Flickr holds you to ransom.

Wow! No I mean WOW! Yeah, I've known this was coming for a few months but I still find it an absolutely gobsmackingly terrible decision. So, some time ago you decided to offer 1TB of free space to upload our pictures to your wonderful site. Millions took you up on this amazing offer, I took you up on this amazing offer, migrating from a paid for sharing and back up service. I have 28,988 photos in my account. I don't consider myself a happy snapper, so I'm sure there are people out there with many thousands more. Today I got your email, an email that says if I now don't upgrade to your new pro scheme and pay, my treasured memories will be deleted. Lost, gone! How many people will find time to re-download their images back to their computers? You are now holding peoiple to ransom and it's just not right. Your argument will be that "We gave you notice". With almost 30,000 photos in my account I need more notice than a couple of months, as I only knew about this in November 2018. For me this is the final nail in the coffin. I will not be upgrading and will move to the now superior Google Photos. I believe you have been enstrusted with people's important life events and memories and to behave in this fashion is down right immoral. I've been to my Flickr account today and requested my download data again. I did do this before but you have now removed the links to the zip files, which is an odd thing to do when you are making people pay or move. So I now need to do this again and I'm hoping in the meantime, while I wait for the links, you don't delete my precious data.

Flickr Ruined My Blog

Flickr, how do I loathe thee? Let me count the ways.
I used Flickr to link to photos in my blog. BAD IDEA. First, they didn't have the basic tools like making a collage that Google Photos had but they offered 1 tb free, so we hopped on board. We also didn't like the way the photos linked in the blog. But, we thought, OK, we'll use it for now, and maybe change it when we finish traveling.
A couple of months later, Flickr "announces" the 1000 images policy. Very quietly. I almost missed it. So now, we have to go through our blog and figure out which to delete and which to keep. We are traveling in a developing country, and don't have access to the internet on a regular basis. We are on an island. So we rush and do the best we can, we had so much there from our travels. Yes, we stupidly didn't have a backup, but were planning to do that when we got back in around 9 months.
Well, we accidentally deleted many of the photos from the blog. It was difficult to keep track, and in our flurry to try to save some, we lost many. We should have backed up. We could have paid Flickr their extortion money. But we didn't. We thought we could trust them while travelling. This is not technically Flickr's fault, but the short window in which we had to work and being on an island made it suck.
Flickr made it really hard to tell which photos were linked to the blog and which weren't. The public or private didn't work for us because all of our photos are public.
So my biggest beef with the company is that they told us we had 1 tb, then renegged, but didn't give us adequate time, and we almost missed the notice it was so, let's say, discrete. We could keep our stuff if we paid them, which we couldn't do on principle. We already didn't like them.
So, Flickr, I really despise you. My blog is ruined and it is to a large degree because I used your "service". I think Flickr will fail, but hopefully a more trustworthy and honest company will fill the niche.
I don't know how anyone can use this service with confidence after this type of a move. It's a terrible way to treat your customers.

How not to treat your customers

I had a Pro account before all the changes but they are now taking it away if I don't pay them money and will start deleting my photos. Just not a reputable company any more. I am storing my photos for free elsewhere now. Will not be using Flickr anymore and suggest any serious photographer doesn't either.

Find another image-service!

Flickr have spent the last couple of years on becoming an absolutely fine image service. Suddenly - Autumn 2018 - they changed their conditions and start deleting you images if you don't pay an annual fee.
The problem is, that they make it REALLY difficult and time consuming to download the images. ...and the deletion date just gets closer and closer :-( Never open an account with them.
Best advice: Find another service!

If I could give them zero stars

If I could give them zero stars, I would. This new year, new Flickr disgusts me. I have enjoyed working beside and admiring professional art. I have edited and collected new clients and used Flickr to show my own work. Now they threaten to delete it all?
You cannot take away 1T free and hand us 1000 picture max. That's ridiculous.
Heartbroken. Nothing was better than Flickr.

I don't like to be extorted

I don't mind paying for service. I do mind being extored into paying for services where a formerly free service suddenly threatens to hide and even delete your photo's of you don't pay up.

All of this without giving proper notification (a single vague email in november) or a proper, fair timeframe for migrating away.

I understand the current setup is not sustainable. That still doesn't give you the right to break your earlier promisses and treat users this way.

Needless to say I've copied my data away and I'm really curious to see if they will delete my assets without any further notification.

Most Intrusive Application Out There

Reckon Yahoo and Flickr breach every GDPR regulation out there.

Wanted a replacement for Photobucket which I use occasionally. Someone suggested Flickr. I went to the sign up page and initially put off that it expected me to create a Yahoo account. Wasn’t interested so was about to leave but discovered I already have a Yahoo account from long ago so sign up using that. Hit a load of privacy questions and it is clear that Yahoo/Flickr are totally disregarding GDPR but opting you in by default and then making extremely difficult to opt out.

I then find that dispite already having a Yahoo account and signing up with that, it created a new one without notifying me or asking my permission.

Decide that I don’t want anything to do with this immoral company and find that I can’t even sign out. I did eventually, the option is so hidden it has clearly been designed to prevent users from finding it.

Truely immoral and unethical comapny that has no regards for national laws and regulations. Do not trust your data with these guys, they have made it quite clear that they have no interest in your privacy.

I have now been blocked from my Flickr account 3 times…

I have now been blocked from my Flickr account for a third time.
No reason given and no response to emails.I have lost all my pics and can't delete the account either.
It's good when it works and i have made a lot of friends with same interests but i have now lost contact with them also.
Don't upload anything here that you can't afford to lose.

Flickr is a RIP off!!!!

First Flickr offered 1tb for free now they reverse it and say your limited to 1000 pics! What a RIP off! They should at least let you have the free 1tb that they offered for free then you pay after that but nope! I am only have 11% of 1tb and now they are asking to pay like $65a year!! Total RIP off off!! Flickr sucks!!!!

What a crock of crap, they have destroyed 26,000 photos of mine and won't tell me why. I got an email to say the pro account was closed and that was it. 26,000 photos down the drain, gone forever.

Flickr can go and shove itself up it's own backside.

Smugmug has destroyed any trust of cloud storage and they don't care

Smugmug and Flickr have destroyed any sense of credibility of cloud storage online. Smugmug, after buying Flickr, changed their terms of service to "PAY-US or GET-OFF." Offering to keep 1000 pictures doesn't help. So this user is leaving. There is no way this user is going to work with a company that exhibits that kind of attitude, nor will we succumb to that kind of extortion. And their CEO is absolutely SMUG about it -- even insinuating that those who accepted and used Yahoo's 1Tb offering were somehow taking advantage of them. They knew about users like us when they purchased the company. It is sad to see so many great pictures simply disappear from the internet and when we contacted them about it, in their response, they simply didn't care. SMUG. There is no way that we will ever support their greedy, new terms of service, and even if we did, there is no guarantee that they won't raise their prices in the future. -- Goodbye and good riddance.

i had been on flickr from 2009 when…

i had been on flickr from 2009 when they were nothing taken over rules change from 1 tb of free storage till pay or your photos are deleted so i guess im trying to download 3106 photos whch will take about a month with a weeks limit on the link pure s**t !!! would not reccomend any wonder such a low score
would never tell anyone ever again about flickr pure s**t of a service so disappionted is an understatement

Goodbye Flickr

The recent Flickr policy change shows the dangers of depending on online storage of your photos. Once a company has you over a barrel, they can then threaten to delete all your photos if you don't pay up. I have been with Flickr for 11 years, but this is the end. I didn't mind paying a modest annual charge before they made it free. Now they have slapped on a large annual fee and threatened deletion. Luckily most of my most recent photos I still have, but some of the older ones I am downloading before quitting Flickr. I already pay for Adobe Lightroom, which allows storage online, home storage, and full editing facilities, and no way am I going to pay Flickr just to display photos online.

Deleting photos and also your users

Deletes all your photos except for 1000.
Doesn't give you an alternative unless you pay for the premium account (Pro). Also doubles the price for the Pro Accounts, so it doesn't even respect people who were already paying.
Also doesn't let you download all your photos at once. I had to request all my personal data to download it all at the same time or else I would have to download every 500 photos, I have been waiting for days and still haven't received any of my photos.

why would ANYONE give in the extortion and pay for Flickr now..?

They lured you to their site with the offer of a free terabyte of photo backup, and then abruptly announce that they will delete all of your photos unless you switch to a paid account (and it is a PAIN IN THE HEINEY to rescue your pictures from their site).

Why would ANYONE give in to this extortion and pay? Should we trust them THIS time.

Hell to the no.

If you are going to a pay site... pay one that doesn't mess around with the dishonest bait-and-switch. or.. try shoebox, Google backup, or smugmug, which remain free.

screw Flickr.... with a rusty screw.

Dreadful new management

To date - 1TB of photo storage and sharing free
New management reduce this to 1000 photos and "any over this number will be deleted."!
There are plenty of free photo storage options e.g. Google
You are killing your business.
Currently downloading all of my photos and closing my account
Does this new management understand the first thing about what drives revenue on the web - TRAFFIC

Downhill for years now

God; Flickr. Used to use it regularly and liked it. Until, when was it, around 2014 or so. Some millennial in head office had to justify their high-paying desk job, as they always eventually do, by changing things that were perfectly functional and aesthetically pleasing to irritating dysfunctionality that looked like some mobile phone app for 12-year olds, and was set out to function as if it was a mobile phone, swipey app for 12-year olds, and I'm talking about the desktop website. So, suddenly, it was an irritating mess that looked like crap, was slow as hell and had impaired functionality.
Then they changed it again, I think the following year, except they just changed the visuals again to look like a slightly different mobile phone app, without restoring functionality and aesthetics that had been present before they wrecked it the previous year. And it was now filled with ads, which is always good.
So it has remained in this irritating, derelict state. "Oath" or some crap has bought it - whoopee-doo, it'll probably get worse.
The basic functionality has remained mostly the same, for which a 1-star rating may seem harsh, but as a photography website aesthetics and presentation are important, and they píssed off a whole lot of users when they changed something that nothing was wrong with in the first place, made it a visual and navigatory mess, messed with functions and filled it with ads. There was an attempted exodus to ipernity but it never really caught on as it should have.
Moral - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Yahoo exec - if it ain't broke, change everything to look like a mobile phone game. And ads. Lots of ads.
