Cons Garage – Considering Legal Action (£2,500 Damage After Service)

I took my Mercedes C180 to this garage for a routine service, and the car was running perfectly when I handed it over.

After the service the car was dropped off at my place, the engine started making a very loud noise, which had never happened before. I asked drop off driver to take the car back, and they claimed it was an engine timing belt issue. This explanation made no sense given that the car was perfectly fine before the service.

They then said that changing the oil may have disturbed the system, which was very concerning to hear.

I raised a claim through AA Parts & Garage Cover after consulting with them, but the garage informed me that they had disposed of the parts before AA could inspect them. They clearly knew the procedure for dealing with AA claims, so this made it impossible for AA to investigate properly.

Because of this, AA rejected the claim, leaving me with no choice but to pay £2,500 to fix the car myself.

When I called to complain, I was told “we are going into administration, do whatever you want.”

This was extremely unprofessional and frustrating.

I am now looking into legal action. If anyone else has had similar issues with this garage, please feel free to contact me as I’m happy to coordinate a group complaint or legal case.

Hi Matthew. This company was sold to Dack Motor Group in March 2025. Dack unfortunately then had financial difficulty and closed the garage in July 2025. Not sure when your service was done, or what the issues were, but there is no recourse with the garage or the technicians themselves. The company was put into liquidation to close it off, and has now all concluded. You are very late in leaving this feedback 12 months on. It's highly unlikely that an oil service done routinely on hundreds of cars a month would have contributed to a noise from the timing belt, unless oil leaked onto it. If this was the case it would have been wear and tear and would have been rejected by warranty, no parts inspection would have supported this claim. Next time, please check your car properly after the service and any issues at any garage, report it immediately and follow on immediately with complaint and then escalation to the motor ombudsman. These processes ALL have time limits, if you drive the car away and then try and complain or leave reviews 12 months later, what do you expect to happen? You will have to notch this down to experience and move on.

Hi the business was sold to Dack motor group April 2025, and they closed the solihull branch in July 2025. Noone is fooling anyone, you just need to call or pop down, and you will see the business is closed.

Do not honour warranty. WARNING !

Stay away. They have tried on two occasions previously say that my discs need changing. This was because I had free pads for life. I had already changed it with them (regretably)
Two years earlier... I wish I wasn't so trusting should have asked for proof. I am now told they are not Motor serv and life time guarantees are not valid. They sting you for work which likely doesn't need to be done.
Oh sorry sir yes it's only been 'two yrs' it's clearly a sell on and apparently they say they've changed sensors as well. I'm gonna get this checked out.
I bet they go down with debt. Action needs to be taken by the Gov't. Company ethos....RIP them off

Hi Paresh. You came to the garage last in 2021!! The site and business has been sold as of April 2025, you need to speak to the new owners to see if they will honour this, blasting the old companies trust pilot profile won't really help. The old company has closed and has ceased as of the sale date. All vehicles are recorded on their health checks, and discs and pads checked, you would have been sent this at the time via email/text as the 'proof'. Thanks again for your comments.

Almost destroyed my engine

Standard MOT and service - the apprentice (found out later) that serviced my car had left the sump plug loose causing complete oil loss and a motorway breakdown-recovered by AA and towed to a nearby Audi garage who confirmed that the idiot apprentice that MotorServ had let service my car had failed to tighten the plug. £3500 damaged turbo and a total loss of my working day was the result. motorserv took 5 months to return my car after many excuses like- Ramadan, mechanic has back issues etc etc. I just hate this company for putting me through this ordeal, I had their curtesy car for 1 single week out of 20. no compensation was offered. I would never go back to these charlatans.

False advertising - no longer offers £15 MOT. DO NOT USE.

DO NOT USE. Had an MOT done recently. Booked via callback after entering details online. Advertised on the website at £15. My wife collected car and was charged £39. I have called back and they claim a new company has taken over and it's not £15 any more. Despite this they are still operating the same website and advertising £15 MOT. When you call the number online the recorded message still says Motorserv UK. The person I spoke to told me to Google for the new company contact details. What a joke! When pressed he took my details and promised a call back which I don't expect to get

Micky Mouse Service

The only time I had my car serviced by an independent garage was at “MotorServ,” about a year and a half ago. The experience was poor — the service quality was lacking, and the staff were aggressive and rude (except for Simon if i recall his name correctly). As a result, I left a negative review.

Shortly after, the manager contacted me, asking me to remove the review in exchange for fixing the issues and offering a goodwill gesture. I thought, “Fair enough — mistakes happen,” and appreciated that they were at least willing to rectify them. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, accepted the offer, and even ended up posting a positive review.

It’s worth noting: this may explain why they maintain a 4-star rating — by requesting the removal of negative reviews in return for offering freebies.

During my visit, I had a full service done, including replacement of the brake pads. I had to return three times due to their mistakes. The ‘gesture’ they gave me was wheel balancing and alignment. However, they failed to do it properly — one wheel, they claimed, couldn’t be aligned because the bolt was ‘too tight.’ I later went to another garage where the job was done perfectly, with a full alignment report provided — clearly, no problem at all. At that point, I mentally decided never to return to MotorServ again.

Now, a further issue has come to light after 1.5 years. Upon returning to BMW, I was informed that the brake pad sensor — which should have been replaced when the pads were — had not been changed. For BMW vehicles, brake pads and sensors typically come as a package. In other words, MotorServ only did half the job — they replaced the pads but not the sensor, which is now causing problems. Whether people like it or not, I believe BMW’s assessment.

I called MotorServ — not to demand compensation or ask them to redo the work, but simply to hear what they had to say about their substandard, Mickey Mouse service. The person who answered said it was 'out of warranty.' I replied that warranty was irrelevant — the issue was that they never fitted all the required parts in the first place. He said someone responsible for this area would call me back. Two weeks later: no call, no response.

As I said, I can accept mistakes. But I cannot accept a business that refuses to own up to them or make things right.

Let this be a reminder: their 4-star rating does not reflect their true standard — many of those stars have been bought by offering freebies in exchange for deleted bad reviews. Regardless, I have no intention of letting MotorServ touch my car again. Ever. Just a note: if they had simply got in touch with me and offered an explanation, this message would never have been written.

Avoid Motorserv-UK – Unprofessional, Dishonest and Poor Service

Avoid Motorserv-UK – Unprofessional, Dishonest and Poor Service

I brought my car to Motorserv-UK in March 2025 for suspension repairs, windscreen washer fix, and MOT. What followed was over a month of delays, misleading communication, ignored messages, and unprofessional conduct.

I was charged £785.25, but my suspension developed noise immediately after the fix, and the parts appeared rusty, raising suspicion they were used or faulty.

The windscreen washer, which I paid nearly £150 to be unblocked for MOT, got blocked again in two days. After final repairs, I was told it was still "weak" – clearly nothing was fixed properly.

I was constantly told lies about power outages, unavailable parts, and delays – while I saw the garage operating normally.

I was refused a courtesy car during the long waiting period, even though my car was held for a total of 7 days.

Poor quality control: OBD cover was left under my seat, and an unknown part was found inside the car after service.

Their conduct made me question the credibility of their MOT testing, and I suspect fraud in how they passed the vehicle inspection.

I’ve filed a formal complaint and am demanding a full refund and compensation. I strongly advise others to stay away from this garage – they are disorganised, dishonest, and lack professionalism.

Absolute shambolic company

Absolute shambolic company, gave this company a negative review for the poor work they did few years back now they refuse to mot my car unless I take the negative review down, why use them again you ask, well only for the no pass no fee mot, they completly rip you off on work carried out so if it passes then it's only cost you 15 quid, if it fails guaranteed you take it somewhere else with the fail report.

MOT offered at £15 then the fail costs a fortune in inflated costs and they try to force you to pay in advance and they do not repair your car and keep the money - you will lose your car and your money
They have no mechanics as they don't pay them and no parts supplier gives them credit so they demand you pay in advance

Only giving one star as zero stars is…

Only giving one star as zero stars is not an option.
Booked an MOT four weeks in advance for Saturday 22nd March. Received text messages in advance, confirming the booking- including one on the 22st March, the day before my booking.

I arrived at Motorserve on the 22nd at 8.20am to find the building completely closed. I called their phone multiple times. I managed to get through to their offsite sales team who confirmed that someone should be onsite doing MOTs. After a wasted hour of waiting, calling and getting frustrated, I called their phone multiple remote sales team back and said I was leaving. I was promised a phone call on Monday to give an apology, and explanation and to rebook.
I am still waiting for that phone call.

Customer service is non existent.

My very strong advice, do not be taken in by the £15 MOT promise. It is a con. Spend your money on a reputable business. Motorserve does not deserve your custom.

Absolutely shocking.

Customer Service. What’s that? Branch has gone downhill, definitely shan’t return.

We’ve used Motorserve Solihull several times over the past few years and have always found the staff to be friendly, pleasant & polite.
However, having not visited for 12 months, how things have changed and not for the better.
The £15 MOT fee is still great value and as my vehicle passed with no advisory’s, that was the only plus on this final visit.
Customer service on arrival was non existent, three staff members sitting in reception, all totally disinterested. Customer service on having to phone up myself to see if my vehicle was ready, was non existent and it was clear by the tone in the males voice, that I was an inconvenience. (Is it me, or shouldn’t the company offering the service get in touch with you, the customer, with updates as part of good customer service?
Customer service upon collection of my vehicle, was invisible. Not a single person to speak to, or see, to get my bloody car and get the hell outta there and this was at the so called ‘reception’!
What on earth is going on here, because the staff certainly don’t want to be there! The manager AND area manager needs to get a grip of this branch and sort it, and their staff out.

Hi Stephanie, thanks for your feedback all noted. We are a single independent site operation and we have a single branch manager and owner. This feedback will be relayed to both. We are pleased your car flew through it's MOT, but are sad to hear how you felt and were treated. Speaking honestly, we have had a lot of bad news of late, so the business may not beable to continue for much longer due to the landlord having a change of heart for the tenants types they want on site, so this mood and general glumness was probably experienced by you as a result, as we have had to have some tough conversations this week. We really appreciate your support and your repeat custom and glad you have found it great value. We will hopefully relocate and get back in action asap, so do watch out for us next visit you need, and we will try and get the staff morale up and to be their cheery and welcoming selves - as you have usually experienced. Thanks again

They did something I didn't ask for and…

They did something I didn't ask for and tried to charge me for it, they didn't do what I did ask for and took three days to not do it! After being delighted with the £15 MoT I asked them to quote me for the Advisories. I still haven't had the quote. My wife lost an argument with a Biffa truck, I took the car in for a quote (not on bodywork) on replacing/fixing the headlamp damage. They said I might have to wait overnight. The next day they hadn't done anything. The next day they had clearly forgotten about it. I said I'd collect anyway. When I got there they had done some kind of investigation of various parts of the car - which I definitely hadn't asked for - and were surprised when I asked about the headlamp - they had clearly not even looked at it. They then demanded money for the work I hadn't asked them to do. I did ask them to quote me for the headlamp - as yet, no response. The £15 MoT is an excellent promotion, the organisation, unfortunately is not capable of capitalising on it.
