Awful Customer Service — Book Directly with the Rental Company Instead

I’m writing this review to warn others: do NOT book through GoCarRentals.com. If you’re planning a trip and renting a car, always book directly with the rental company (e.g., Budget, Hertz, etc.) — that way, if anything goes wrong, you can deal with the actual provider directly instead of being stuck in a frustrating and helpless middleman situation.

We had planned a road trip from Calgary to Vancouver, carefully budgeting everything — car rental, hotels, and excursions. We booked through GoCarRentals.com, not realizing they were just a third-party site that uses companies like Budget to supply the actual vehicles.

When our flight to Calgary was cancelled at the last minute, we immediately contacted GoCarRentals.com. Budget told us they couldn’t help because the booking wasn’t made directly through them — everything had to go through GoCarRentals.

Over four stressful hours, we called and spoke to numerous agents. Many were difficult to understand, lacked any empathy, and gave us conflicting information. Not a single person seemed to take ownership or genuinely care. The only consistent message was that we should cancel the booking and rebook at a much higher price — over £1,500 more. All we were asking for was for them to hold the car for 25 extra hours due to a cancelled flight — not an unreasonable request.

Never in my life have I experienced customer service this bad. It was chaotic, cold, and completely unhelpful. It nearly ruined our entire trip.

This experience taught us the hard way: always book directly with who you want the car from. If there are issues, at least you can deal with the company directly instead of getting bounced around by a third party that refuses to help.

We will never use GoCarRentals.com again, and I strongly encourage others to avoid them.

I’m very unhappy with Go vehicles they…

I’m very unhappy with Go vehicles they took my car in for full service & m.o.t also told them engine management light is on so they put it on the diagnostics machine which they charge £90 for. I was told the fort was a sensor , some other things show up because car fail the m.o.t so was surprise work wasn’t done on the day, I had to book the car bk in again they replace a tyre & a ball joint But see didn’t fix the sensor or replace the wheel bearing which show up in the m.o.t , not surprisingly after got car bk the engine mangment light came bk on so told them not happy with the work done , so car went in for a 3rd time!! Then try to get me to pay for the diagnostic machine again after telling them I’ve already pay u for that & u didn’t fix the problem so after trying to con more money out off me they refused to work on the car & was happy to take car elsewhere to get better service , the communication there is a joke , I strongly recommend don’t use this company for work on ur car

hired a car from Tampa international airport.

after 6 days a Oil and Maintenance light came up.

no rental company near by.

unable to contact directly with any Dollar Outlet

on phone waiting to speak to an associate for 2 hours.

to scared to drive.

should have been checked over before rented out

When I eventually was able to speak with someone they said "it's normal perfectly fine unless you are planning on driving 5000 miles".

I am not happy not convinced we are safe and all cars should be checked out before rented out

Avoid them

Avoid them, they will charge you after you get on your plane, they may seems attractive with their pricing at the beginning, that's all come back 1 of 10 charges to the unluck one, think again before you confirm your booking, it could be you.

I took out extra insurance with go…

I took out extra insurance with go rentals only to be charged an extra 130 euros upon collection of rental car with del paso as we did not have £1600 pounds on our credit card which we was not informed about
Both go rentals.com and del paso are a rip off merchants. Cost us £300 for 5 nights rental on a Fiat 500. Absolute joke.

Paid extra to collect the car from the terminal. When I selected the one that said it was terminal collection, once I paid for it, it said to call for a shuttle bus. Literally sent 10 messages and not a single reply for these ignorant morons.

Almost impossible to cancel or change once it is booked. I paid £113 for nothing because I wasn't allowed to cancel and I was to be charged a no show fee (despite the fact I wanted to cancel because my flight had changed) of £90 and refunded the rest. This never happened

Our basic rental experience in NZ was…

Our basic rental experience in NZ was fine. HOWEVER: We scraped a bumper during our rental. We chose to insure through our credit card rather than with GO. We filed a claim (the local rep said given the damage, she was surprised we bothered). It took over a month to settle the amount, during which they held on to 3000NZD. After a month, they reduced the assessment, refunded the balance and promised us a final statement. It has been almost 2 months since we returned the vehicle, and we have yet to receive that statement so that we can file with our insurance. We had better experience with claims settlement in Italy. I have sent repeated emails. Claims does not answer their phone worth a damn. GO rentals, DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS! I can get the money back if you would just file your own paperwork and send me a copy.

Do not use this company if you’re in a hurry. Firstly they are off airport. So waited 20+ minutes for shuttle bus. When it arrived it could only take half the people waiting. When we got there, there was no staff on duty able to help. There was a staff member in the office and one emptying bins but no one was actually able to rent the car we had booked out. They told us to relax and have a coffee. This was at 4:30pm when it would be getting dark soon. We needed to get the car and get on the road for a 2 hours drive. We didn’t want to relax and drink coffee. They eventually rang a staff member who then turned up 5pm. We asked about returning the car, don’t worry we’re open till midnight but just don’t have any staff here at 4pm? The car itself was old. It had over 80,000 miles on the clock. The boot when closed had daylight showing through! It had dents and scraps everywhere. We took photos and they did try to blame us when we took it back. No one showed us the car or controls etc. just here’s the keys! No service and old cars. I should avoid and use an on airport provider. This car hire company isn’t based in the airport hotel like suggested in some webpages. You have to transfer.

• Avoid Go Rentals New Zealand like a plague!

• Go Rentals [NewZealand] are astute thieves. They slap you with a 10% cancellation fees immediately (not even a wait period of 24 hours) even if the booking is made for 3 months in future without disclosing this information (buried somewhere deep in their fine print). This practice deviates from all standard practices of renting cars in New Zealand, where free cancellation, 24 hr cancellation, 48 hour cancellation or in some rare cases (such as Ace) even 14 days cancellation policy are in effect. They make every attempt to hide this information from you until you make the booking. They are a shame for kiwis and New Zealanders.

Worst car rental ever

Booked for Mallorca holiday, pre paid. Then at the desk charged again, still waiting on refund. Charged for late pick up, flight delayed but desk still open. Then chargers on more charges. I had full insurance already but billed again. Worst rental company ever and I rent cars monthly.

Hidden costs and poor service

Collected the car from Auto Air at Faro and kept waiting. Charged 19e for a toll device and some toll credits.
Charged 40e for a lift back to the airport when we returned and said we would walk back when we returned as it was only 200 meters away. The grumpy guy then said the charge was actually because we were returning the car at 5am and someone had to get up early.
Our booking was clearly for a 5am return and there charges should have been in the initial quote.
On our return, the same grump kept us waiting again and charged an extra 5e for tolls as the device, as apparently it didn’t have credit on it (even though he told us it did).
When I paid the 5 euro, he laughed and said it was for his coffee.
So it cost 45e more than quoted and publicised on Go Rental website and the service was poor.
A emailed their customer service team and received a standard holding reply, but got no other response.
Rang today to complain and spoke to someone who said they would send a form which I have received…in French!

I would urge you to look past a few…

I would urge you to look past a few dollars saving and just use the company your car is being supplied from instead. I booked through go rentals for Tallahassee downtown, 2 weeks ago..arrived at 11:30 for 12 pick up. Due to AVIS own customer bookings, I waited till 3:30 and given a old mitibushui outlander. I tried to complain to the front desk, but because I booked through go rentals I was asked to speak with thier company representative. Coming from the UK, I was on the phone 15 minutes cost $35 in phone calls and had to hand the car back and uber for the next 2 weeks.. I can't put to much blame, however when i had a chance to read their terms and conditions you really are on the fringes of customer protection so just watch out.

WHAT A TOTAL RIP-OFF AND HORRIBLE COMPANY.

I rented a car at a local FBO in Nashville. I told the person on the phone that I wanted a large SUV when I reserved it. When I landed, I happened to look at the rental agreement I was signing, and IT WAS $350.00 PER DAY.

I immediately called, told them I do NOT rent $350 per day cars and I would Uber rather than pay this STUPID PRICE, and they were a RIPOFF.

They decided any rental was better than no rental and dropped to a more reasonable rate and one that compared with National / Hertz at $189 for a Large SUV for the day.

I am sure many people fly into an FBO and don't bother to look at the rental agreement's cost or are embarrassed to call and complain while their traveling party is ready to get into the car and get on their way???

Seems that Go Rentals has found a way to take advantage of people who they think don't care about cost because they fly into an FBO on private planes.

HUGE INTEGRITY, MORALS, AND FAIRNESS ISSUES IN THIS COMPANY!!!!

AVOID GO RENTALS AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I booked to pick up from a specific place (train station) and the confirmation email stated that. Then the actual pick up location was completely different. They actually put two addresses in my confirmation email. I lost 100 pounds due to their error. Never using this company again.
