About Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines
Written by the company
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines operates a fleet of three elegant, smaller-sized ships, Bolette, Borealis and Balmoral. The size of our ships allows us access to more interesting places, and means we can dock in the heart of some of the world’s most beautiful cities, and our itineraries are carefully crafted so that our guests travel to these amazing places at the very best time of year.
On board, Signature Experiences showcase the history, culture, nature and flavours of the destinations you will visit – from Itinerary Insights, where special guest speakers and local experts will host talks, workshops and demonstrations to provide a deeper understanding of the destinations, to Treats of the Region, where guests can enjoy local delicacies and learn how to create delicious regional dishes.
Plus, with each ship carrying 1,300 guests or less, our ships are small enough to offer a warm, friendly and personal service where nothing is ever too much trouble.
At Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, we channel our 175 years of experience into making your holidays simply unforgettable by meticulously crafting our cruises to provide an experience that helps to create memorable journeys for our guests.
With sailings from five departure ports around the UK, your next Fred. Olsen cruise is closer than you think.

not bad, but.....
if i had to grade different aspects of my trip from 1 ( very bad ) to 10 ( excellent) it wilI be like this:
cabin 10
service 10
food 8
entertainment 9
sailing program 6 .
one more day on shore, could be added to the itinerary if the ship went faster then the 11 knots on the way back. we could stop on the way back after leaving bergen in another fjord. maybe it is to save money on fuel.
shore tours 5
flam train is expensive, too many hours on bus and train not much to see. few and sort stops
glacier tour is a hoax as we stopped 5 km. from the glacier.
value for money 7.
logistic 10
Borealis
Size of ship - staff in all departments were always so polite and helpful - excellent dining experience- cabin was compact but comfortable - plenty to experience with on-board activities, especially the evening shows. Ease of boarding and departure. Only negative comment concerns the Bergen coach trip which we thought was totally boring. Already booked another trip which says it all.
Fred Olsen is a brilliant company
Fred Olsen is a brilliant company - my husband and I have sailed with them for years!
Great all round experience with Fred
Easy to book directly with Fred online with lots of info available and easy to contact if any further queries. Cruise was really enjoyable with super staff and great food. Plenty to do onboard in between cruising scenery and good choice of optional trips.
We had a fantastic time on the Borealis…
We had a fantastic time on the Borealis cruising to Norway and around the fjords.
The cleanliness on the boat was very good. Hand rails being wiped down regularly. Everything was kept clean. The food was amazing…enjoyed every meal! Plenty of choice and variety.
The staff were helpful and cheerful and very polite.
Day trips were well organised but some appeared to be over priced for what you got! Some were disappointing.
The exception being the Skjolden Cidery…..it was a very pleasurable excursion, visiting a Norwegian family home which included local food and cider tasting. A very enjoyable trip.
We look forward to sailing with Fred Olsen again.
5* service with Fred Olsen
5* service, staff friendly and go above and beyond to help. Food was the best we ever had at sea. Plus turn down service at night.
No penny pinching cutting staff and service like on P&O
Next cruise will be with Fred
Very good from start to finish
Very good from start to finish, just a few things that stopped me giving 5 star. Fantastic check in, Food very good and catered well for dietary requirements. Entertainment very good, Cabin good.
Price of drinks were ok, we didn’t do a drinks package as would drink enough to warrant it.
Duty free VERY expensive! Trips expensive for what they were. They made an error with spa booking time. The spa rooms were noisy and could hear the person next door talking all the time.
Overall a lovely experience.
Seamless embarking and disembarking. Lovely ship with attentive staff in the main.
Great food in both the restaurants and buffet, although the buffet was hectic at times.
Maintenance and cleaning made our Promenade Deck seating unusable for much of the time.
We found the sea days a bit boring, the activities, although plentiful, not really being to our liking.
The fjords and Norway in general was stunning and although we didn't go on any trips, preferring to explore the locality of the ports, the itinerary was very good and thankfully the weather was perfect.
Overall a lovely experience.

Warm friendly atmosphere which comes with a smaller ship. Excellent service and good food especially the puddings which catered for British tastes.
Why we travel with Fred Olsenent of arrival at…
From the moment of arrival at Southampton where we were directed to unload, to the check in and going aboard, all was so smooth. The welcome was warm and friendly, the cabin was spacious and comfortable on Marina Deck.
Our cabin stewardess (Frankie) was excellent. We had a small problem with our meal time as we were 6.0pm but the cabin infomation sheet said 8.0pm. We went to the restaurant and met Jeff , the maître D. all was rearranged, then the piece de resistance came with the meal. (Table 119) Our two waiters (Kodak? from Bali and Christian? from Philippines,) were amazing. The other lady on our table had some dietary issues, not only did they sort it out they also assisted her in cutting her food for her Nothing was too much for them. Our whole journey, the trips the customer service explains why we like to travel with Fred Olsen.
Smaller cruise ship and very friendly…
Smaller cruise ship and very friendly and professional staff. Very good entertainment and a variety of music venues. Food excellent and wide choices on menu. Room was cleaned daily and good supply of beverages. Lots of activities on board for you to participate in. Shops were a bit expensive. Really enjoyed the cruise.

Dream holiday on the Borealis
The whole experience was extremely enjoyable starting from booking to boarding to cruising to stopovers to disembarking. The staff were second to none, the service impeccable. Only very small hiccup was that on the cabin we booked we were promised laundry vouchers which never turned up, otherwise it was faultless!
Fabulous holiday to Norwegian Fjords in

Coming home to family and friends.
As I approached the entry door you could sense a sincere welcome from the staff, immaculate in there dress code. Nothing is to much trouble for them, a sense of pride in helping others is tangible
The ship was well presented from the outside and interior to a high standard. Easy to navigate around to find something of interest. Lots of things to do during the day and the shows performed by the ships company where spectacular and amazing.
The restaurants provided a variety of dishes to meet all demands and again waiter service helpful and polite. In my view, the cabin space is more than adequate with lots of storage and floor space adding to what's already a memorable cruise. While Fred continues to sail out of Liverpool I will return to my sea family time and time again.
The staff are all super helpful
The staff are all super helpful, friendly and make the cruise a special experience..
