Cardiff John Lewis opticians
Not a good experience at all. Test was average and all standard. Then at the very end I was told I have Macular degeneration. I asked what that was and was told he had no leaflets, but I could easily good it. I was mortified….. and still am. If that wasn’t bad enough, I ordered glasses, waited two weeks and when I went to collect they were completely different to what I ordered. When I said immediately that’s not the glasses I ordered, they argued they were. I told them to check their cameras as I think I’d remember ordered a pair with red, white and blue arms. At that point I had lost all faith in them. I was travelling on holiday for two weeks and needed my glasses so I was stuck.
All I can say is never again. Sorry John Lewis, but your opticians are the Cardiff store needs some serious attention.
Poor service and communication
I have an ongoing issue with my frames that I am not happy about, I have had no satisfactory help from John Lewis opticians Oxford at all and keep getting fobbed off with promised phone calls and emails that do not happen, i am at my wits end as to where to turn, quite frankly nobody there gives a care.
Excellent opticians
If you want an opticians who are friendly, caring and understanding then look no further. Both Faz and Kiana were amazing from start to finish. Thank you for all your support and advice.
Fantastic customer service
The staff at John Lewis Opticians Leeds are outstanding. I can't praise them highly enough, especially Kiana (opthalmologist), Faz (who is a joy and a genius!) and Lewis, who has a great eye. However, there were some issues outside their control: my first pair of glasses took almost a month to appear (they failed quality control first time). When I did eventually pick them up, the David Clulow own-brand frames were lopsided and didn't fit properly across the nose or ears. After several attempts to adjust, Faz organised replacement frames. Thoroughly reccommend the team and their brilliant customer service.
Uneven service but steps taken to resolve
First attempt, the frame was bent and had to be replaced. But what I found most disappointing was that in the second order, after waiting 2 weeks for the glasses and I’d asked them to call me as soon as it arrived, they didn’t call me until 5:24PM forcing me to make a dash for Leeds from Manchester, only to get there at 7:05 (John Lewis) closed at 7. I called 10 minutes before the store closed, only to get a ‘sorry’ the store closes at 7 so if you’re a minute late there’s nothing we can do because the door closes at 7 on the dot. He couldn’t even offer to simply come down 1 flight of steps to bring it to me. When you pay £650 for 2 pairs of glasses, you expect better, and the service fell below what I’d get from Specavers. And if it weren’t that they’re the closest physical store that sells Transitions Polarised lenses, I wouldn’t have considered them. Now I think I’ll just buy the glasses online instead, or stick to what Specsavers can deliver.
Update: store manager resolved issues and was very accommodating after feedback. My thanks to her.
John Lewis Opticians Glasgow
John Lewis Opticians Glasgow are just the best of the best. The staff, advice and service are spot on. They have a fantastic range of frames to choose from and the eye test was fast, easy and informative. This was the first time I actually had fun having my eyes tested. The staff are super friendly and knowledgable. They are not afraid of giving you their opinion of styles that work for you. The Essilor lenses are amazing and you’re not bamboozled with multiple choices of coatings and spin. If you need specs and want the best then this is where to go.

Extremely Disappointed with Customer…
Extremely Disappointed with Customer Service – Except for the Optician
The optician who examined my eyes was absolutely excellent – professional, knowledgeable, and kind. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience was far from acceptable.
When I arrived, several staff members were chatting and sitting around. I stood waiting to be acknowledged, not wanting to interrupt their conversation, but I was ignored for a while. When I politely requested a copy of my prescription, a staff member rudely told me I couldn't have it – which is incorrect, as patients are entitled to their own prescriptions.
I had intended to purchase my glasses there, but after this poor treatment, I decided not to spend money in a place that clearly doesn’t value its customers. Six days later, I called to request my NHS voucher code (to use my HC2 elsewhere), only to be told it hadn’t been processed since the previous Friday. I asked if anyone in-store could handle it and was told no – raising serious questions about what the store manager is actually there for if not to resolve issues.
To make matters worse, one staff member assumed I was Spanish based purely on appearance or name, and began speaking to me in Spanish without asking. I had been speaking English the entire time – how presumptuous and inappropriate.
This happened at your Oxford Street location. While the optician deserves praise, the rest of the team reflects poorly on your brand. I hope this is addressed seriously.
Exactly what I would expect
Exactly what I would expect from John Lewis Opticians / David Clulow opticians. Customer for years and always excellent service and welcoming/helpful staff.
Dreadful Service
Took my glasses back to John Lewis Opticians in Cardiff as I could not see out of the left lense and my right lense also distorted my vision. Asked for a refund but instead they took over £700 from my JL credit card instead ot returning it. Now out of pocket by over £1400. Impossible to get through to them on the phone so now have to go into store yet again!
I went to pick up my new glasses today…
I went to pick up my new glasses today but when I got them home one of the lenses was clear with no prescription. I paid over £720 for the frame and lenses and that means there is no quality checking, either at the point of installation (of the lenses) or in the optician in store. Very toubling for a product that I need to see clearly and be able to drive safely.
Awful service and attitude
Awful service and attitude. They are slow, refused to follow up, and insulted customers by calling the customer "ignorant"
Visited JLP Opticians at Milton Keynes
Visited JLP Opticians at Milton Keynes
I have visited JLP in MK center and had a positive experience with a lady that did my test. I then was handed over to a lady that was very unpleasant and not interested in helping us. Every question we have ask was answered in really bad manner and made me leave the opticians as a result. However I have decided to go back and learn more about options I had and asked for a help from Second Lady that was working there, her name is Diya, and she was extremely helpful and actually I got glasses I needed. She explained everything to me with examples on screen which helped me understand my options. I am really grateful for her help and can’t wait to get my new glasses. I only scored 4 because 2 ladies were really good but that one person would have got a 1!
Appalling reglazing prices
Very nice and professional lady doing the eye test but it's appalling that they ask for £159 just to reglaze your glasses. I am not going back there for that reason.
Terrible customer service at Oxford
Visited John Lewis in Oxford store westgate and service was appalling would only take my measurements if I was making a order straight away, when discussing the lenses options I was told I wasn’t understanding which I thought was rude. They refused to tell me what the pupil distance was and said they don’t give that out to customers which I think paying for a service should have the right to that information, I have decided to get my glasses from opticians direct as they have better reviews and half the price
Knaresborough Girl
Visited John Lewis opticians in Leeds and had new lenses fitted in my lovely glasses. The service I received was second to none from Faz and her team who made me feel so comfortable with the whole experience. My glasses came back in the time specified and faz made sure everything was ok . Thank you very much !!
Great service, professional and friendly
I visited John Lewis in Oxford Street where I had great service. Johanna put me at ease as she went through the many eye tests with professional efficiency, even though I needed extra tests, it never took too long, and she was very transparent in explaining what everything was for. A few weeks later when I collected my glasses, the prescription was spot on, and I love my new glasses (thanks to the colleagues to helped me choose them!). I needed a further test to check the health of my eyes, and Johanna explained what was happening very well, taking time to answer my questions. Overall fab experience. 10/10 would recommend.
I had a fantastic experience with Nisma…
I had a fantastic experience with Nisma at the John Lewis in Stratford, London! Her service was truly beyond my expectations - her knowledge was incredible and the eye examination was very thorough. Nisma's communication skills were exceptional, and she patiently listened and discussed all my existing vision problems. Her colleague, who did my pre-test and discussed my spectacles order details, was also very professional and helpful. I love their interior - it's modern, bright, and very stylish with a vast range of beautiful glasses. Thank you once again, and I can't wait to collect my new glasses.

Avoid David Clulow store, Milton Keynes
I would avoid the David Clulow store in John Lewis Milton Keynes at all costs. I will not be going back in the future. I have struggled for over four months to get my order for a pair of spectacles filled correctly. The store is chaotically run, there is a lack of staff who seem to know what's going on and there is little will to get things right, and if you ring, the phone isn't answered. I'm a John Lewis devotee but this optical marriage was definitely not made in heaven and reflects badly on JL's great customer service and that's unfair and unfortunate for them.
