Ordered a replacement birth certificate for my daughter, this was 2 weeks ago and still nothing. We rang birth, death and marriage who said wait until next week. My daughter is ment to be going to Morocco and needs a new passport but we can't do anything until Gateshead Council sorts this out and its getting to a point where she is going to miss out on a holiday because of Gateshead Council.
As a visitor to Newcastle
As a visitor to Newcastle, I followed the Sat Nav, and the car in front and received a fine for driving in a bus lane. Most bus lanes are open to all traffic after 6pm It was 6.30, and there was no sign to suggest there was any problem with using the bus lane. I have read all the other reviews and feel so sorry that the fine people of Newcastle have these idiots for a council, not that they care of course.

Zero star.My electric was illegally disconnected,I have been chasing them for literally over a month,all they will say is "contact meterpay",then meterpay say "contact Gateshead council".When I spoke to housing officer she told me to "take a picture" of the meter!What if my phone doesn't take pictures?What if I didn't know how?If I was elderly?Still not resolved,she keeps sending the caretakers up,they're not electricians & they have no clue.It is illegal to leave a paying tenant with a broken meter,but they don't care.They're quick enough to hound me about council tax etc.Recieved a letter demanding over 100£ for a lock change,I haven't had my locks changed.Nothing but a bunch of fraudsters.Disgraceful

There arent words to describe how awful they are
You only have to read a comment section on Facebook to find out just how incompetent they are as a collective. Multiple investigations into misconduct, fraud, maladministration and discrimination. They refer to residents as “customers” which exhibits their contempt for the citzens of Gateshead. The place looks like a Bosnian wartorn enclave, the council are obsessed with net zero in an area that has one of the largest manufacturing hubs in the UK. Medicine, education and housing are all abysmal and if you dare complain about it they will spite you in some other way. The only saving grace is the internal whistleblower that seems to be singing like a canary to the various ombudsmen and other interjectors. Genuinely wish i never moved here and unless i stumble on some good fortune im stuck in this shithole

Awful. The roads are disgusting. Literally holes everywhere. Reporting them gets you nowhere. If anyone incurrs damage in low fell due to all of the sunken manholes please pursue it as they have been reported numerous times meaning the council are negligent in having not acted.
Terrible coordination with other local authorities for example the current tyne bridge work. This essential closure of the fly over is an absolute joke. How didn't it get picked up before it reached the critical closure stage.
Refuse is also a massive problem. These issues simply aren't managed. The head of these services is being paid public money for nothing.
Very dishonest people
This council is the worst thing I have ever dealt with, their staff are the most unprofessional and dishonest people I ever talk too everytime for anything they do at least take more than 7 to 8 months to do it’s been more than a year I keep reporting a repair in my bathroom I keep ringing waiting for hours for them to answer the phone then finally they booked an appointment for me the guy came look at the bathroom and he said they booked the wrong person for the job he is the wood guy and has nothing to do with the job that my bathroom was required 😡 why they book a wrong guy while I waited all those times for nothing they are useless most of their staff are rude
Waste of time
Waste of time. Missed bin collection. Raised a report and had no reply or feedback in 4 weeks. Called customer service 4 times and have said someone will ring me back and obviously they haven't. How these useless people in customer service still have a job is beyond me. And we pay a fortune for this 'service'!!!!!!!!

Thick as fook binmen
Thick as fook bin men didn't empty my recycling bin because they said it was " contaminated"they stated it was polystyrene it was actually cardboard packaging the same material that holds eggs which is recyclable (it actually has a sign on it which states recyclable) jumped up little jobsworths DUH! binmen who probably can't remember their names, stick to using your steroids & get some intelligent people to empty the bins

Missed bin report ignored.
I'm writing this review in desperation in the hope that Gateshead council will finally empty my household waste wheely bin.
In the Gateshead area, household waste is only collected every two weeks. I don't have an issue with this, apart from when things go wrong.
My bin was missed on the last scheduled collection. This is despite it being put out in the right place at the right time, not being too heavy, lid closed and all the other rules that apply.
I reported a missed bin collection and received an email the next day advising me my bin had now been emptied. It had NOT. I've contacted the council again several times since via their website and by phone, and been told someone would call me back, but nothing has been done, no one has rang me and my bin has still not been emptied.
It's now nearly a month since my bin was last emptied which I'm pretty sure most reasonable people would find unacceptable.
This is simply not good enough for a council that has above average council tax and have just announced another inflation busting rise. It's about time councils and other public sector departments started treating the public who effectively pay their wages in a similar that the private sector treat shareholders.

Absolute shocking customer service from cafe staff, being asked to leave because we were trying to feed our poorly 17 month old food we brought ourselves, even though we purchased 2 hot drinks with cash because again the card machine was broke, completec lack of sympathy and understanding on their behalf, absolutely raging I had to feed my child outside, avoid this place if you're a family with small kids

As a tenant I have never been so frustrated and annoyed with their repairs service . Waiting over an hour just to speak to a person then months, and still waiting, for repairs to happen. If they don’t have enough staff then surely this needs to be sorted and not at the expense of the tenant who are having to live in a house that isn’t a home due to incomplete repair work
