Pass on No Frills in Okotoks

No Frills - Okotoks
June 29
Review:

When Christine was in charge of No Frills in Okotoks, it was like a well-oiled machine. Staff knew their jobs, they were polite, well-trained to provide great customer service, and morale seemed to be good.
Fast forward to June 2025 (about a year after Christine left), and you have prices that are comparable with Sobey’s, staff appears to be mostly High School aged students who have had no customer service training or job awareness, and morale is at an all-time low.
My encounter this evening was interesting, and I admit I behaved badly.
I had a cart which required going to a cashier (rather than the self-serve checkout). The problem was, there was no cashier. Another lady behind me gave up and went to the self-scan section.
The only employee in sight was a young man at the end of the checkouts cleaning and talking to another customer. It looked like he was a peripheral worker, not a cashier.
Somewhat annoyed (how hard is it to have a staff person to take your money?), I knocked on the office door to see if anyone was working and a young girl came out. When I asked if anyone was at the checkouts, she pointed to the young man and said ‘he is’. Then she called him to come to the checkout for a customer. By the time he got to the till I was tossing my groceries (about 7 items) onto the conveyor belt counter (def frustrated by the wait). The young man was calm and polite and we talked about how the price of groceries is skyrocketing. He was actually great. He wished me a good evening and I said “thank you”.
On the way out I paused to talk to the young gal (who earlier came out of the office) and we established that she was “the Supervisor” for the evening. I wanted to give her feedback that prices were getting competitive with Sobey’s, and it wasn’t worth shopping at No Frills, especially with fresher produce at competitor stores.
She started to walk away and I asked if she would pass the feedback along to management and she said “No”. (What?)
I then asked if she cared, and she said “No, not after the way you treated my cashier”.
I was dumbfounded. She obviously didn’t hear the exchanged comments between the cashier and I. We were fine.
Welcome to the new age of customer service. I’ll meet with the manager at No Frills to ask them to raise the bar in training, and needless to say, the thousands (and thousands) of dollars I spend there every year will now go to another grocery store. It just ain’t worth it!

Vehicle damage

Well I went to the store and purchased 20 bags of softener salt and asked for a cart to take it out to my truck. 2 employees came with a 2 tier cart and loaded the salt onto it. I asked the one person if they wanted me to bring my vehicle up to the store entrance to make loading the salt easier and he thought that was a good idea. As he rolled the cart outside he lost control of it and it crashed into my truck and majorly dented my truck. The 2 persons told me that they were not responsible for the damage as they were helping me, they had no money to pay to repair. So I was stuck with repairing my vehicle. In my opinion they were fully responsible for the damages and the company they represent also!

No frills in Moose Jaw

No frills in Moose Jaw, can not be worst, the owners need to get ahold of themselves and treat the workers better. Those workers seem trapped! I don’t know the owners and I don’t want to! NEVER going back there again!!!!! If you want to go there go to Walmart instead! Jeez!!!!

Unprofessional Security and Hostile Shopping Environment

I had a truly disappointing experience at Cynthia’s No Frills in downtown Calgary today. While quietly shopping, I was followed around the store by security without any reason or explanation. I was simply trying to get my groceries, and at no point did I do anything suspicious to warrant such treatment.

Being singled out and monitored so blatantly made me feel extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome. This is not how customers should be treated—no one deserves to feel like a suspect for just shopping. I expected better from a store that’s supposed to serve the community with respect. I sincerely hope management addresses this unprofessional behavior and ensures all customers are treated fairly, regardless of who they are.

My experience

Went today, 1st day of sale & thought store would be ready for business & new ad. I was wrong. Was there Mon.July 14, store was pretty empty, holes on shelves everywhere! Ad started Thurs. before, don't know when opening day was, a neighbour's told me Sun. they were open. I figured the store was petty empty because business was busy, staff is new...Disappointed today, store still empty, looked the same as Mon., same holes + ...Didn't see a lot of staff, ones I saw were walking around (shouldn't they be filling shelves?)
I'm going to try 1 more time, (I want coffee cream) but if store is still empty I won't bother driving to end of town for nothing.
I feel bad, we want this store, I know it's small but I use to open, stock, train & manage groc. stores, things happen but I expect what I go in there for is available. Thank you

Terrible Produce Often

Terrible produce often. Frozen food has often been melted or thawed and re-refrigerated. Several visits icecream and milk products has been sitting out without shelving for 30 or more minutes.
Positive are friendly staff and good sale prices on boxed and canned products.

My experience was great, his wasn't.

My experience was great. A fellow shoppers wasn't. I was shopping in the Brantford store minding my business. One of the staff was sitting on top of their green loading carts (dangerous to begin with) playing on her phone while another employee was up a bit stocking shelves. A customer approached the female on the cart asking what isle he would find the rice in. The girls response was to go ask the employee who was stocking shelves and he would tell him because she's ON HER BREAK. The customer was not impressed with this response, put her in her place. Then prceeeded to travel up and down isles in search of rice. I know this because he passed me a few times after that looking. Break or not, customer asks for help, you help. Someone needs to be trained a little better.

NoFrills Quesnel

NoFrills Quesnel. Beware of the bulk bags of brown rice. Was in my pantry for one day and I noticed weevils crawling out of the bag . Instantly took it out to the trash. Had to take everything out of my pantry vacuum wash it down with vinegar sprinkle cloves cinnamon and fresh ground black pepper and let it sit for 2 days. Now I can put everything back. Nothing was else was affected. thankfully. Then I took a break and sat down to eat a donut from there. Half way through it I saw a green spot. Mold!! Gross! I don't think I'll be shopping there anymore .

Discrimination and poor behavior of the…

Discrimination and poor behavior of the No Frills Customer service and employees located at 200 Grant Carman, Nepean, Ottawa, ON.
I used to buy multiple variety of the 2-liter soft drinks from No Frills' various branches. the 200 Grant Carman is the nearby branch where I went today to buy Soft Drinks, and I picked up 6-12 of multiple varieties.
A guy called Math claimed I am the store manager, but I am in doubt if true. because his extremely discriminatory, unfair, and insulting behavior was different from a real manager and civil and educated manager.
He did not let me buy more than 4 items and said I don't want you to get a benefit on these items. He commended me to leave the store and said it's a private store, go to the public one. I’ve heard from friends that the Orelans branch had the same behavior toward him and kicked him out of the store. I would request that the authority and executive body of the No Frills grocery store focus on training their employees, workers, and customer service rep to improve their behavior, follow rules and policies, and be nice toward customers and avoid any act of discriminatory or insulting behavior.

Buy Canadian…get ripped-off!!

Extremely disappointed with the disingenuous advertising at No Frills in Brighton ON. A few weeks ago sparkling water was $1.00. Now it’s $1.25. A 25% increase!!! NOT due to Trump!!! So this week…they have the water at $1.25 as a Featured SPECIAL!!!! Ridiculous!! It’s still $1.00 at Independent…my new grocery store…. Also…they want you to buy Canadian…but bacon jumped from $5.50 to $9.00. I’m pretty sure Trump has no influence on the price of Canadian bacon. Just another rip off…because they can…

No wifi for you

I was checking out at the desk. And the manager happened to be in the store.I asked politely I asked about the internet access in the store. He replied that he is never had internet because his kids use it too much. He doesn't want to pay for it. And his staff will be on the internet all day. I suggested you should have it for your customers. They're not coming in just to use your internet, but it's helpful when you have. Apps and flip apps and I want to use. I made this suggestion because of the convenience. I have found in other stores that have had internet. However, he seemed very hostile and I was very put off by his attitude of internet in his store. I mean, it is 2025 and get with it. It seemed very.
Backwards. I will now seek out shops that only provide Wi-Fi because it makes a better shopping experience for me.If this store owner does not wish to Provide internet for his customers.Well then that's his choice.I guess but it's backwards.

This is not anyone's idea of Best Practice e only way this company and…

The only way this company and specifically Anthony s no frills at Jameson and King West in Toronto could improve would be to start running an honest business. The price at checkout often doesn't match the price the product is listed as. They will increase the price of a product significantly and will remove the price on the shelf. In doing so the consumer has no idea of a price change until check out and if you're not paying attention you will never know.I expect that's the point. If this and other things like the price at the shelf changing at checkout are these peoples best practice, ( this is not a one off either) then its time to take my business elsewhere as I personally don't appreciate being ripped off.

I was at No Frills today at Danforth…

I was at No Frills today at Danforth and Broadview. I purchased over $150.00 dollars worth of groceries. I asked the young arrogant east indian male cashier for 12 bags 2 bags he asked me, and he heard me loud and clear,s i told him I would like 12 bags, and then he sarcastically says to me "12 bags? you don't need twelve bags, how about i give you 2' I told him again I would like 12 bags, he replies "I'll give you three bags and if you need another I'll give it to you,my blood was boiling and this young buffoon did this to me before, anyhow I firmly told him 12 bags and he gave them to me but he wasn't too happy about it. I'm payign for the bags, anyhow I ened up using all those bags because it's those cheap small black bags that are much smaller than the yellow ones No Frills carried. These black bags are small. My purchase contained a box of 12 of Kraft Dinner, 2 bags of Milk, 1 bag of milk alone almost filled the bag, 8 cans of stew, 2 packages of strawberries, 2 packages of mini tomatoes,1 box of 4 of red bull, bananas, garlic bread toast, 2 packages of bagels, a large plastic container of icecream, 2 bacon, a large black forest cake, mozzarella cheese bar, large container of Imperial Margarine, chocolate chip cookies, A large can of Chef Boyardee,2 donuts in a bag, a jar of jam and 2 bags of chip, 1 bag of candy and I ended up using all the bags.

SCAM ARTISTS

This company is, to say the least, a scam. They continually advertise sale prices but do not have the products that are advertised. I've complained numerous time only to be told " the truck didn't come in " or " the truck is late ". Those are LIES - if true the advertised items would be available later in the week which they never are. This has been going on pretty much since they opened and happens week after week.

Stamp Incentive Fiasco

I have been a loyal customer for over 15 years, with PC Financial credit card and banking. Little by little they have been challenging my loyalty to them. After latest stamp incentive Fiasco I have had enough. Filled out four books of stamps and could have filled out for more, with stores either not having stamps or not giving them out. Never got one frying pan. Were always out of product. The way I was handled during this puts No Frills right up there with Bell Canada for me. Actively getting rid of my accounts and make a point to shop elsewhere.

No Frills Supermarket- Upper Paradise Rd Hamilton

No Frills, located at 1-930 Upper Paradise, Hamilton. Marking down spoil fish to sell its customers! How horrible! This is unfit for consumption. The product emitted a strong foul odor, indicating that it had gone bad prior to being placed on sale.

When I attempted to return the spoiled fish for a refund, I was met with outright refusal by store staff, despite presenting my receipt and explaining the issue. This lack of accountability is unacceptable, as selling spoiled seafood poses a significant health risk to consumers. The refusal to address this matter demonstrates a concerning disregard for customer safety and satisfaction. Pointing to final sale print on mark down label how disgusting! Product should not be spoiled before being marked down!
