Fab experience from pick up to drop off and amazing customer service, including help in emergency when it was needed. The only caveat I’d mention - a lot of support is done through WhatsApp which is hard to navigate for a non-Portuguese speaking foreigner in Brazil. Otherwise, great experience - highly recommended
I made a payment in Localiza to rent a car, but the staff then realized they had made a mistake in the contract and had to cancel it. They put my card in the machine to return the money and said it would take two weeks. Now it has been 3 months since the paymente, and I still didn't get money in return. I went to their office twice and contacted them several times via Whatsapp (I am no longer in Brasil so can't do much else). Last time they said they initiated the refund process but whe the deadline came, they started asking again for all the same information and said it wasn't possible. Absolutely terrible service! I do not recommend the company to anyone!

Both the ladies that assisted me were fantastic. Letiticia Salles went out of her way to assist my friend and me, and because of her outstanding customer service, we had a better vacation. We are so grateful to this company. I can highly recommend this company.
As well, the shuttle drivers are fantastic. Thank you, Localiza, for helping make my first trip to Brazil very special.

I thought I had an affordable deal when virtually reserving a Localiza car for the Cancún Airport. When arriving there to pick up my car, I was told I had to add insurance for the car. No surprise there, but then the employee told me that the insurance was way more expensive than the rental itself. Being 800 pesos a day (almost $50). That is, for full insurance.
When I asked for an alternative, she told me there was one option, but almost at the same cost. Only after I told her I initially considered renting a car in Tulum (2 hour distance of Cancun) which was much cheaper, she relented and said she could give me full coverage for around 500 pesos ($30), which I accepted - also because we were tired & wanted to get to our hotel asap - but made me doubt Localiza's arbitrary policies.
So much even, that I doubt using their services again in the future. In other words, I think I can get a better deal with another rental car service, maybe local instead of international. In the end, I felt ripped off & don’t know if this is only the case in Cancún - that is, in Mexico - or in other countries as well.
PS: And by the way ... usually somebody brings you the car, explaining certain aspects like where to find the car papers and/or eventual small damages or failures (in this case they only told us the lock of the back trunk was only opening through an button on the dashboard, not the key).

I had rented car with Localiza twice in the past 6 months and both time the customer service was good. They don't show you the car but you can inspect it before taking them. If you find imperfections on the car, like scratches or dents, you tell them right away and they tell you to take pictures. I have never had a problem and I appreciate the honesty since it looks like they know in advance how the car is given to you... but i always take a lot of pictures, just in case.

They lie about their car's availability and to get around it say your documents (driver license and credit card) have not been approved by their system. They refuse to give you a proper reason and just say they can't give you the car you pre booked weeks in advance. We tried three different drivers (different license and credit card!) and they were all refused.
A guy called Fabian Ortega (Bogota office) was extremely rude and intimidating.
We were on a 5 week trip and had no issues renting a car with exactly the same documents in the US and in Mexico.
Luckily the company Alamo Rent a Car had no issue with our documents and found us a car so we were able to complete our trip.
Will never try to use this 'service' again!

I have rented from Localiza all over Colombia (Medellin, Bogota, Pereira, Santa Marta, Barranquilla) I will say that generally they have pretty good customer service. Sometimes they don’t care to show you the car so you can inspect it. I found that in Barranquilla they give you the car in a warehouse where the lighting is not great. In Santa Marta at the airport they have you collect the car in the parking garage, again poor light conditions.
I don’t think the prices are great but they are not extravagant either. I wish they took into account that when you rent a car for a week there will be at least one day where you will not be able to drive to due the license plate restrictions.
Another issue I have experienced is that the availability of larger vehicles is severely limited. I tried to rent a large SUV several times in Santa Marta but they didn’t have availability (if the large SUVs even exist).
I recommend when renting the cars to pull them out into good sunlight to inspect the cars and make a video of the entire exterior and interior of the car. Save that video until the payment has cleared and posted to your account. I have never heard of anyone being charged for some scratch or anything of that sort but its always better to play it safe and have your own record of the condition of the car.

A big Thank you to the kind and friendly employees at Localiza, specially to Vitoria in POA, Yuri and Benedetto in GRU and the nice guys in Curitiba.
My rented car (Sentra 2.0) was very clean and in a very good condition.

We lost our key,
So they told us sombuddy would come with the car, the easyest would be for us to wait in the agency. We waited for 8 hours, untill 1 o'clock at night (they told us the car would be their at 19h30) in the parking lot. When the car finally arrived the could't open the trunk of the car, but they told us they would do so the next day, so we gave them our contact details since its quite far away from where we stay. We have been waiting for tree days we have called 5times, and nobuddy can tell us where the car is with our belongings. There was kitesurf equipment in the car, and lots of personal stuff that we need for our holiday. On top of that they have payed with my credit card for the lost key, because they have my credit card details.
One of your clerks lied to my face forcing me to contract an additional insurance, which I dully paid, just to then charge me for a defect in the car's door lock. A defect that I tried to have solved via emails for one week to no success.
As I could not lock the car with my belongings inside, my vacation was severely affected. Finally I drove 3 hours to swap the car in one of your shops, just for your employees to ask me to fill the tank and, upon my immediate return, they had closed the shop.
Unbelievable and unprofessional series of events. When back to Belgium I shall take the time to take the adequate measures both on customer protection agencies and on social networks to protect others from you.

It all starts that no one can speak English. I mean, why would they - it's not like they work at an international airport full of gringos.
Then, I suddenly had to pay 15% more than what was written in my reservation! They explained some bullsh*t.
The car itself was clean, but terrible. AND: they said they know the scratches, but can't show them to me! Only saved in some digital form they cannot share.
Return was okay.
Afterwards, I get a bill with more than double the amount I paid! Without explanation. Called their hotline, and no - I don't actually have to pay that. So why would they send it to me?! Tax/insurance fraud?
Never again! Better use a proper rental agency...

The car itself was fine.
What ruined everything was the agency.
Once you get to the check out counter it was over 45 min to finish the check out.
Way too many hoops to jump through.
Then the rate charged was more than quoted.

Avoid like the plague. I reserved a car with these guys using their app (Paraguay). I went to pick up my car at the airport today and they wanted to copy all my card info including the CVC code.
I routinely scrape off my CVC codes from all my cards and keep them somewhere safe to avoid people selling my card details and having them used for online fraud.
Luckily I could cancel the reservation and book with another vendor who reserved a deposit using my pin code. No problemo. Never ever give out your CVC code unless you want to spend endless hours explaining to your credit card provider how you did not buy 60.000$ worth of Facebook ads the past 24 hours.
Oh, and they would be able to deduct an infinite amount from your card. Nice.....

We rented a car from the airport in Salvador and were helped by Aline Oliveira and Daiane Santos. This was the third time in a week we had rented with Localiza. All three were absolutely amazing and this one was the icing on the cake. Great car, service and ease of pick up and return.
Thank you !!! Would absolutely recommend this company over any other we used while on a 30 day trip through Brazil.

This company is not good. The cars are very uncomfortable and the service is very slow. Not good costumer service.

The car is good, and the pricing fair. However, customer service is terrible. I rented a car for four months in Sao Paulo, when the car gave me problems and I needed to schedule a maintenance it was impossible. By whatsapp the only way to get a response required a CPF (Brazilian ID), which I don’t have. I tried calling, but got no response from a human. I went to the location where I rented the car, at Vila Nova SP, and both women who were there basically said I just had to call a number where I never got a response and said they couldn’t help, with pretty bad attitude. Customer service is just not something they consider.

I will always be using Localiza’s services. They are very attentive, service with quality.

Bad pick-up experience, none speaking English. lots of people in the office during the experience, ZERO clients in line and none of them let us check the car internally or present the car externally (damages? conditions? WHERE the car actually is?). Generally always check and double check the contract conditions.
