Unfortunately, this product caused a serious digestive reaction. I have read many reviews about the toxicity of rapeseed oil on human consumption and fail to understand why this product includes it in the recipe.

Was given a box as a Christmas gift. Have ended up feeding this 'traditional shortbread' to the birds. It looks like shortbread, granted, but that's as far as the similarity goes. Dry and not a hint of buttery flavour. Without doubt the worst shortbread I have ever tasted. Packaging is very appealing, taste is not! To even describe it as 'traditional shortbread' is totally misleading.

Absolutely terrible. Tasted like raw flour no butter taste at all worst shortbread ever. Does this company not read reviews.

Absolutely disgusting weirdest taste and horrible after taste nothing like short bread at all , dont know how they can call it that, binned it. The rest of the family felt the same.

Truly awful. How on earth does anyone make a biscuit this bad? Has anyone from the company ever actually tried one? If they had surely they would come to the same conclusion

How on earth is this number one best selling brand of shortbread??? Marketing at its finest but seriously don't buy this product it is terrible, in fact I think that the cardboard box would taste better. Even the dog wasnt keen on the shortbread finger, that says it all.

Really bad quality shortbread. How can you possibly classify these as shortbread when you can't even taste the butter?? Definitely the result of using more oil than butter to cut down on costs and maximise profits.

You're better off buying supermarkets own brands as they'll taste much better than these. I honestly thought they had gone off when I first tried them but they still had over 6 months shelf life left. Avoid at all costs!!!

Disappointed in Dustbread

I almost want to give this no stars. I bought a packet in Australia at a gourmet food shop which retailed at $8.00 Australian Dollars (I don't know the conversion!) and it was truly disgusting, the worst biscuit I have ever tasted. The humble Arrowroot biscuit was 15 x better than the powdery tasteless chalk masquerading as shortbread. Like a reviewer below - I too felt compelled to leave a review as no doubt many other people are going to jump on google to try and find an explanation for what they just ate as did I. I genuinely believe they forgot to add the sugar and butter and they should really consider a recall of goods.

For those of you intending to leave a finger or two for Santa this Christmas Eve, do the big man a favour and put out a Tim Tam instead.

Honestly I bought these because they were in Tesco on a £1.00 a box. They are tasteless not even sweet or any butter taste to them. I had to google because I honestly thought it was the value range

Worst shortbread I’ve ever had. Really hard and tasteless. No taste of butter whatsoever and it doesn’t melt in your mouth like a shortbread should. Not even the tea soften them out.
Lidl shortbread is less than 1€ and it’s much better. Well, any shortbread is better than that. Never buying this again. Big, big waste of money!

Box was not full opened up packet and 3 or more biscuits were missing from the tray there were just gaps otherwise the biscuits are great quality and taste great but are sometimes overpriced .

This stuff is so bad that I felt compelled to write about it. It tastes just awful not like a shortbread whatsoever. Then you read the ingredients and find soy and rapeseed oil in it! I ate two out of a large box and threw the rest in the bin. Rubbish.

I used to buy Patersons products and recommend them to friends whilst perusing the cracker aisle at the local supermarket. Until, that is, they started changing the recipes. They made the best oatcakes when they used olive oil as an ingredient. Now it's sunflower oil. Their shortbread has also become the worst, least edible of all shortbread I've eaten. Instead of using butter as tradition requires, it's now the dreaded and ubiquitous rapeseed oil (Canola), which depending upon who you believe, is not as good for you as the market claims, and some say is even seriously bad for you. Patersons shortbread's taste and texture now more closely resembles the cardboard packaging it comes in. The box I bought recently was so bad that I ended up feeding it to the birds, and even then only the Jackdaws ate it! It's a shame, because you can find traditional butter-based shortbread for a fraction of the price in the low budget supermarkets that is infinitely better.

No doubt the company are pandering to the low unsaturated fat propaganda we hear ad nauseam from all corners of the market, and whilst I understand the need to be 'competetive' in business, my feeling is they have compromised the integrity of their products for the sake of sales (although it remains to be seen whether such changes actually translates into greater sales long-term, particularly when products just taste awful). I personally have now stopped buying Patersons - or any other products that contain rapeseed oil - for the above reasons.
