Swindled with a smile

First of all, Localiza should do efforts to communicate in English with not-portuguese speaking clients, as I have to adapt myself too. That would make communication (in e-mails) way more easier.

In July I rented a car (type Peugeot Partner or similar) via Sunnycars for a trip to the Pantanal (Mato Grosso, Brazil) from 29/8 until 4/9. They apparently chose Localiza as their partner, so I had to get my car at the agency of Localiza near the airport of Cuiabá. I already paid in advance to Sunnycars in July (which I already had forgotten on 29/8, retrieving the car in Cuiabá).
That day an employee of Localiza Cuiabá convinced me to get another car, a Fiat Toro, "more comfortable" as the man said. I mentioned I already had a booking with Sunnycars for a Peugeot and I showed it to him. It was "no problem to change" and the price was even a bit lower than the Peugeot. So I took the Fiat. About the car, nothing but good things to say!
I asked the employee if I could turn in the car a day earlier (3/9) than initially fixed in the contract, which was "all ok" according to the man. So I did.
A few days after the end of the rental period I got two mails (in portuguese) about the prolongation of the contract and a third in which was stated that the car would be blocked from distance, even though I already brought back the car on 3/9! Sloppy administration and an inherent accusation!
And worse, on the extracts of my Mastercard I noticed I paid Localiza two times! Once in July for the Peugeot (I didn't take in the end) and once for the Fiat, the employee offered, despite the initial booking I mentioned to him. Thus, he just made a new reservation, aside from the existing one!

I wrote the company, from whom I received 3 mails: One to let me know they 'closed the contract of my rental car' (guess they found their car), one with an evaluation form and a third in which one stated they didn't find "discrepancies in the contract".

Even if I do get my money back, I would suggest to book somewhere else. But that's the point...they have no/few competition.

Very very very amazing Car rental…

Very very very amazing Car rental Service Localiza..I am using for the second an outstanding service from staff at reception in the morning while picking up(sorry forgot to ask the name- but she speaks English) while delivering the car in the evening Mr.HILTON was very kind quick humble and also speaking English. The place has very less paperwork and bureaucracy where as a very smooth process super fantastic as you are tired while delivering the car but is so quick and smooth process and you are released to go home. I am super happy with Localiza staff and process l..The prices are good too. I got Fiat Mobi coated 80 reais plus I prefer all security and tax coated 184 reais for a day, I found very good price. The place had zero waiting line quick service the place has toilets and water service. My car was booked from São Paulo Congonhas airport where the place also offers you free shuttle from Airport to Localiza. Highly recommended for a good price very good car condition (almost new car) amazing and super fast and smooth process, well trained staff and much more.

O local tem muito menos papelada e burocracia onde é um processo muito tranquilo super fantástico pois você fica cansado na hora de entregar o carro mas é um processo tão rápido e tranquilo e você está liberado para ir para casa. Estou super feliz com a equipe da Localiza e com o processo..Os preços também são bons. Comprei Fiat Mobi revestido 80 reais mais prefiro todo revestido de segurança e imposto 184 reais por dia, achei preço muito bom. O local não tinha fila de espera no atendimento rápido, o local conta com banheiros e serviço de água. Meu carro foi reservado no aeroporto de São Paulo Congonhas, onde o local também oferece transporte gratuito do aeroporto para a Localiza. Altamente recomendado por um bom preço, carro em muito bom estado (carro quase novo), processo incrível e super rápido e tranquilo, equipe bem treinada e muito mais.

STAY AWAY!!!

STAY AWAY!!!! They REPOSSESSED our car in the MIDDLE of our rental, leaving us STRANDED!!
Yes, you read that right. This company turned our vacation into a complete nightmare! We drove 3 hours to our hotel from the rental agency. We parked at reception. When we returned to the car, it would not start. Confused, we called the company to figure out the issue. It turns out the company REMOTELY LOCKED DOWN OUR CAR SO IT WOULD NOT START. Then, a man in plainclothes showed up and said he needed to TAKE OUR CAR! He also tried to take away our signed contract!!! It turns out there was some issue with my brother in laws credit score, so the agent should not have rented that level of car to him. However, they made no mention of this at the desk at the time of rental, all documents were presented as requested, and we had signed the contract and paid! So the solution they came up with was to take away our car, 3 hours away, stranding us!!! No amount of reasoning could get through to this absolutely moronic company. AND they KEPT THE CHARGE AND DEPOSIT!!! We had to get the police involved and they said this is not uncommon practice for this company, and they agreed with us that they had absolutely no right to repossess the vehicle! So please do yourself a favor and NEVER RENT FROM THIS HORRIBLE CROOKED SCAM OF A COMPANY!!!!

Edit: now Localiza replied to me...did you repossess so many vehicles on that day that you don't know which case this is???? How about you contact ALL of the people you did this to and make it right! My review still stands. Do not rent from this company!

Edit 2: A few days have passed since my initial review, now the company has issued a partial refund. They kept 1 day of rental fee, a cleaning fee, and charged for gas used. Unbelievable that they are keeping ANY of our payment after this horrible ordeal, but I'm not surprised by anything this company does anymore!

After 9 to 10 months of full-time…

After 9 to 10 months of full-time rental, they were not capable of refunding the money to my card (issued outside of Brazil) and only returned half of the expected amount. Instead, they charged the full amount before the end of the month and wired the remaining balance to a local bank account that I had already closed.

Good service but unjustly expensive

Good service but the rates are super expensive. To rent an automatic Suzuki swift which is the only automatic car that most localizas offer.. the price is approximately 400 dollars for 4 days. That is incredibly high for such a small car with no advanced technology. I pay 212 a month for my brand new Land Rover. Do better localiza. You are a good company but I’m giving you 3 stars for the inflated prices. It used to be that I would pay 180 max for an Automatic FX category car for 6 days at localiza. Absurd.

Also, if a client rents a vehicle that is restricted on a pico y placa day, the rate for that specific day should be cut in half due to the fact that the client can’t use the car due to the city restrictions based on pico y placa. I’ve rented from Localiza for 3 years each month I traveled to Colombia and I obviously can see how bad those rentals rates are.

Buen servicio, pero las tarifas son muy caras. Para alquilar un Suzuki swift automático, que es el único coche automático que más localiza ofrece en la categoría automática FX... el precio es de aproximadamente 400 dólares por 4 días. Eso es increíblemente alto para un coche tan pequeño sin tecnología avanzada. Pago 212 al mes por mi nuevo Land Rover. Haz una mejor localización. Eres una buena compañía, pero te doy 3 estrellas por los precios inflados. Solía ser que pagaba 180 como máximo por un coche de categoría Automatic FX durante 6 días en la localización. Absurdo.

Además, si un cliente alquila un vehículo que está restringido en un día de pico y placa, la tarifa para ese día específico debe reducirse a la mitad debido al hecho de que el cliente no puede usar el automóvil debido a las restricciones de la ciudad basadas en pico y placa.

He alquilado en Localiza durante 3 años cada mes que viajé a Colombia y obviamente puedo ver lo malas que son esas tarifas de alquiler.

bad service when emergency

good day, we rented a car from 16-30.7.23. it was new, only had 5km on it. it was missing windscreen wiper water and the cable was not attached to the battery, this caused us to be on a mountain and the car had no energy. It was cold, we couldn't open the car and we couldn't reach localiza via whatsapp. we were told that if we had a problem we could contact them via whatsapp, we were told to call. we only have a sim for internet as we are tourists without cpf. we had no idea what was wrong with the car. the service from localiza was non-existent. a person then helped us and wanted money for it. i think you should give us a discount or voucher. we are losing time, money and have been freezing.i would like an answer.

Localiza Car Damage Scam

We rented a car from Localiza in Floripa last April. Everyone was great and professional at check-in and check-out. We did purchase the full Collision Damage Protection and when we returned the car noticed a small dent in the driver door. The car was inspected and we were glad to have the protection, they signed off on our check-out at the Localiza Airport location.
Weeks later someone from Localiza sent us a falsified checkout receipt showing no CDW and claiming we owed for damage to the car. I asked for pictures, they did send several including the small dent we did apparently cause, but he rest of the pictures were of other cars…some not even the color of the car we rented. Localiza has been harassing me for moths for payment even after I sent the actual check out receipt, they want another $700+Reis repeatedly saying there was much more damage that was discovered later. We have repeatedly sent documentation proving the CDW full coverage which Localiza ignores, and I have told them the car they send pictures of is not even the same model or color as the car we rented. Now they have started asking if we have third-party coverage…basically attempting to scam us and a third-part insurance company. We go to Brazil often and have never experienced anything like this from a large company like Localiza. BEWARE, demand full videos when you return any rental car, please!

Yet another horrible experience

Yet another horrible experience with Localiza. Slow rental, agents who lie, agency that doesn’t pick up the phone and fingerprints of clients. During the painfully slow rental process I asked how to extend the contract if needed. I was told in no unclear terms that I just needed to call the agency. The only problem is that they don’t pick up the phone. I ended up returning the car without extending it. Good riddance.
