18 weeks and counting……since I paid…

18 weeks and counting……since I paid 100% up front.

I have not been advised of any exceptional delays.

The website still claims 8-10 weeks delivery from order/payment. Within days they tell you that the lead time is in fact 12-14 weeks.

After chasing again, I’m told that the order is nearly ready, but then I will be at the mercy of carriers, who will take up to another three weeks before delivering the sofa.

UPDATE:

The sofa arrived and I have to say that I am very happy with it. The quality is every bit as good as I had hoped. The delivery team were very professional and assembled the L-shaped sofa very efficiently.

On balance I would recommend Old Boot for the product, however if you really need the sofa within a time frame, I would suggest speaking with Old Boot and getting a committed delivery time scale before placing your order.

I’am still awaiting delivery of 2x…

I’am still awaiting delivery of 2x Judge sofas, I was originally told 12/14 weeks I’m now in the 17th week about to go into the 18th week. I’m normally a patient person but vastly this patience is running out. I will update my review when I receive sofas.

What I can say about this company, they did respond well to my complaint of not receiving the sofa in a timely manner.
I have to say the sofa it’s absolutely beautiful well made and wonderfully comfortable. So over all I’m happy.

SIX MONTHS of waiting for my new sofa…

Six months of waiting for my new sofa and chair has turned anticipation into frustration. Despite assurances, the prolonged wait has left me feeling disappointed as a customer. To add insult to injury, the sofa arrived without feet. This drawn-out process and incomplete delivery have soured the experience, raising doubts about the brand's reliability and professionalism.

I can only apologise if you did not find our regular updates satisfactory, as an independent company with a small team we do try our best to keep in touch with our customers as much as possible and are always at the end of the phone or in the showroom should you have any concerns.

I can see that whilst your order arrived without feet due to an error on the third party delivery company's part, these were dispatched to you on the day of delivery and arrived the following day. I am truly sorry for any inconvenience this caused.

An amazing showroom to visit

I recently visited the showroom in Matlock and was met with an array of different styles of sofas to choose from. The staff were not pushy and happy to answer any questions asked. I wasn't sure if I wanted leather or fabric but larger swatches of all the different options were available to see which makes it much easier to visualise the finished piece. My mind changed various throughout my visit, but I cannot wait to receive my new Alfie sofa in Mellow Harissa. Overall an brilliant sales experience.

I'm absolutely thrilled with my Hepburn…

I'm absolutely thrilled with my Hepburn sofa, It's the total package of style and comfort. What really seals the deal is how comfy it is! Movie nights and lazy Sundays just got a major upgrade. Ordering was easy, and the customer service was friendly and on point. If you want a sofa that's a perfect blend of chic and cozy, the Hepburn is the way to go!

Bad after sales service and almost impossible to return

Buying the sofa from Old Boot is fine. However returning it after finding it didn't look right and the measurements were out, was very challenging.
The team there unfortunately were not professional and made returning the sofa unnecessarily challenging. These were the difficulties we encountered with Old Boot (Symphony Retail Ltd).
1. Free Same Day Return - This option was not available because the courier ASB, did not give me enough notice of delivery and when they asked be to confirm the delivery time, and I did not confirm, they proceeded to delivery it anyway, in my absence. This on it’s own was not really acceptable.
2. Within 28 days - I informed them clearly of the return within 4 days, on 26th July, following on from my request I then needed to chase as they were unresponsive. If they had initiated the refund/return process on 26th July, this would have meant less time in my house, which is what I intended and why I was so quick to request a return. Instead they tried to persuade and pressure me down other routes. This was unreasonable and also unacceptable.
3. From 26th July it then took the couriers 30 days to arrive to collect the sofa. Had I known this would take so long, I would have happily arranged for the delivery of the sofa back myself. According to the T&Cs "The Buyer must allow the Seller access to collect the goods within 14 days of cancellation". This did not happen.
4. One of the reasons for the return was the measurements did not match up to the measurements on the website. The seat height should have been 44cm, it felt high and uncomfortable, when I measured it, the seat height was 52cm. The sofa was not as described on the website. This is also not acceptable.

From Grey leather to Green

We purchased 2 Graduate grey leather sofas in April 2021 at a cost £4,500 these now need replacing as they have now turned a horrible greenish colour. I did contact Old boots customer service they were disinterested and advised this is to be expected if in sunlight and sent a leather care information pack which was never sent when ordered.
So just a warning to people with bifolding doors to think twice about ordering aniline leather sofas from Old boots as I have had another grey leather sofa (non aniline) in open plan before with no problems.

The reply from Old Boots is inaccurate.
1. Before placing the order no mention of sunlight was discussed by either party.
2. My email states they as in both sofas the foot stool has faded but is fine as in not green .
3. No recommendations were made on how we could darken the colour however you did state it would invalidate the guarantee on the leather.
4. I was never sent a leather care guide until I emailed complaining the leather has turned green.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we have now located your order after requesting the additional information this morning, whilst we are very sorry to hear how unhappy you are we do feel your review is inaccurate.

Looking at your correspondence from Jul 2023 when you contacted us about the sofa you took delivery of in May 2021, your enquiry asked if we could "suggest anything I can use on these to bring them back to a grey colour ?" You also advised that you assumed the colour had faded due to being kept in direct sunlight.

You then followed up your email with a call to our sales team where again you asked if there was anything we could recommend to darken the colour of your sofas, confirming that they had faded gradually and again acknowledging that the direct sunlight the sofas are sat in were the cause of this issue.
Our team explained that as leather is a natural product, as with any similar product it will fade over time (gradually as you have stated) when placed in direct sunlight over a prolonged period of time.

Looking back at our correspondence with you prior to you placing the order I can see you spoke with our sales team several times and this was also explained at the time.

Your order was for two sofas and a footstool however in all your correspondence with us you have only flagged the one sofa as having the problem, is the other sofa away from direct sunlight and therefore not faded?

I am truly sorry if you are disappointed in the leather and our response, we did make recommendations for how you could darken the sofa you were contacting us about and did resend our leather care guide with advice on how to care for our leathers. This was in response to your enquiry of could we "suggest anything I can use on these to bring them back to a grey colour ?" I am sorry if you did not feel this was sufficient.

We have not heard from you since Jul 2023 regarding this however if you would like to contact our customer service team again we would of course be happy to discuss this further, please email us at help@oldbootsofas.com.

Think long and hard before purchasing from this company

January 2023 I decided to purchase a new armchair for my husband as his old one had seen better days (25 years old), but was still comfortable and looked good. Old Boot appeared helpful when ordering a Howard Leather armchair in Original Leather Chestnut and I proceeded with the order. There was not much in the way of communication during the manufacture of the chair, but as I was not in a hurry accepted this. When the chair arrived (April 2023) we could see straight away that the leather on the seat appeared excessive and saggy. My husband sat on it a few times and then avoided it to sit elsewhere. We noticed after this that a large crease appeared right through the middle of the seat after only a few 'sittings', so I got in touch with Old Boot who sent someone round to look at it from a furniture repair company - repair?? I was not allowed in the room so was unaware of the procedure to put this right and afterwards was asked to sign to say I was happy with the visit. How was I to know if I was happy as a) I didn't know what they did to put this 'repair' supposedly right, and b) did not have the option to try it out before signing it off. I was told it needed plumping up - very very difficult to do with a lump of foam (another story). They did mention that the only other option was to have the leather re-sewn so my conclusion to this is that there was far too much excess leather for the 'stuffing' which made it baggy. FOAM STORY - I had not realised this seat, when purchased, would be foam until after the purchase and my complaint, when I was told the foam option was what I had ordered. I could not see that there was an option for this and would certainly have picked another filling if offered. Perhaps the sales team should be more readily available to suggest options? Read any small print before parting with your hard earned cash. Not a company I would recommend for any future purchases and would recommend you think long and hard (reading any small print) before giving this company your order.
Update - 2025
Following the above remarks, the chair is still rubbish. There is a crease still along the middle of the seat (has always been there) and even with reconditioning the leather this is still very prominent. The seat cannot be 'plumbed up' as recommended - again, I say, how do you plump up foam? The smell of the leather I can only liken to the smell of leather bags being sold on the beach front abroad. Still very, very disappointed with this item. I am no expert but would suggest the leather seat was made too large for the foam making it a baggy seat as previously mentioned above. If I could afford it, would dump it and buy a decent chair elsewhere... As a final note, I have never had any response from the company themselves other than asking via this site for a copy of the order!!!

We purchased two sofas back in 2020 and…

We purchased two sofas back in 2020 and have recently bought a small chair to match. I cannot speak highly enough of the team, they have been brilliant, from ordering leather samples which arrived next day to advising on the best options and then confirming our order. The whole experience has been an absolute pleasure.

The quality is superb, the two existing sofa are really comfy and the leather has aged wonderfully, our new chair is just as good and we look forward to living with our "Old Boots" for many years to come. We'll be in touch soon for a footstool!

BUYERS BEWARE

As promised, I want to warn other potential customers about my horrendous buying experience with this company after ordering an Urbanite 3-seater sofa-bed from them, on the last day of the January sales, (30/01/23 with full payment made by PayPal Credit). At time delivery was quoted at 10-12 weeks for this item. Whilst I appreciate the sofas are made to order, the sofa was not in fact delivered until 16/08/23. You read right, 28 WEEKS LATER! The company blamed supply issues getting the buckskin leather and the hinge mechanisms for the bed being the reason. Either way it was an outrageous length of time.

The day the sofa arrived, their nominated delivery company, they were not properly briefed as to the delivery requirements as they had to remove the arms and were unable to deliver the item inside up to the first floor of my property. They were clearly not professionally trained and whilst attempting to do manoeuvre the remaining part of the sofa bed, they also managed to damage the corner wall in my downstairs hall in their attempt.

During this fiasco I was able to inspect the interior of the sofa bed and was less than happy with the quality of the bed folded within it. The size was not as wide as a normal double bed, and the mattress thickness and quality were clearly not as originally specified in their online description "Stretch out on my 6cm memory foam mattress. It's easily comfy enough for everyday".

In the end I decided to decline the sofa and asked the delivery company to return it. I advised the company by email the same day as to the reasons and requested a full refund, as was my right in their published T&Cs, namely: “8.2 Any payments made by the Buyer shall be refunded in full within a maximum of 21 days following collection of Goods”.

However, they did not keep to this timetable and after the maximum time had passed, after emailing and being told “there was a problem with refunding back to PayPal Credit”, I contacted PayPal Credit to be told they had not been in any contact with them regarding any issues, nor had they attempted to try to refund me. At this point I raised a PayPal dispute to try to ensure I received the money. However, PayPal Credit were unable to help me because the time between purchase and delivery exceeded 180 days, which is the maximum time allowed under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.

Only when this dispute was closed, and a threat of legal action was made, did this company eventually process the refund, mysteriously without issue. I eventually received the monies back to my bank yesterday, SIX WEEKS LATER!

If I had the option here, I would give this company no stars, but unfortunately, I am unable to do so, so it must be 1.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and I am sorry you feel you are unhappy with the process.  Looking at your file, I can see that you placed the order for an Urbanite sofa bed.  The item was completed and upon delivery and the removal of the sofa arms, the sofa would not fit into your desired location.  The assumption had been made that the sofa bed came with a detachable back, however, nowhere do we advertise this is the case.  Following the failed delivery we did offer to make a replacement sofa with a detachable back to ensure this could be delivered and in the meantime would provide you with a loan sofa.  You declined this offer.  It was also noted you stated the size was not a double mattress.  Our sofa bed and mattress sizes are clearly stated on our website and meet the criteria for a double bed.  You declined all options and requested a refund.
We had scheduled the refund however, prior to us being able to action this, you raised a dispute through Paypal and we then had to follow the Paypal guidelines and respond to the matter via their chancel. We communicated this to you and kept you up to date of the information received by us through Paypal.  Once Paypal had considered all the information they replied to you stating that due to the time passed since payment they couldn't action the matter.  At this point on our system the case was still showing as under review and we could not action any refund.  We were then enabled to get the refund action to show on your case and as soon as this happened the refund took place.  We were not offered any options as to how this refund took place.
I am sorry you were not satisfied with the service received.

A truly exceptional company from start…

A truly exceptional company from start to finish. The customer service is second to none, you're given a first class service from initial enquiry, ordering and throughout the production of your beautiful order. I asked questions about a sofa being made in a leather that wasn't showing on the Hepburn sofa advertisement - Zoe was a huge help with that, and I ended up ordering it, in that leather. The craftsmanship and expertise that is obvious to see in their furniture, is unique and exceptionally beautiful. I've found myself standing and just staring at the beauty of their work, they're experts in beauty.

I wouldn't hesitate for a second, to highly recommend this fantastic company.

Very happy customers

We bought a Howard 4 seater sofa from the Matlock outlet. The quality is great. The design is exactly what we wanted for our new open plan kitchen/diner.
The buying experience was also smooth; the legs got changed to something we liked more, delivery was arranged to suit us.

We have a Howard Snuggler

We have a Howard Snuggler. A most comfortable and beautiful item. The service was excellent from the initial order to the delivery. It arrived wrapped in a reusable protective cover so not packaging waste. It will be a family heirloom. Many thanks Old Boots!

We ordered a Battersea sofa in velvet from the Matlock showroom, the sales team could not have been more helpful or accommodating and when the sofa arrived this morning we couldn't have been more delighted. It's so comfortable and the quality is exactly what we expected. Brilliant experience from start to finish.
