Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the pricing, often receiving disproportionately high charges for minor infractions or short stays. Customers also frequently reported issues with payment systems, including machines not working, double charges, or payments not being registered despite evidence. The clarity of signage and location information was also a common point of frustration, leading to unexpected fines. Some people were dissatisfied with the appeals process, finding it unhelpful and not adequately addressing their concerns, even when evidence of payment or mitigating circumstances was provided. Additionally, some customers encountered unhelpful or argumentative staff when trying to resolve issues.

Absolutely unacceptable from Ocean…

Absolutely unacceptable from Ocean Parking.

I received a £100 charge after stopping briefly at McDonald’s late at night to feed my severely disabled child, who was in meltdown. McDonald’s is his safe food and often the only thing he will eat.

The restaurant was closed inside, so I had no way to register my vehicle or follow any process. Nothing was explained at the drive-through.

My appeal was rejected, and I was told I should have called a helpline — while managing a distressed child at midnight. Completely unrealistic.

This system is unfair and punishes genuine customers for situations outside their control.

If only I could give them a negative…

If only I could give them a negative number. Parked at a pay on exit site. Upon leaving I loaded the app and attempted to pay. The app told me it was free and I could not make any payment. BANG £100 fine despite showing them the screen grabs of me attempting to pay. Legal theft

Why must you give at least one star!!
Absolutely useless and incompetent. Appealed a charge on the basis I'd selected the wrong vehicle from the app. So I had paid for parking, just selected incorrect number plate, yes fully aware that's my admin error. Advised they'd drop the charge to £20 if paid within 14 days, attempted to but wasn't actually offering the reduced amount.

Tried to pay, still received a £100 charge

Disappointing experience with unclear payment instructions.

The car park uses ANPR to track your stay, but it does not clearly state when payment needs to be made. It’s reasonable to assume you can pay on return, as with many similar car parks.

I attempted to pay via the app but it wouldn’t allow the correct duration. Despite making a payment in good faith, I still received a £100 charge (reduced to £60).

My appeal was rejected with a generic response that didn’t address the issue. This feels unfair when genuine attempts to pay have been made.

Would advise others to be very cautious.

DELIBERATE FRAUD

DELIBERATE FRAUD

This company issued a PCN (retracted on appeal) despite knowing that the parking had been paid for.

It was a speculative invoice and simply fraud.

12 mins of parking at midnight

12 mins of parking at midnight, £100 fine. Tried to explain to them that i didn't see the sign( was so dark that even their picture of my registration number was barely visible).
Challenge was not successfull. What an absolutely legal way to steal money from people. I wish you had to work hard to earn money and you would understand. Scam scam scam.

Nasty, insidious and bullying

I was hit with a fine for overstaying after my car broke down. Initially they stated that I’d been parked at the Gloucester Quays car park, to which I replied “how do you get an overstaying fine at a carpark you have to pay upon exit?”
• They referred to the Gloucester Quays Carpark instead of the Peel Centre.
• I was at Gloucester Quays on the day the penalty was issued, not the day the “offence” happened - this caused the confusion. I use both shopping centres regularly and often I’m at both only within days of each other.
• I wrote back - based on the fact I was parked at the Quays on that day and just wanted clarification as you have to pay to exit.
• They treated this as my appeal.
• I wrote back saying my that wasn’t my appeal, I was just asking for clarification as - like I’ve said - you have to pay to exit the carpark they alluded to. But by this time I’d worked out they actually meant the Peel Centre, NOT Gloucester Quays (2 separate properties adjacent to each other).
• They ignored this and told me their decision was final - even though THEY had caused confusion by referencing a carpark they don’t manage.
Nasty, insidious, bully tactics.
Suffice to say, my car issue didn’t interest them.

How these companies are allowed to legal trade is beyond me!

Where do I start. The unethical nature and approach of this business is beyond belief. If I ran my business as they do theirs I'd be out of business within months.

I appealed a fine due to having young children with me hindering my ability to park clearly within the white lines ( my front left tyre was only just touching it ) the car next to me had parked on the white line forcing me to move over on mine slightly..

My vehicle is leased and thus I didn't receive the letter until a few days later due to it going to the lease company. I appealed as per above to which they sent a reminder which again went to lease company and thus I didn't get it for over a week.

I sent copied of the appeal and a fresh letter explaining things.

I've received a letter informing me it's gone to a debt collection agency and I've just had to pay £170...

Shocking practices and dreadfully unethical.

Such companies are nothing more than legal gangsters

Vile and disgusting

Vile and disgusting, these people targeted my car for 8 straight days which was parked in a dock behind a building. How they found it is beyond me but they fined me £800 for a week. Why isn’t it illegal for them not ticket your car so you know to move the car ?? I wish the worse on these company’s.

Peel Centre - Stockport

Peel Centre retail car park in Stockport - didn't pay £1 for parking for less than 2h, a month later got a £60 charge. I don't remember seeing any payment signs when I visited that day (first time in Stockport as well), but it was an honest mistake. Getting a parking charge was ultimately fair because I was in the wrong, but 60 times the original amount is just daylight robbery.

Extortion dressed up as “parking…

Extortion dressed up as “parking management”. Ocean Parking issued a charge to an authorised permit holder using pitch-dark photos that prove nothing, then rejected the appeal with boilerplate nonsense. No common sense, no fairness, just revenue chasing.

100% corrupt company

10 minutes late out of the carpark and was fined £100. Appealed it and adjudicator ruled in their favour surprise surprise. I was parked in the actual carpark for 2 hours but traffic didn't allow me to leave in time and somehow that's my fault!! Go figure. Absolutely corrupt and immoral. The adjudicator didn't even want to listen to my side which leaves you with suspicions that they're also profiting. These free money making scams need to stop and the companys fined heavily. It's extremely unethical and as I say it's a licence to print free money for doing literally nothing. Disgusting practice.

Careless company

Careless company. Parked on Boxing Day and got fined £60. I explained it in appear said there’s no clear sign said bank holiday is payable. That’s why I thought it’s free. But they didn’t care at all. Just simply rejected and ask me to pay.
