awful Christmas Day lunch at £139 per person
shocking Christmas lunch , in a poorly light dull room and the visit by Santa whose suit looked like it had been purchased in the 1/2 price sale in Poundland. the lunch ws disgusting served on a Childs size plate. 3 small potatoes, 1/2 carrot 1/2 parsnips and some salty turkey roll absolutely disgusting . understaffed with only 5 servers trying to serve 125plus people so obviously very very slow. no management to be seen they were probably counting there money. All in all a disgusting meal and a terrible hotel who have literally robbed every person who booked for the Christmas Day lunch. we will never ever use this hotel again and I urge anyone thinking of boooking an event or a meal here go to McDonalds and buy happy meal as there isn't much difference.
shocking and disgusting service
Very terrible customer service
Very terrible customer service. Rude staff
Gorgeous afternoon tea
Gorgeous afternoon tea! Lovely selection of teas and sandwiches. Scrummy scones and cakes too. The service was perfect and all in beautiful surroundings.
Worst wedding venue
I went to a wedding back in July, still have not heard anything from my complaints. I have contacted the venue multiple times to read my feedback and they have ignored it. To start it wasn’t so bad until I had one beer. I thought it tasted weird and then I had a bad headache and felt nauseous for the rest of the day. I never drank anymore after one beer. Then I left the wedding early as I felt so bad and went to my room. I went to get into bed and as I pulled the duvet back all the sheets came off, I had to make my bed before I could sleep. I needed some milk put in the fridge for my toddler as the room didn’t have a fridge, to wait at reception to fill out forms and it took over half an hour of the wedding just to do this. The next day my partner was throwing up all morning and he’d only had three beers. He couldn’t eat any breakfast because of the off beer, which is a good job really as there was not great service there. I attempted three times to get a cooked breakfast and there was no food. Finally on the fourth attempt I finally was able to get breakfast. We went to leave and check out. I searched for a trolley, no staff wanting to help me when I asked as we had two travel cots, two bags, a suitcase and a pushchair with a toddler to get to the car with just two of us. The only highlight of our stay was the meal at the wedding, couldn’t fault that. It was not a great venue as disorganised and had disgusting beer, I would avoid!
ILEFT A TERRIBLE TASTE IN MY MOUTH NEVER AGAIN!
I was fortunate to have received a gift for a stay at a particular hotel, inclusive of a spa treatment. My anticipation was high, given the positive remarks I had heard about the establishment. However, upon arrival, I was rather disappointed to discover that the initial room I was assigned was not up to the expected standards of cleanliness. The bedding appeared dusty, and the drapes were noticeably laden with dust particles. This situation was particularly concerning for me, given my preexisting asthma condition.
Following my concern, the hotel staff promptly relocated me to an alternate room. I proceeded with my birthday festivities as planned, attempting to put the initial setback behind me.
To my surprise, upon check-out, I received an email notification indicating an additional charge of £100 for the room, which I found unwarranted and unexpected.
This unexpected charge and the initial cleanliness issues cast a shadow over what was meant to be a joyful birthday celebration. Consequently, my overall experience left me with a rather unfavorable impression, and I have no intention of returning to this particular establishment. I would advise others to exercise caution and consider alternative options when making accommodation choices to ensure a more enjoyable and hassle-free experience.
Blue Room Christening Lunch
We booked our daughters christening lunch with the lovely sales team who couldn’t be more helpful & obliging. The planning team were so helpful.
Lisa was our function manager and couldn’t of been more helpful, she looked after us so well and made all of our guest feel so special. The service we received was second to none, the food cooked & presented perfectly & we found drinks to be very reasonably priced.
We really did have the most lovely time and would highly recommend for your next special event.

We went to Orsett Hall for the afternoon tea, the whole experience was lovely, the waiting team were very attentive and after we went for a walk around the grounds which are beautiful. Definitely recommend
Smiling welcoming faces
We @essexeventhire are regulars at this great venue, always service with a smile.
Supper
We came to supper and ordered cocktails from a c waitress, our mojito came in a tiny champagne glass and transpired to be according to staff a strawberry daiquiri! When we pointed out the raspberry on top no strawberry in sight and reminded staff we had ordered a completely different drink, the attentive waitress was replaced by a manager who treated us like we were morons, yes we can tell the difference between cocktails we do know a strawberry from a raspberry and an elderflower mocktail is not made from mashed raspberries. We left feeling that the staff clearly didn't like being pulled up on their mistakes and they clearly thought we were after a free drink. The staff here are burnt out, they forget we pay an extortionate amount for our meals, sarcasm and treating people like fools, they need a refresher course in charm and manners. No class
Wedding August 2022
We spent 3 nights at Orsett Hall for a family wedding in August 22 and could not have wished for a better experience. The staff were professional and attentive, a particular mention to the Wedding Planners and the very capable lady organising the serving staff at our Reception in the Gold and Blue Rooms. The young people serving were excellent, polite and very smart in their uniforms. The food was beautifully presented and very tasty. The evening buffet was plentiful.
We had a block booking of rooms and everyone was very happy with them. Clean and comfortable with plentiful towels and teas, coffees etc.
The grounds are beautiful , Orsett Hall is an excellent Wedding venue and we are very grateful to have such Happy memories of our daughter's Wedding day.
Thank you Orsett Hall
Our perfect wedding
We’d like to counteract the negative reviews as we’ve just had our perfect wedding at Orsett Hall! Everything was seamless and we felt really looked after the whole time. All our guests said how great the venue was and the food was delicious. Thank you especially to Tricia, Sara and Leon who helped us throughout and everyone else who looked after us in the Blue and Gold rooms on the day! Emma and Luke
This hotel is awful
This hotel is awful. The room which they called a suite was sub standard the bed was uncomfortable and the decor was also drab.
Dinner in the restaurant was awful for the price. We were kept awake by a green laser light in the room they say was a fire alarm never ever experienced that in a 5star hotel ever before. Continental Breakfast was disappointing not much to offer at all.
Will never return there again to stay. Stay away!! Terrible!!
A special graduation occasion, but certainly not the bar service.
A special graduation occasion, but certainly not the bar service.
Standing in line for 30 minutes just to get a drink was completely unacceptable. When I complained, the female duty manager on call was too busy to listen to my complaint but asked someone junior from her office to listen that complaint. It was her responsibility as duty manager in my opinion to action this, something that she didn't rectify. In the end I gave up waiting.
Regardless of how busy she was, my complaint wasn't actioned and the bar service remained poor to the extent that a large number of people at that graduation event, to include our party, simple didn't get a drink.
A well managed business is a good business, but when you put poor management in place, this is the sort of service you get.
By the way, just look at their responses to those negative reviews such as mine and others. They simple don't reply....
poor service & extremely disappointing.....
DO NOT BOOK YOUR WEDDING HERE!!!
DO NOT BOOK YOUR WEDDING HERE!!!
Had my wedding on the 11th June, one thing after the other with problems. Terrible communication, they made errors on our payments and ‘forgot’ to add certain things onto our final bill after going over everything in our final meeting and tried asking us for a extra £1600 a week before the wedding as they ‘messed up’. Bridal suite was shabby and blinds broken etc, may not sound major but when it’s a bridal suite your paying top prices and that room is used for the whole bridal party, photography happens in those rooms and these small things add up.
The day of the wedding it was around 24• and they had the radiators blasting inside the chapel, so everyone was unnecessarily uncomfortable with the heat. Came out to find our welcome drinks that we paid over £1000 for left on a table in the sun in jugs, beers were flat and warm and same for the prosecco.
Went in for dinner again aircon wasn't working and no one even thought to crack a window, kept lying telling us the aircon was on then later admitted there was a fault. My dad who was meant to be on the top table enjoying himself ended up opening all the windows himself.
Absolutely EVERYTHING I needed I had to chase. They don’t answer the phones so after hours trying and many attempts I ended up driving down to the venue to sort our final bits out which could of easily been done over the phone.
The place is run by children, at a wedding venue I expected experience waitress/waiters but instead we were served by children that had no idea what they were doing. My father in law had his gravy poured over him and my father didn’t receive his dinner until I got up and chased it. The dinner service was slow, I had to ask for the microphone for speeches about 10x and the turn around was slow and sloppy. The food tasted nice but most people didn’t even eat it as we were all so hot and bothered. Instead of having a laugh and enjoying our dinner we were all moaning and stressed out.
We had random hotel guest come in and drink from our free bar!! Luckily I noticed but god knows how many drinks they had that we paid for! Was quite obviously not part of the wedding party yet the bar staff didn’t question it!
I have done a complaint direct and heard absolutely nothing from the venue in return, which to be honest I’m not surprised. Such a shame as the venue is stunning and has so much potential but it’s really not worth the stress levels. Weddings are hard enough let alone when you have a incompetent venue to deal with.
After spending £5000 on the bar just that evening and probably around £40,000
In total I was denied a glass of water at the end of the night because the bar was shut. Bare in mind I was staying at the venue that evening. You don’t even get a bottle of water in your bedroom.
Breakfast the morning after was also gross, I asked for jam and they gave me a used little pot that had clearly a knife scratch with butter on. Dinner the evening before the wedding was also extremely slow.
Terrible service, terrible communication. I am so so sad that the ‘best day of our lives’ has been tainted by all of this. If only I could do it all again I Would steer clear and go elsewhere. They do not care in the slightest, the only time I ever heard from them was when they were asking for more money. The fact I sent in my complaint over a week ago and haven’t heard a thing is disgusting.
An absolutely Magical stay
Wow! Wow! Wow! We chose this absolutely stunning place for my mums birthday for a 2 day spa break. I could not fault anything!!!! And I'm fussy lol. The spa treatments were incredible and staff were happy, lovely and amazing at their treatments. They couldn't do enough for us. The rooms were super clean and idealic. The food was exquisite and the staff there were so attentive and professionally friendly. The grounds are truly an escape to the most beautiful wonderland of calmness. Can't wait to have an excuse to come back. Thank you to all the staff for going the extra mile and giving my mum a perfect birthday! Xx
Poor service
I had a very bad experience at Orsett Hall when I treated a friend to afternoon tea for her milestone birthday. The service was very poor so I emailed Orsett Hall about the service and how disappointed and let down I felt. Orsett Hall replied and informed me that they will investigate my complain and get back to me in 21 days, that was a month ago and I haven't had any reply. They are hoping I will forget about it. Very disappointed and I only gave them 1 star because there isn't anything below that. 😔
Still waiting on deposit refund it’s…
Still waiting on deposit refund it’s been a month been told I will be called back 6 times and still nothing now having to go through my bank to get the money back that they assured me would be back in my account in 7 days. This is the case for all of the rooms they took a deposit from us for .
Uncomfortable and disappointing spa
Was quite disappointed with the Mini Spa Day with Afternoon Tea. We had a last minute booking which was very disorganised and difficult as you couldn't get through on the telephone to check any details and they didn't email when they said they would. The afternoon tea was nice and enjoyable. Unfortunately the spa does not match up to other spas I have been to. The pool was cold, so we did not use it. There were only hard back chairs to sit on round the pool, no loungers at all. I have a bad back so this wasn't very comfortable. There is a relaxation room which consists of 2 beds and 3 upright chairs (not enough for the amount of people in the spa). The sauna and jacuzzi were fine but the steam room was unbearably hot. You are supposed to have a personal consultation before your treatment. They give you forms to complete about your health. It wasn't until I was undressed and lying on the massage table that the girl told me she couldn't do my massage due to health reasons. I was unaware, and this should have been pointed out to me before I even entered the room. It was an embarrassing situation and it ended up with me just having my nails painted instead. My friend had never been to a spa before and it was a shame that this was her first experience of one.
Disappointing
We visited for a “mini spa day” which was advertised as afternoon tea, a treatment and full use of spa facilities.
It was not afternoon tea. It was one sandwich and some crisps and a dessert. Do not go expecting anything fancy, or what an afternoon tea is usually.
Visiting the spa itself, it was clean and a nice atmosphere whilst waiting, the changing room is very small and no private cubicles to get ready in, just one small bench you have to crowd around and essentially get naked in front of strangers, which not everyone is comfortable with. The shower heads also do not stay in place to prepare to dance around trying to catch the water!!
I had a back neck and shoulder massage which was nice, my friend had a facial and was disappointed as she was talked to throughout by the therapist moaning about her job and couldn’t essentially switch off.
When going to use the spa facilities, the jacuzzi was out of service as was the sauna so that’s half the facilities we could not use. It is a fairly small sized spa and they definitely had booked too many people for it to feel comfortable and we struggled to get a seat around the pool ( no loungers just chairs). As for the relaxation room this is essentially a room with garden furniture in with lasers on the ceiling, again with only 4 chairs in, so not enough room to be able to get in or feel comfortable enough to relax.
I did email the spa after to highlight these issues that did not meet expectations or worth what we paid for, I was met with a defensive response and told the sauna was working….if the sauna has no lights and is cold then maybe yes?!
Would not return, and not impressed with customer service or offer of reimbursement. Currently waiting for a response from management. We paid £76 to eat a sandwich and sit around a cramped small pool. Disappointing.
I'm rating this on the experience of…no response to an enquiry
I'm rating this on the experience of not having stayed here. I have called several times, the voice message tells you to email if it's urgent, I did just that, to-date I have not received any response to 3 voice messages I've left and my email - I thought the leisure industry had suffered severely over the last year, they obviously do not want business and quiet frankly if this is their stance now, what would the actual spa day experience be like. Give it a miss, I am and I will take my business elsewhere!!
