It’s been straight forward although taken a long time in general to find a house. But HomeSwapper has been great.

Still as bad.......

This must be the most awkward, disjointed site on the web. The first issue I have is that you cannot sign in 2 days running. It doesn't recognise your email or password, even when you generate a new one using their own system!

The other issue is that the design is childish and not professional. All those primary , girly colours may look very nice if you are an 8 year old, but not if you are partially sighted and cannot read grey letters on pink backgrounds. Why they didn't use a professional web designer instead of Brenda in the back office!

Finally how do you contact this company? Contact details are hidden away and their telephone number has been removed because of too many complaints. They need to re-design the site in a more user friendly style that allows those with sight problems able to navigate. And please...stop this 80% match when searching. It is either a match or it is not. Perhaps the CEO who hides away would like to comment on the issues I have raised. In the mean time I shall use other more user friendly sites.

Hi Craig, thank you for your feedback. You can contact us using the “Contact Us” link on the website.

With regards the percentage match, this allows you to see where a home doesn’t quite match what you are looking for but gives you the flexibility to decide if you’re still interested or not. However, you can also filter searches by “100% matches only” if you prefer.

I’ve been reading other tenants…

I’ve been reading other tenants comments and I agree.
There’s a lot of TIME WAISTERS on the site they contact you without reading your AD when you contact them they act like they never messaged you. I was going to put on my AD male perfered as many women on this site can waist your time.
There looking for houses like there buying them I’m a female myself but come on women you can be to much on what you’re looking for I get you need to check everything out a be sure but sometimes it’s to much let down the site often comes up with password not correct and lately you can not even tap on homeswap it keeps jumping. I perfered the old way since they updated its not the best

Hi Euna, we appreciate it can be frustrating at times and have added many processes to reduce the number of timewasters, e.g. closing accounts if they’ve not logged in for a while or stopping swappers sending messages if they’ve not replied to theirs first.
With regards the ”jumping” issue you are experiencing, please contact our Customer Support Team with the details and they will investigate.

This site is absolutely useless

This site is absolutely useless. Keeps emailing saying I’ve got new matches when I don’t.

I’ve been registered with Home swapper for YEARS…never had anything close to luck- only time wasters. And why are people allowed to upload their home with NO PICTURES?????????????

How on earth can you expect people to enquire about a place they haven’t seen? Let alone move to a place they haven’t seen…RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!!!!

USELESS PATHETIC WEBSITE AND IM YET TO TALK TO ANYBODY THAT HAS ACTUALLY GOTTEN A SUCCESSFUL SWAP.

Hi Erykah, thousands of swappers find a new home using HomeSwapper every month. However, we appreciate it can be frustrating at times. We do encourage members to upload photos by regularly prompting them on the website and by email, but it is still a personal choice and some do prefer not to and are more likely to share photos using private messaging instead.
If you believe there is an issue with your matches emails, please contact our Customer Support Team who will be happy to investigate.

Finally getting the flat I wanted

Was on homeswapper for over 2yrs without any success until I had the match I was hoping for when I was contacted by a homeswapper who at first wasn’t interested after viewing and then later changing there mind and after submitting the application to move all was sorted and moved in taking a total of 10wks but could be quicker or longer depending on circumstances with how quickly your able to move once approved after the 42 day decision.
Overall it turned out very satisfactory for me getting the ground floor flat I’ve always wanted and within walking distance of my relatives.
I deducted 1 star because I wasn’t getting important message reply notifications and having discovered this I could have moved at least a month or more earlier so after agreeing to move we used mobile text messages and calls.
But what I would say to anyone who has given up hoping of finding what they want just stick in there as there’s always someone who wants what you have I was in a 1st floor flat and never thought I’d get a swap with a ground floor but I did because of where my flat was located it was more to them than a ground so where happy 👍

They lock you out of your account

They force you to change password and when you request a new one they take hours or days to email you one.

My email provider has nothing to do with it, you decided force us to change password if we don’t sign in on a regular basis you lock the account forcing us to get a new password if you stopped that garbage then we would not need to change password.

Take some responsibility and stop blaming others for you decisions.

a wise move

took about a year all said and done.
i had to pay off my rent arrears, then i had off all my bills, then i had to put myself in credit with the rent for 5 weeks, then i had do the same with the bills, then i had juggle those, then i had to have an electrical check, then a landlord check, then paper work, then a paper work check. i opened my home swapper account in late 2021 and swapped successfully in may 2023.
i was told that I was unusually fast. i was paying about £1600 per month with bills and now i am paying £750 per month including bills WITH a right to buy whenever i want.

it really helps to find the house you want

HomeSwapper helps me to find the house I want. Also, allows me to view many houses, and communicate with many people. Also, the website was very easy to use and provide all the required information to help make the right decision.

Had great result

The site worked well. It's just difficult dealing with time wasters etc. But the site works and with patience you'll get a move. You never know why people are moving so you can upgrade. I came off an estate into a ground floor flat in Victorian house conversion on a really nice street. Took me two years but a lot of that time- a year? - was spent vetting the new place and area to make sure I'd got it right.

Easier to swap

Always better to swap where possible as you get to see the property first and don't need to bid on it.

Neither good or Bad site - No swap for me in 5 years

I do like this site to a certain degree It is easy to open an account and very easy to navigate BUT be prepared for a very long trawls through huge numbers of homes and a very long wait to swap I have used this site twice over 7 years and have still not been able to swap - Mostly due to time wasters who take you to the point of visiting and contacting landlords to get assessed for a swap and then suddenly changing their minds without even bothering to let you know . For me it's mainly because although I am downsizing there just haven't been many suitable flats in the areas I am looking in plus 1 bed Ground Floor flats seem in huge demand and I am on an upper floor so just missing out. My issues are with other users wasting your time than the site itself I would prefer a permanent password rather than having to change it every 3 months and it does tend to sometimes match you with homes say 100% or very close but doesn't take into consideration the match in respect to other users needs such as they want a different area to you /No stairs / Lifts/types of gardens etc so matches are not always accurate BUT this can throw up other areas you might not have considered before Be very prepared though for time wasters with no manners with other users - It is a helpful tool for those of us on council lists but overall unless you get very lucky the wait to move will probably not be much quicker (depending on where and what kind of place you need to move to) Suggestion for users - use this in conjunction with Google Maps so it's quicker to check an area for all your other requirements such as bus routes, shops and schools you need - makes it quicker to sort through

Overcrowding issue

Overcrowding issue. Needed a 2 bed property. Waited 10 years for local council to rehouse. Homeswapper offers a nationwide opportunity. Again it was impossible to swap locally so I went nationwide and found a swap, with a garden!

Password pain!

I like the site but am getting frustrated because I keep getting locked out. I changed my password, AGAIN, the other day🫠 and all was well but now today it won’t accept the password. What is it protecting… the Crown Jewels!!! They need to stop this obsessive password rubbish. Really had enough.

Hi Judith, we obviously take the security of HomeSwapper members’ accounts extremely seriously and so do require swappers to change their password every 3 months and use a “strong” password.
If you believe there may be an issue with your login, please contact our Customer Support team who will be happy to investigate. Please also let them know if you have any feedback or suggestions on how we can make this process more user friendly. Thank you.

Worked for me!

Took a little while but we managed to find a direct swap for my Mum who is now living near us after being a 3 hour drive away after losing our Dad a year ago. She is so happy and will get the support and company she needs. Thank you!

I really don't recommend this site for…

I really don't recommend this site for the simple fact that they will claim you have matches and to please log in and see, but when you click on these matches the other person has not listed your area as a place they are looking to move to, and to prove my point ive messaged all the matches that Homeswapper recommends and each person said no sorry im not looking for a swap in that area. I don't know why Homeswapper claims to have found you a 100% match when they actually haven't. You only have to look at the persons profile and check where they want to live and it does not even say they are looking for your area so i don't understand why Homeswapper claims to be matching you to people who are looking for your area.
Such a pointless ineffecient site.

Reply from HomeSwapper

Hi, matches will only be 100% if you and the other swapper have both stated that you wish to move to each other’s area.

Please note that although the other person may not have specified your town or local area specifically, they will still be matched to your home if it falls within another area and distance in miles which they have selected. This can confuse some people.

Therefore, we do recommend that swappers check their preferred areas (a map and radius view is available) to ensure they accurately reflect where they really want to live.

However, if you have any specific examples you would like us to investigate please contact our Customer Support team.

Absolute Time wasters

Time wasters. They have what they're looking for which matches 90% - 100% what you have and yet, they don't want it....what are you looking for then?? A desert island???

Been on here for 3 years - absolute joke & waste of time.

Hi Katty, we’re sorry to hear that you’ve been finding the home swapping experience frustrating.

Although matches are 90-100% on paper, finding the right home for you is obviously a much more personal decision and not as simple as that.

All HomeSwapper can do is make the introductions and hope you like each other’s homes in reality too. However, while some swappers are fortunate and find a move very quickly, for others it can take longer to find that perfect home.
