Lovely show room, looked after by a really nice guy happy to share the history of the company. Great to see all of the different lamps, in all of the different colours all in one place.
I really love my Mathmos Lava lamps; I have both an Astro and a Rocket model.
Today, I visited the Mathmos showroom at their factory, where they have loads of Lava Lamps in various colours and I bought a new clear with a black wax bottle for my Rocket Lava lamp and can't wait to get home to try it out this evening.
I will definitely be visiting their showroom again.

Ordered a lava lamp from Amazon but then spoke to someone and decided to cancel well ahead of disptach - next working day got a notification from them and DPD saying that I should expect delivery - when I asked why it hadn't been cancelled their reply was that it had already been dispatched for delivery so too late to cancel. Later that evening I got a message saying sorry but your item will be delayed 🤦🏻♀️ so I fully suspect it had in fact not been dispatched and could have been immediately cancelled and now I have the inconvenience of waiting until they try to deliver it (which they could constantly delay) to be able to refuse delivery and for them to acknowledge return and refund me when given the fact its still not been sent out they could easily have just cancelled and refunded immediately. Looking at these reviews I'm not holding out much hope of a quick solution either 😔

Purchased the evo candle powered lamp. As I write the tea light candle has been burning for over two hours (in fact it's almost run out) and the lamp has done nothing. The wax has risen into a bubble and just stayed there. What a disappointment. Have contacted mathmos but really not a good showing for this item.

I recently bought an Astro lamp and a spare halogen bulb from the Mathmos website, and when it arrived I was pleased to see they had included a second spare bulb free of charge (this is apparently standard). But seconds after setting up the lamp and turning it on, I heard a loud 'pop,' so I rushed to turn it off to discover that the glass casing around the bulb had come apart. Thankfully nothing else was damaged so I switched the bulb with a spare and the lamp went on to work fine.
I contacted Mathmos customer service about the incident, requesting another spare bulb to replace the one that's provided as standard (which all bear Mathmos' branding, by the way) but was told that this was not unexpected and replacements are only supplied in cases where both provided bulbs have failed. Not really satisfied with this response, I contacted them again saying that I wouldn't expect their products to explode under any circumstances, especially given the premium price, and that I was particularly disappointed having paid extra for an additional spare, which I believed would be of good quality. Their response to this was to once again say that this was normal behaviour for these bulbs but they kindly assured me that explosions like this would not pose a safety hazard as they would be contained within the base of the lamp
I would like to be fair in this review and say that the lamp itself does at least look good, though I am unfortunately unable to enjoy it as this incident has soured the experience.

Lava Lamp is faulty. The plastic is peeling off, and they are not responding to emails. Their telephone lines are also not being answered. We spent €180 for 2 and are experiencing the worst customer service imaginable. They initially said not to use and promised a replacement, but we've heard nothing since. Both lamps are faulty. Bought as santa gift but they don't care . It took more than 10 emails . I even tried to reach out to director on LinkedIn.
I was offered a pin as goodwill gesture .
Service is king . If you don't have good service and a good product then you don't deserve to be in business .

I’ll say right away that it’s very expensive and not worth the money.
What you get is simply not what they show in the video and photo as advertised
You will get cloudy and not well-emitting lamps, and every time you turn it on you will have to wait 1-2 hours until the process starts and turn it off after 3 hours so as not to break
Think for yourself, do you need to pay so much money for this?
Their employee writes to me that their advertising was filmed in a studio and the quality of light affects this
Okay, why isn’t there any warning about this on their website? And 99.9% of buyers do not have studio light, how do you understand this?
There are many videos on YouTube where everything is clearly visible without light, it’s just an excuse

Helpful, friendly staff in showroom helped with our enquiry and we've got our lamp up and running again. Fab! Think the problem may have been a previous 'wonky' bulb that sat too close to the internal fins on the base. The new round bulb is fine and we don't get the smell of burning (got to be a good thing!!). Great to see all the lava lamps on display too. Thank you.

When I purchased my lava lamp they were doing an offer where you could purchase their overpriced tea lights at a decently reduced price, however they had none in stock.
I tried 4 other brands of tea lights, none of which got the lamp working!!
So when they came back into stock I asked them to honour this discount. They flatly refused!!
A few days later they had an offer where if you spent £65 you qualified for 50% discount, so I ordered 3 boxes at £29 each for a total of £87, which they then discounted to £43.50.
When I paid this invoice for £43.50 they actually took £87 from my account!!
I will never buy anything from this company again, no idea how they have survived as long as they have!!
Update
They refunded me the extra money they had taken with what could just about be taken as an apology.
However I will never have dealings with them again!!

Nan loved the candle powered lamp.
I thought before ordering that is this was going to be a trustable company producing quality products but I’m now unsure.
The delivery was late to start ( not necessarily Mathmos issue) but when it did arrive the liquid volume was significantly below the top cover level which made it look silly.
The worst part was that the bulb then went after only 2 days!! There was a spare bulb included but this didn’t even work at all!
I’m now in situation where this expensive lamp as a gift for my daughter is completely unused and Mathmos appear to have gone silent!
Not a good first experience of Mathmos and their products!
Update: Mathmos subsequently got in touch and sent two more bulbs which was obviously good. That would have been great but only 1 of them worked! With the sale on I wanted to try different bottles so ordered two more (bottles only) with 50% off. One was a turquoise/violet combination. Colours looked good but the turquoise lava had lots of dark debris which spoilt it because it lost the smooth look characterising lava, and isn’t anything I have seen in other lavas. I was told this was dye particles that hadn’t mixed with the wax! But there was no offer to replace it with a bottle where all the dye had been mixed properly! Funnily enough, this was also the only bottle which was packaged differently from the rest! Perhaps a previous customer’s return for the same reason?!
I thought Mathmos was going to be a great company with solid products but this hasn’t quite transpired. I’ve tried 3 bottles and 4 bulbs following all guidance yet all the issues detailed were present.
*Update 1 March:
Following the Mathmos reply I can confirm almost all of what was said was correct and most issues have been resolved through some very good customer service.
The remaining issue is that after 1.5 months of use, the turquoise/violet bottle is still an unsightly problem with dark dye particles not having broken down as suggested they would. As recommended I gave therefore contacted support again.
Finally, the reply stated that a replacement bottle was sent for the under fill issue however that just wasn’t the case. If one was sent, I never got it or any communication to say it was being sent.
Aside from these issues the support has been helpful and resolutions mostly good and hence the increase in star rating.

We decided to visit Mathmos showroom as opposed to just ordering online and I’m glad we did . The showroom is great and has every lava lamp on display that they sell . Staff are friendly and very informative.
Would definitely recommend a visit if you live within a reasonable distance..
One very happy customer. I needed to contact customer services regarding the courier service & it was resolved immediately. The lamp is gorgeous. We followed the instructions carefully and after a few days the display has been beautiful. We look forward to it getting better & better.
Bought a replacement bulb and new lava bottle. Fantastic customer service from Tao with good communications. These lamps are far superior to the generic lava lamps. Highly recommended.
