Don't get this card

Don't get this card. It's serviced by Synchrony Bank. Synchrony will open your account, then proceed to lower your credit limit every few months which then dings your credit score. I didn't even charge that much on my JC Penney card and already they cut the limit in half. I will be closing this card when it's paid off in a couple of months. For the record - Sychrony has done this to me on every single store card I have that is serviced by them. There are better store cards out there - avoid ANY that are serviced by Synchrony.

I bought this mattress the end of May for my disabled husband. He found as he moved the top layer of this Mattress wrinkled and was uncomfortable. He is back to sleeping in his chair and so disappointed.
To return this Mattress I was offered $544.66 refund plus a restocking fee of $76.00. The warranty cost for me is $332.78 to return this mattress. I still have to buy another mattress to replace this one. That is too much money for us with my husband's medical bills.
To make matters worse the Mattress is advertised at half the price we paid for the Fourth of July (444.00).as opposed to the sale we got for Memorial Day. In addition to this I have seen 2 other prices for the same Mattress on the JC Penney website. One was $710.00 with the code word HAMMOCK. In case there is any doubt to the validity of this review here is my order #2025144511382701. The cost I paid was $801.44.
The following are quotes from the JC Penney website for the Beautyrest Harmony Beach Bay 12.25 plush tight top Mattress plus free adjustable base. This led me to purchase this mattress.

For my husband this did not prove true. The 10 year warranty came at a cost we could not afford. Having several prices for the same product doesn't help consumer confidence.

Don't buy anything from JC Penney

Don't buy anything from JC Penney, they will rip you off. The people working at the JC Penney Warehouse Logistics Center in 5555 Scarborough Blvd, Columbus, OH 43232 are the worst crooks & liars. Shame on you. You are the worst of the worst. My experience with JC Penney has been the worst, horrible, nastiest experience in my whole life of ordering anything!! I ordered $306.43 worth of kid's clothes, Order #2025149513435273, most of the items weren't in the package and the invoice shows it was, they lied with the weight. I was charged for 35 items that I didn't received!! Don't buy anything from JC Penney, they will rip you off. That is why they are bankrupt, because they like to screw people!! Their customer representatives are useless as well. They do not help with anything.

I purchased items online and I would like to return them, Do some in store shopping.. I don't have half a day to wait around for them to open! 11:00AM is an assinine time to open a clothing store period! Shipping costs are just stupid ! Will return and go back to my reliable Amazon who ships most for free and returns are free! Shopping for clothes online is hard and you should be making it as easy as possible to return if you want repeat customers!

I love ordering from JC Penney!!

I have been ordering from Penneys for years with no problem. Sometimes I opt to have stuff delivered to the local store and I go pick it up to save on shipping. I just saw a site on Facebook with the name jcpennyonline with super low prices but that is not a legitimate site for JC Penney. The word Penney isn’t spelled right so real big red flag! This may be the reason for the bad reviews because people are getting scammed by fake sites. Do your research! If the prices seem too good to be true they probably are!

My JCP was apparently hacked last year…

My JCP Account and Credit Card was apparently hacked last year and I was unaware until I received a call from JCP credit that I had a late payment. I knew that I didn't have a balance as I had not made a purchase since I retire three years ago. I have been dealing with the credit card company for over nine months as I never ordered anything and I never received anything. JCP has a picture of a package at my front door; however, apparently street traffic found it before I did. I never have deliveries at the front door just because of the chance of theft. All deliveries that I order are delivered to the back deck area where I have security cameras. The credit card compony Sychrony has been unhelpful and unwilling to reverse the charges. I even offered just to settle for a lesser amount just to get past this. My recommendation is first use another credit card than the store card. You will be protected. Second suggestion.....don't shop at JC Penney.

Returns not credited

Returns not credited. I bought 3 separate purchases via internet. I wanted to return a few articles from each purchase.
I was charged $8 for each return..well okay. I put all the returns in one large JCPenney bag and returned them
They credited me for only 1 return..
My emails and calls were of no help! I'm out about $200.
I will never order from them again!!!!

I’m not going to spend another penny at…

I’m not going to spend another penny at JCPenney. I ordered a pair of shoes as a gift for my sister. I was so excited to present her with the gift. I opened the box and was in total disbelief. What I saw has scarred me. I received a pair of dirty, nasty, gross sandals. Small pebbles were wedged into the soles. The soles were worn down. There was muck in the footbed of each sandal. They were ripped. They were smelly. I still feel nauseous thinking about it. How could a well known department store ship that mess to a customer?

I called their customer service department and I did receive a refund. I called back a day later to get the contact information for their corporate office. I just couldn’t get the image of that gross mess out of my mind.
I was told they did not have an email address for the corporate office. I was offered two ten dollar rewards certificates as compensation. I declined the offer because I’m never going to shop at JCPenney again.

As a customer of over thirty years, I feel sick, disappointed and angry about the negligence of this store’s quality control team, and the nonchalance of their customer service staff.

POOR ONLINE ORDER EXPERIENCE

JC PENNEY ON-LINE ORDERING SYSTEM SUCKS !! placed online orders 5/18/2025 on company site. before ordering date ready for pickup shows 5/20/2025 with ship-to-store option selected. date is bogus, a scam. per store associate, 3rd party contractor is responsible for all on-line orders, & JC Penney is not responsible for any issues caused by website misinformation even issues with products & shipping times. 7 to 10 business days is minumum shipping time for orders & website misleads customers with fake available pick-up dates. I plan on no further on-line purchases with JC Penney & its shady 3rd party contractor that handles the company website. this retailer continues to decline, instead of investing in customer service training even clean, well maintened & well-stocked stores, JC Penney instead spends millions on creating more private lablels. Customer Service is terrible also, one gets someone from a foreign country whose speaking & understanding of English is very limited, & cares less of helping with any issues.
UPDATE 5/22/2025 >> yet ANOTHER version of a on-line ship to store order, now was informed this order was NEVER shipped as per previous Customer Disservice agents & just today UPS received for ship to selected store for pick up. told this agent to CANCEL order & refund back to JCP card as keep getting BS from JCP. JCP SUCKS !!! DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY !!!

Wonderful Yvonne!

JCPenney - 1700 W New Haven Ave, Melbourne, Fl 32904
Saleswoman/cashier Yvonne is wonderful!! She's assisted me numerous times. At all times she's gone above and beyond. She's always professional, personable and extremely helpful. She answers all of my questions and guides me to the appropriate location where I need to go. Yvonne is a real asset to JCPenney.

I purchased a ring thinking that it was…

I purchased a ring thinking that it was a 10 karat gold ring like she’s told me because of the price. Also, I figured that it was it was ticketed at $1200 when it went all the way down to almost 400 with a discount but even at 400 it was not even worth buying the ring because it’s not even gold. It was silver But I did not learn this until I picked it up aftergetting it sized and then they tell me I can’t return it because I sized it, but they gave me wrong information that it was gold. I was not about to pay $400 for something that was not gold so I’m without a ring now because I don’t like it. Feel like they robbed me and I can’t do nothing about it.

Hit or miss

Hit or miss. Sometimes great deals on clothes, but their website is glitchy AF. Bought jeans online, got the wrong size twice. In-store is less stressful.

Disappointing experience

It has been a long time since I visited the JCPenney store at our local mall. I used to visit pretty regularly when my hair stylist was still on staff at their salon. (I have had nothing but praise for their salons and beauty care staff over the years!). I was so very surprised to see that the look and feel of the store had changed so very much. The layout of the store now resembles discount 'after-market' retailers' locations, such as Burlington Coat Factory, Ross or TJ Maxx. There was a time when I could find high quality reasonably priced clothing and jewelry there-- especially items with those pink clearance stickers! Not so much on this most recent visit. Clothing with clearance stickers were mixed up between other items on special discount racks --but there was no way to know just what those cost before going up to the register, because there were no mark-down or sale stickers on the tags. Perhaps the worst change about the store's 'refresh' or 'remodel' is that they've eliminated departmental register stations and now have just one long lane of registers (think of what you typically see at Burlington or TJ's) at the back of the store, behind the shoe department. Perhaps that change wouldn't be so bad, if customers didn't have to work their way through the stinky -- yes, literally STINKING-- shoe department! The shoe department was giving off a very strong and distinct aroma of plasticizer; chances are that foul smell was coming from a new shipment of plastic sandals or other summer shoes.
Given my recent experience at JCP, I don't look forward to going back there anytime soon. If I want to enjoy the 'vibe' of a place like TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Ross or Burlington Coat Factory, I'll go there, where many of the discounted prices are much better anyway.

The JCPenny Jewelry is a nightmare

The JCPenny website is terrible. For any and all jewelry, the delivery dates are all wrong. You cant order to a store to pick up, after you pay, they add an additional week for delivery and then its sent with USPS and literally tossed on your driveway. Store employees wont answer the phone at the jewelry departments. The chat customer service is a bunch of lying losers and even when you do get to speak to someone they cant help you. So if you do risk your money with JCP, always get the insurance because I guarantee your jewelry will be 1. stolen before you get it, or 2. broken when you do get it LATE.

Beware of shoddy, expensive jewelry from JCPenney.

My husband bought a pricey bracelet in February, and by April, it was broken. He did not purchase a warranty on the brand-new item. The store at West Oak Mall said he would have to pay for the repairs.
He is taking the bracelet to a private jeweler for repairs. After many years and thousands of dollars, my husband will never purchase jewelry from JCP again.

Buyers beware

My experience after I purchased a Beauty Sleep Dream Weaver mattress. I purchased this mattress on December 26, about three weeks later received a call saying it had been delivered to the warehouse damage and I had to purchase a new one. The delivery is difficult to schedule because it’s an automated system that calls and repeats a script asking to press one to confirm and two to reschedule. But they called while I was working and I missed the call and their phone number is not a number that receives incoming calls. I had to contact JCPenney furniture and they contacted the delivery service. The mattress finally arrived on February 26 saturated with a petroleum-based chemical. I couldn’t sleep on it or even be in the same room with it but wanted to give it a couple of days to off gas. I had to open the window and keep the door closed. Two weeks later the smell was not dissipating and at this point I had been sleeping on the couch for two months. I had to repeat the process of reordering and difficulty scheduling the pick up/delivery. The delivery service contacted me wanting to schedule a pick up of the mattress separately from the delivery which would have required more time off work. I had to call JCPenney furniture to explain the pick up and delivery needed to be on the same day then waited to be contacted. I finally received the mattress on April 2 and not only did this one have the same petrochemical smell, it was sagged in the middle almost an inch, and three of the corners had unusually large lumps in them. I then again had to go through the process by telling JCPenney upfront to contact the delivery service to communicate the pick up and delivery needs to be on the same day. At this point I’d been sleeping on the couch for three months and not getting even one full nights sleep. Again I received an automated phone call from the delivery company wanting to schedule a pick up only. I then called JCPenney and asked for a manager, having multiple case numbers at this point. The manager told me she was going to elevate this situation and appeared to be compassionate and caring. I explained that I am unable to take upcoming Wednesdays off work for the delivery, since apparently they only deliver in my area on Wednesdays and the delivery needed to be further out. Yesterday the delivery service sent me an email offering the exact two Wednesdays I told the manager I was unable to take off work to be home for the delivery. There was a phone number to call if those days didn’t work, but when I called and entered my tracking number, the automated system said that tracking number did not exist. I called JCPenney‘s and spoke with another manager and again had to repeat the entire situation, and added that I was forced to try to sleep on the outer edge of the mattress because it’s going on four months without adequate sleep. The fourth night on the mattress, I woke up in the middle of the night inhaling the toxic chemical, it had soaked through a waterproof mattress cover, a 2 inch mattress pad, and a fitted sheet. I woke up with burning eyes and heaviness in my lungs and have been sick ever since, and I’m back sleeping on the couch, with the window open and door closed to my bedroom. She, like the others, appeared to show compassion, and told me the original manager I spoke with previously would be back in the office in an hour and would be calling me, then also like the others followed it with telling me there was a survey at the end of the call (they get a bonus based on the surveys). That manager never called, and in the four months I’ve been sleeping on the couch and dealing with this not one person from JCPenney has reached out or has provided any customer service to assist with this issue. The reason I purchased this particular mattress is because it was advertised as having no chemicals. Since the chemical issue with my mattress that has been taken off the website. As of the writing of this review, there is no set date to deliver a mattress I’ve already paid for and still no contact from JCPenney. JCP has grossly failed to provide a good quality product safe for consumers and has grossly failed to provide customer service for the last four months.

Outstanding Customer Service

I visited the JCPenney store in Oak Ridge, Tennessee to find a warm weather housecoat for my wife. Just a few steps after I entered the door I was greeted by Ann, who asked me how she could help me. She listened to me describe the item I wanted and said she knew exactly what I was describing and where they were in the store. She did not tell me how to get there. Instead, she took me to the exact rack display and pointed out the garments that were available. The exact color my wife wanted was available in the correct size. Then she walked me back to the register near the front door and rang my purchase up. The item is of good quality and the price was quite reasonable. My wife was very pleased with the item and my shopping experience was quick and easy. Ann is a definite asset to the Oak Ridge store. She should be recognized for her courtesy and professional attitude. I will shop there again just because of the excellent service I received on this visit.
Thank you, Ann!
