Shockingly bad. We had to wait over an hour to collect our luggage on a flight that landed from LHR at 3pm on a weekday. We were the only flight in the entire baggage reclaim area. Just totally unacceptable for a major European airport. Thank goodness we decided to overnight rather than transit the same afternoon

This is the rudest security staff and airport staff you will ever see. Worst airport of all time. The security staff bullied me during the search. Will NEVER have a connection by FRA again.
Beware: Issues with Pet Transportation at Frankfurt Airport
My dog traveled from Cyprus to Frankfurt on a Condor flight. Everything had been done correctly: his crate was brand new, sized according to the veterinarian’s recommendations, and the veterinary examination had been done several days earlier, as required by law. We had all the necessary documents, microchip, passports, and vaccinations – nothing was missing.
When it was time to return to Larnaca with Lufthansa, the check-in process at Frankfurt Airport became incredibly difficult. The employee at the special check-in tried to find a problem with the crate. She started asking about the screws, then told us, “you didn’t put water in, if you don’t, the dog cannot travel,” and eventually told us that the crate was unsuitable for the size of the dog, demanding that we purchase a larger one on the spot from the airport store. The only available crate was twice the size and sold for €185, and according to the employee, without it, the dog could not travel. Moreover, purchasing the larger crate would automatically change the dog’s ticket category, doubling the transportation cost.
Due to the excessive cost and the coercive manner in which it was demanded, we did not proceed with the purchase. As a result, our dog remained in Frankfurt, while my husband returned alone to Larnaca. If there had been no one there to temporarily care for the dog, we do not know what would have happened to him.
The most concerning part is that we were informed that this practice occurs very frequently, on a daily basis, at Frankfurt Airport. is this an isolated incident or it is a systematic hardship for passengers traveling with pets????
This experience was not only stressful and costly, but also dangerous for the dog’s well-being. I hope all passengers traveling with pets are aware of what they might face at Frankfurt Airport and carefully consider how they transport their animals.
Terrible airport
Terrible airport. The woman who handled our passport control was aggressively rude in a way I’ve never experienced in any other country. She shouted at us and abused her position to intimidate and threaten. I will not return here.”
Worst airport in Europe
This airport is the worst in Europe for passport control, security queues, confusing signage and generally unhelpful staff. I hate having to travel through this airport.
I was planning to buy some Christmas presents in duty free today on my way home. Passport took so long that I was unable to. I am sure your tenants will be delighted to hear this

Worst Airport EVER!
Frankfurt Airport was one of the most confusing and frustrating airports I’ve ever been through. The signage is practically nonexistent, especially when trying to find long-distance train gates, hotels, or specific lounges. There’s absolutely no clear distinction between halls and gates — it feels like a maze with no logic or direction.
What made things worse was the staff. I don’t know if they genuinely don’t know their own airport or if they simply don’t want to help, but almost everyone I asked for assistance gave me nothing. I asked about a dozen employees where to go, and most responses were just, “I don’t know.” One woman literally just shook her head no without saying a word. Another man told me flat out, “No, I have no information for you.” And to top it off, one employee insisted there was no hotel connected to the airport — when in fact, the Hilton is right there!
I ended up wandering aimlessly for ages trying to find my way. The maps online might be fine in theory, but they’re useless if there’s no signage in the airport to match them. For such a major international hub, Frankfurt Airport should be much better organized and staffed by people who can actually assist travelers.
This is the worst airport experience I have ever had in the world -- and the only bad experience I have ever had in Europe.
Aussenposition: Frankfurt Airport nominated for German Word of the Year 2025…
The German language have many fans - including me - round the world. For good reasons since so many words are unique and cannot be found in any other language. Oktoberfest, Spielverderber, Sprechstallsmeister, Sauerkraut and Weltanschauung are good examples. Common to them all is that they have a certain Geschwung and give you a good mouth feeling when pronounced. And now after many years of hard work Frankfurt Airport has been nominated for new unique word for the German Word of the Year competition. Its called eine "Aussenposition" and is brilliant since it covers up for the fact that there is an overflow of incoming aircraft. As a result aircraft are parked far away from the gate for buses to take you to the terminal. And that has now been turned into a "must see" experience. Something just as Frankfurterish as the Frankfurter sausage. Your Aussenposition Experience is totally free of charge and takes place in Vintage Diesel Buses from before the fall of the Berlin Wall. You will see all the corners of the gigantic airport. Just make sure to add an extra ½ hour for the tour. Highly recommended
Not even close to be a best airport …
Employees of this airport know what they do but they have no idea they are on customer facing business. Airport layout is horrible. One of worst airport experience in my life. These managers need to go and see how airports work in Asia more efficiently
Nightmare experience at Frankfurt airport
Lack of staff for check-in, security and passport control, with long queues. Few, if any of the staff, could speak Spanish. I travelled with a group of Spanish people from Frankfurt on our return journey to Valencia, Spain. Lufthansa Check-in and Baggage drop is a question of do-it-yourself with all the instructions on the screen in German. It took an hour for all 35 of us to complete the process. Then I had to go through security twice. The first time there were thousands of passengers and it took 45 minutes of being herded around. A mistake was made at passport control and I had to repeat the security process upstairs an hour later. This time there were only a few people in the queue, but it took half an hour, everyone worried about missing their flights. "Fortunately", mine was delayed and I had arrived at the airport with three hours to spare. During the nailbiting wait at the second security check I saw several staff hanging around chatting. Is there a "work-to-rule" or strike on, I wondered. Definitely an airport to avoid.
It's the worst airport I have been to
It's the worst airport I have been to. Public water fountains are never working. A beer is 17 euros and the walk between gates can be 45 minutes on a good day on top of security abusing their powers.
Security officer grossly abusing his powers
Security officer grossly abusing his powers.
My son was travelling yesterday from LHR to Chicago via Frankfurt. The security officer at Frankfurt airport confiscated my son’s eye drops which were in sealed containers and only 2.5 ml each, 4 in total, 50ml vitamin D bottle and 50 ml hand sanitizer. Why? Because my son dared to question why a small bottle of water which he got on LH flight from London to Frankfurt was being confiscated as he never left a transit zone due to a short connection time. On top of illegal confiscation the officer was very rude, shouting and threatening with police if my son doesn’t “disappear” at once. The officer did not make any attempt to justify his decision neither he could speak any English. Most importantly that made my son vulnerable during his 9 hours flight to US without his eye drops.
Bad place, bad experience. One star is too many. Happy to give more details if anyone from the airport bothers or interested.
Most unfriendly unhelpful security and customs staff I have ever experienced. Will make a point to advise.people.to skip this Airport and Airline. Very disappointing!!!!
Understaffed security check points, most unfriendly Passpoert officer. Connecting flight from SA to Milan with Lufthansa via Frankfurt ....never again.
I used to really like FRA and there…
I used to really like FRA and there still are positives about it: an excellent rail link, free (good, ie FT, FAZ, NYT) newspapers frequently available, and generally quite short check-in times but by now I’d say the negatives outweigh the positives, hence 2 not 3 stars.
1. Signage: I’m German and even for me it is difficult to find my way from Fernbahnhof (long distance railway station) to T2 and especially from T2 to Fernbahnhof. When I arrived at T2, I was led towards the exit with signs to T1 and Fernbahnhof suddenly disappearing. I had to ask to find out that I’d have to take a bus that was going about every 20 minutes and took some 15mins more (long transfer if you’ve got a train to catch!). Even more: apparently there is a skytrain link between both terminals but I wouldn’t find it (and neither did staff mention it) but I took it on my way back. Alongside, you find yourself go through a mess of turns and floor changes.
2. Trollies cost 2 euros each and there are plenty barriers between terminals. I mean, is there really not a better way to deal with this? Charging people to take a luggage trolly at an airport? Really?
3. Frequent delays and endless tax ting. Frankfurt, despite Germany‘s reputation, is not exactly know for its seamless operation. So expect delays and other surprises. My last rendition was them being surprised about my flight from Heathrow being on time so that we didn’t have a gate ready and disembarked via stairs and bus (actually well improvised by the staff though — I’m not being sarcastic).
4. Virtually no shops past security in T2. I get the point: There are separate security checkpoints for smaller numbers of gates to improve efficiency. But is there really not a better way to do this? Passengers usually arrive at an airport, do the work first (I.e. check in, go through security) and relax then while waiting for boarding. In Frankfurt apparently you can’t. From a purely commercial but also customer satisfaction point of view this seems such a stupid thing to do. So why, FRA? Why?
Overall, not the worst airport I’ve been at but I cannot help but noticing that they could do better and are surely miles behind leading Asian airports.
Don't come to this airport for…
Don't come to this airport for connection flights- surely you will miss it due to their poor signs and long walk to gate, then slow security checks from rude, dishonest, unprofessional staff there. My money was taken out of my bag from security staff. Useless support from Frankfurt Airport Customer Service and Frankfurt Police. Advice to passengers: BOYCOTT this airport altogether, if you have to travel here then lock ALL your belongings in a lockable bag BEFORE security; take hand baggage if possible as for sure they will LOSE your baggage or you will wait 2-3 hours for it/them! It is a shame as Lufthansa Airline itself was not too bad, but they lose customers due to this poor German airport staff/ service.
Not the most customer-oriented service…
Not the most customer-oriented service in the world. I understand, airport is airport. But it's not user-friendly and the inspection is unnecessarily rude and suspicious. Hope I will not face it again
Worst airport in the world
