Great app, very useful and pretty easy to use. I've been a subscriber for a few years now, and find it's well worth the small expense, for finding walking routes, planning walks, etc.

Stick with the original and best mapping app - beats all the influencer advertised inferior apps. Safe, reliable mapping, great app integration with everyday smart watches as well as pro hiking watches, and the route creation tools and detailed maps on the Pro subscription are amazing

Excellent maps for walking, just wish I'd subscribed years ago!

We absolutely love the online maps through the Ordnance Survey app - it has helped us no end of times to navigate less popular walks and is easy to use. Even our boys can navigate using them! Would not be without. Great service, thanks!

I hike out in the fields very frequently and I take OS maps for granted now. The ease of use to have perfect maps showing footpaths and routes with GPS on your phone is just a superpower, I honestly don't know what I would do without it.

I've looked for free competitors to OS maps and honestly there is nothing like it. I'm more than happy to pay for maps like this.

Excellent way to access the OS maps at a sensible cost.

Their app is good, not necessarily the best on the market but is easy to use and seems to be continually improving.

Never had a problem with accessing the maps on or offline. It is easy to download those you need before setting off to an area with little or no mobile coverage.

I have been using the OS maps for 9 or 10 years, initially within the Viewranger app before that was acquired by a German competitor and lost much of the Viewranger functionality in the replacement app.

I moved to the OS app as the map pricing was much better value than any third-party app that offered their use and it provided sufficient functionality to meet my needs.

So, unbeatable pricing, functional app that is continually improving, flexibility of use online and offline.

I signed up just over 12 months ago to the app subscription, which was easy, as others have said, but I didn’t use the app much, so didn’t plan on renewing it, but it seems impossible to cancel & they have auto renewed the subscription (£34.99). When trying to cancel on the app, it looks like it will just end & not auto renewed. In my experience they don’t make it easy to cancel. I have tried the bot chat & was informed that I was next in line to an agent, but no one appeared after almost 15 minutes.
I’m sure the app is great, but having not used it much, I find communication a little frustrating. Hopefully someone in customer service will see this & reach out, thanks.

As someone who enjoys walking, I've been using OS paper maps for decades, but decided to go for a subscription to OS maps online. There was an offer on at the time so it was half price (I think), but even at the full price of £36 a year it's incredible value. I can download maps and create routes on my desktop PC, and import routes too (for instance, the Ramblers have a number of walking routes and you can download the GPX file from there and it imports seamlessly into OS). The desktop site shows elevations, distance and so on and lets you set waypoints, all superimposed on the OS map.

It then really comes into its own on the mobile app. The routes you save on the desktop appear on your phone automatically of course, and you have the option (which I don't use but did try) to "start route" when you're at your desired location, and it will walk you through your route. Although that didn't seem terribly useful, what I do find useful is those occasions when you're not 100% which of the four footpaths you're supposed to take at a junction, and here the mobile app is great - a pointer shows where you are and which direction you're heading, and if you stray onto the wrong path you can see right away that you should have taken the path just to the left, for instance.

The downside to any mobile walking app is that the combination GPS and constant Internet access in areas where the reception is poor drains the battery - my mobile went from 90% to 5% in a few hours on a 9-mile route. However, I learned that lesson very quickly! It's not a problem provided you remember to download the route you created (or imported) to your phone, so it's available offline. The trick is then to put your phone in aeroplane mode and reduce your screen brightness - you can still use the app, you can still see where you are (the GPS still works), and the battery still drains (GPS does that) but not nearly as quickly. I have now invested in a power bank to recharge the phone when needed, which I take with my on my walks.
