking for a refund because I changed my mind about a subscription - I’m disputing payments that continued after I had already cancelled it.
If your cancellation system fails to correctly process or record a customer’s cancellation, that should not become the customer’s financial responsibility.
Really disappointing experience. Instead of blaming customers and hiding behind a cooling-off period, Findmypast should investigate why a cancellation made through their own website apparently wasn’t recorded and refund the payments taken after it.

It is great to finally find a program that has a large amount of verified sources for England and Scotland as most of my ancestors are from these countries. These resources have allowed me to grow my family tree with confidence.

Over 3 years you have taken money out of my account, I have no subscription and even cancelled my account because you kept taking money out if my account, I have frozen my cards, reported it to the fraud team and still you manage to take money out of my account, I am financially on my arse and I am working long hours and still have put time aside to deal with you fraudsters...do not join FINDMYPAST you will never be able to leave

I have tried to use my subscription to FindMyPast with Family Historian and it seems impossible to do so. I am continuoausly asked to pay but have already done so. The help I was offered did not work.

Excellent, accurate search engine - plus newspapers!
Find My Past has an excellent search engine, with accurate results which are clearly laid out. I just wish they'd had a facility to build a tree earlier - now that I have a huge tree on Ancestry it would be a lot of work to move it to Find my Past. But I use both and I wouldn't be without FMP.
