Even worse in 2026

Customer since 2014, and quite loyal for a long time, and this is probably my third review of them. Things went downhill since my last negative review back in 2023. Customer service is now horrific: empty pleasantries, 0 solutions. My account has been frozen for no solid reason. The excuse: "standard screening", they are asking for information regarding a commercial relationship with a client whom I've been working with and getting paid through Payoneer since 2020. I feel mistreated and disrespected. Dystopia is everywhere in 2026, also in the form of Payoneer's customer support and overall service.

Extortionate fees, lengthy processing delays

Payoneer claims that withdrawals "typically arrive on the same day", but that is a false claim. From my experience, withdrawals remain "under review" for anything from 24 hours to 4 days before being processed.

Withdrawals also involve extortionate uncapped fees, meaning that as a freelancer, you will find yourself graciously handing over >200 USD of your montly turnover to Payoneer for the simple task of transferring your hard-earned money from their bank account to yours.

Customer service is ensured by "AI bots", meaning that you will likely not get the answers you are looking for and that escalation processes will be fastidious at best.

Altogether, Payoneer strikes me as being a ludicrously overcharged payment service that offers little to no tangible benefits.

This is the most unprofessional and…

This is the most unprofessional and fraudulent financial platform I have ever encountered. I created a business account with them, provided all initial details, and out of nowhere, they permanently banned the account without asking for any further verification or providing a single valid reason.

Their customer support is an absolute joke. They operate like a scam company—there is no real communication, and whenever you ask a direct question, they ignore it completely or reply with generic, automated copy-paste templates. They have no ethics and absolutely no sense of how to deal with legitimate businesses. Total third-class service. Unreliable, untrustworthy, and completely useless. I want a senior compliance manager to contact me immediately and explain this nonsense

Disastrous support – Holding funds for an impossible transfer (Case: 260605-009059)

My transaction of 440.05 USD has been stuck under review since May 22. I have recently discovered that the recipient's account is completely BLOCKED by Payoneer. Therefore, this transfer is impossible to complete. I have repeatedly requested a cancellation and immediate refund to my balance, but the customer support keeps sending automated replies. This is severe financial negligence. Please check my Case ID: 260605-009059 and return my funds immediately.

Customer ID 17379378 - Stay away from payoneer

Customer ID: 17379378
Reference: 260529-003125

I have been a Payoneer customer for over 10 years.
In early June 2026 they initiated an annual KYC review and froze my account for two weeks. During this time I submitted every document requested — Upwork profile, LinkedIn, tax documents, invoices,
time tracking reports, client references — multiple times. Every response was the same automated template, as if nothing I sent was ever read.

The verification team asked me to publicly display my address and phone number on my Upwork profile —
information that Upwork deliberately hides for freelancer safety. This is structurally impossible for any Upwork freelancer to satisfy.

As a result I could not invoice my clients for two weeks, did not receive my monthly income, and had to borrow money from a colleague to survive, and even after the verification was done, they still hold my money over the weekend. My account restriction has now been lifted but my
funds are still held and I have received no response to my last two messages in over a week.

I escalated to VP of Operations filed with Upwork support, and have active external complaints. Ten years of loyalty and this is how they treat customers. VP didn't even bother to reply.

If It hadn’t been for Upwork, I wouldn't have moved forward at all. Last night, Payoneer told me my verification was rejected and then accepted within 2 minutes. And now one day later my payment is still pending.

Avoid if you're a freelancer, and in general just avoid and read related reviews touching on their pathetic Verification and seized funds. Don’t trust 5-star ones, I bet they are fabricated.

Payoneer support team only looks at tickets with no updates and considers mine (which has updates from me) as resolved, even though they've ignored me for a week. This is absolutely surreal. You get a no-reply replies from “support”. I bet none of these people even exist, it is like a simulation. Probably another AI implementation gone wrong. Please stay away.

A Never-Ending Cycle of Verification Requests

To anyone even remotely considerinng using Payoneer; think again!

Look at a company called "Wise" or other alternatives. I have a measly amount in my account and it's taken months and multiple emails and painstaking attempts to withdraw that money. It will never happen.

I messaged them this morning and expect to receive a generic response around verification documents:

This situation has now become completely unacceptable.

I have submitted the requested verification documents on numerous occasions — at least five to ten times — yet I continue to receive repeated requests for the same information. I recently noticed that my account had been re-enabled, only to be met once again with another request for documentation.

I am at a loss as to what further evidence I can reasonably provide to verify my identity!? To date, I have submitted copies of my ID, my passport, and a photograph of myself holding both my name and the current date, exactly as requested. Despite complying repeatedly with every instruction provided, the issue remains unresolved.

The ongoing cycle of document requests, without any meaningful explanation or resolution, is extremely frustrating and has consumed a significant amount of my time. I expect a clear explanation as to why the documents already provided have not been deemed sufficient, and I would appreciate confirmation of exactly what, if anything, is still required.

Please escalate this matter and provide a definitive resolution as soon as possible. I should not be required to repeatedly submit the same documents over and over again without any indication of what the actual problem is.

This is actually the most frustrating payment platform out there

This is actually the most frustrating and difficult payment platform. I've had to submit verification documents more times than I can count. They make it so much harder than PayPal, Wise, Starling, Tide and others. This is the only platform I've had them reject perfectly clear documents and give absolutely zero instruction on what was wrong and why documents were rejected. It's just a complete guessing game and an absolute waste of time. I only used it as a client requested Payoneer specifically but I'll be strongly recommending Wise or direct transfer from Starling in the future.

Care-Less Narcissistic company policies.

After processing payments for the last 11 years, my account got frozen until I provided documentation I already have in the past provided.

The documentation requested is not the norm and quite invasive. No other site or company demands these.

This freezing as though I had done something wrong inconvenienced an employee of mine needlessly who was counting on his routine payment.

You get an email from "customer service" but you can't reply.

You cannot get a human being on the phone. This in a day when phone calls cost next to nothing and hiring people from around the universe doesn't have to cost more than $5 an hour.

Bottom line, this is a crappy way to treat your customer.

Avoid this company

Avoid this company, especially as freelancer. I received a payment from a company I provided a service for, but Payoneer wouldn't release my money until they had performed an ID check. Nothing wrong with checking security. However, I submitted my passport 3 times, and each time they said they couldn't verify, and in the end they requested a different form of ID. At this point, they had been holding my money for weeks because their robot customer service is so slow. Now, I don't have another form of ID, so I asked for the payment to be cancelled and returned to the sender. Then I got a generic message saying "payments are non-refundable. Please contact the retailer if you are unhappy with your product". I got this message several times, the service bot just didn't understand that I am a service provider trying to receive a payment. After almost a month of back and forth with Payoneer and the agency, I finally got the transaction cancelled, so the client could pay me via a different method. Going forward, I will be telling clients that I do not accept payments via Payoneer.
