Wrong windscreen leaking

I purchased the transporter converted by platinum wave on the 15th of October 2024 and they gave me a warranty for one year for the van and three year for the conversion.
On a recent break away while in Cornwall it rained frequently and heavy. I noticed there was water dripping through the top centre console so I had to put some tape across the top of the windscreen.
After returning home I contacted platinum wave and explained the problem and mentioned that I found some screen glass under the passenger seat while changing a fuse which could only mean the screen had been replaced during or after the conversion. They said they had no knowledge of a screen been changed and I should contact TMO the warranty company. They told me it was not covered so I tried my insurance windscreen cover. No joy there so I had to pay up full for a screen change and if they could remove and reseal I would be refunded most of the money back.
The lads from Nationwide Windscreen Services came and took great care when removing the screen but as it was not fitted correctly they cut through an electrical connection rendering it unusable. They then showed me the lack of sealant around the top and also told me it looked like it slipped while they were fitting it AND it wasn’t even the correct screen. After contacting platinum wave numerous times they sent an email saying its wear and tear and not covered.
Now I’m £469.79 worse off and not happy.

Hi Andrew,
We’re sorry to read your review and apologise if we have not met your expectations here.
To clarify, the vehicle you purchased was a used Transporter which we converted into a campervan. The windscreen formed part of the original base vehicle — it was not replaced by Platinum Wave as part of the conversion, nor was there any record or reason for it to have been changed during our work.
Our warranty clearly covers the conversion elements we complete, not pre-existing or unrelated vehicle components such as windscreens. When you contacted us, our team correctly advised you to speak with the warranty provider and your insurer, as the issue related to the base van rather than our workmanship.
We appreciate your frustration, but it’s important to separate issues arising from the original vehicle from those covered under our conversion warranty. We stand by the quality of our work and the information provided at the point of sale.
We wish you all the best with your van and future travels.

Platinum wave experience

What ever you do , do not buy a camper van from these people, where too begin I seen campervan advertised on website so started the procedure in having a look at it , I went down too Coventry on a work day , I got there and was showing around the campervan, i put a deposit down and a couple of weeks later I picked it up , I started having problems straight away with the brakes , I thought I would check the last Mot only too find out it had 5 advisory’s all too do with the break system, as well as this the electric ‘s we’re playing up in the back so I couldn’t work nothing in the back , I also noticed 2 shades of different colours on campervan, I laid this all out too them and they give me a date 2 months later too bring it in , after a couple of weeks I was informed I could pick it up , so I set off on a work day again in a polo courtesy car and turned up at garage , I went too take it away but then the alternator went on it , so they brought it too me on the Saturday, I work away from home and use the campervan too stay in , I had too go into a b+b whilst they had it and I was reimbursed this , that time .
On having the campervan back for a couple of weeks the engine management light kept coming on , and also the ad blue warning light , it was coming up fault on plug in, I contacted platinum wave but again it took 4 months for them too eventually see it , I took it in and was told I would have it back in a week, only too be told on the Friday that it needed a new ad blue tank and I would have too wait for it too be ordered and delivered, I asked them that I needed reimbursed my B+B money as I’m now well out of pocket only for them too tell me they can’t do this so now I get campervan back and engine management light comes again so I plug it in and it’s the same code , I have taken it too a friend and he has looked at it and up too now fingers crossed I haven’t had any problems.
I have lost out of pocket with the length of time it was seen too so my warranty is expiring soon as it take them so long in getting back too you , I am out of pocket as none of this was my fault but I forked out for B+B and I haven’t been offered the money back .
I would just like too say this is my experience with platinum wave and I would not like anybody go through the same experience I’m going through it still not finished with as now I have a ombudsman looking into them .

Dear Grahame,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. While we’re genuinely sorry to hear your ownership experience hasn’t met expectations, we wanted to respond directly and transparently to clarify a few key points.

We accept and apologise there was a process failure with regards to the handover of your vehicle ,we took your concerns seriously and did arrange for the vehicle to come back to us to get these resolved with all warranty-eligible work that was identified — including the MOT advisories — completed at no cost to you. We also reimbursed your B&B accommodation for the first occasion as a gesture of goodwill.

Unfortunately, with the vehicle having over 110,000 miles on the clock upon purchase, some degree of wear and tear is expected and regrettably this happened with the AdBlue system, which was diagnosed and repaired under warranty once the appropriate part became available, (this was on backorder with VW which caused a delay)

Your cover remains active, as detailed in your warranty documents which have been previously emailed over to you.

We fully understand how inconvenient it is to be without your vehicle, and we’re sorry for the disruption. While this experience was clearly frustrating for you, our records show we’ve acted in good faith throughout and taken ownership where required. We hope, now that the vehicle is functioning as expected, you’re able to enjoy it as originally intended.

All the best,

Platinum Wave Automotive

Well earned 5 star review

Having visited many camper sales companies, I can speak with some authority! Platinum Wave are wonderful. The service is outstanding; nothing is too much trouble. The team are knowledgeable, dedicated and super friendly. My camper is drop dead gorgeous and the interior is just perfect. It's been more than a pleasure to deal with them and they've earned my 5 star review ten times over.

Platinum Wave are certainly one of the…

Platinum Wave are certainly one of the top campervan converters in the UK. Bought my 6.1 LWB DSG brand new on 71 plate already converted by them. Top quality used everywhere. Only thing I changed was the suspension as it wasn't up to the job.
After several months, took it back for a few changes and a couple of warranty issues and was all sorted perfectly, no questions and no cost. Very helpful, fantastic factory and generally all round good guys. I do recommend them when I can and would go to them again.

Poor installation & Poor aftersales

We purchased a T6.1 DSG SWB campervan from Platinum Wave and decided on upgrading the van with some additional extras. Specifically the Adventure Pack (Reimo Rail, Night Heater & Solar panel) for an additional £2000. Total value of the vehicle was £64490. The solar panel stopped working in September 2023, just 16 months after Platinum Wave installed it.
I had a local auto electrical company that specialises in campervan and motorhomes perform a diagnostic of the solar panel and associated wiring. They confirmed that the solar panel wasn't working at all and that water was ingressing into the pop top via the wiring points. Luckily I store my panda mattress in the pop top and this appears to have prevented any significant issues related to water ingress into the living area or further down towards the electrics (although the £140 mattress is a write off).
Due to the distance I live from Platinum Wave site it wasn't feasible for me to drop the van off without incuring a loss of a day's holiday and a 3 hr round trip so I therefore instructed my local campervan specialist to replace the defective solar panel and remediate the source of the water ingress (solar panel wiring entry point in the van roof) at a cost of £630 + one £140 mattress. I also asked them to record and picture the issue so I could inform Platinum wave of the problem with the defective panel and poor standard of workmanship on the installation.
Platinum wave have made an offer of £315 towards the overall £770 cost I have incurred to remediate the defective equipment and poor installation from their campervan technicians.
Currently there is no valid explanation from Platinum wave as to why a panel should fail at only 16 months but the poor quality installation which has allowed water ingress is the main contributing factor. I understand some components on vans are subject to mechanical wear and tear and degrade over time but the cause of this issue is poor installation which then led to water ingress and the subsequent failure of the solar panel. The only positive is that the water damage caused by the water ingress wasn't more significant in the living area.
Its all pretty disappointing from Platinum Wave after spending such a considerable amount of money with the company. I definitely won't be a returning customer. I intend on sharing the same honest objective review on the VW Transporter Facebook community pages so current campervan owners are aware of the standard of installation and aftercare offered by Platinum wave.

Dear Stephen,

At Platinum Wave Automotive we take great pride in our VW Conversion build quality and aftersales for all customers. We are saddened to hear that your experience that you have had has led you to give us a 1 star rating.

As you are aware, you had raised your issue with the solar panel 16 months after purchasing your van from us and 4 months outside of your conversion warranty period. We review all warranty claims within and outside the period of conversion warranty and each claim is treated individually.

The member of staff who would have fit this panel is no longer with the company and will have fitted 75+ Panels during his time spent here, this is the first time that we have ever seen anything like this occur and it is difficult for us to understand how this could have happened.

Although you are currently out of conversion warranty with us, we wanted to try and be supportive by offering to cover 50% of the work required to install a new solar panel for your van which you had accepted.

Kind regards

I just purchased a secondhand camper from PWA and I have to say I have had a great experience. Bart was amazing and even when there were a couple of items raised with the vehicle, Bart made me feel at ease and swiftly resolved everything. I cannot thank Bart and his colleagues enough for helping me get my dream camper!

The best by far

The best by far! We visited a few main converters around the midlands/shropshire area and were straight away impressed by the way we were dealt with by Platinum Wave. We felt comfortable and at ease with Alan and the team, who were very patient with us, nothing was too much trouble. We couldn’t be happier with our campervan, the quality of the conversion is excellent and the after sales is also excellent. We would not hesitate in recommending PWA to anyone who is looking to start their campervan journey. AJ and JR

Can't recommend enough!

The whole process from start to finished was absolutely brilliant. No pushy sales and nothing was ever too much trouble. Like everyone, looked into a number of conversion companies before choosing Platinum Wave, but couldn't be more pleased with the build quality and customer service from them. Many thanks to Alan, Rea and the team. Held off writing this review until after our first trip and can honestly say, the van didn't disappoint!!

After 20 years experience owning…

After 20 years of experience owning several motorhomes, this was my first experience buying a campervan. Dealing with Platinum Wave Campers was like a breath of fresh air compared with all the various motorhome dealers I have purchased from in the past. The sales staff at PWC were not pushy and it was obvious that Daniel Boyle, the director took a personal interest in making sure the customers were genuinely happy with their purchase. We purchased a vehicle from the 'Ready to Drive Away" stock. Although the base vehicle was 5 years old it looked immaculate, the conversion itself was brand new with a quality indistinguishable from any of the newer vans. We paid for a couple of extras to be fitted and picked the van up a few days later. Within a day of arriving home, we had a small but important issue that would require the fuel tank to be dropped to fix. I sent an email to Dan and within five minutes he phoned me to confirm that it would be dealt with quickly. Two hours later Gabriel, the Conversion Centre Supervisor, had driven the 50 plus miles to my house and took the van back to their workshop where the issue was fixed in less than 24 hours. When the vehicle was delivered back to me it had even been topped up with diesel at my local garage so that it was returned full. I have grossly simplified this experience but throughout the purchase and during the solving of the issue, both Dan and Gabriel went far beyond the level of service that I had come to expect when purchasing a leisure vehicle. I am very happy with my purchase and would have no hesitation recommending this company to those thinking of purchasing a newly converted VW campervan. Well done lads!

Recently purchased a T6.1 conversion

Recently purchased a T6.1 conversion. Fantastic interior high spec finish. Very pleased with the quality of the workmanship and the knowledge and professionalism of the sales team. I had a few questions after getting the van home and trying a few things out, Joe answered all of my questions very thoroughly apart from one which he wasn’t too sure about…. So he contacted VW direct and came back with the answer! Great vehicle and a very fair price. Thanks again guys (and gal)

I’ve had my PWC camper 2 years now and I’ve got to say it’s the best thing I’ve ever brought my wife and I have had so much fun in Gracie and any one thinking of getting a camper van these are the people to get one from, and the after care was fantastic from Will and team. PERFECTION

Bought my first camper from PWC. Excellent communication throughout. I was kept upto date all of the way and when the day came to collect my new van they went out of there way to collect me from the train station, had a brew waiting (im a Yorkshire-man so this means a lot) for me along with my shiny new camper.

These are by far the greatest and easiest vehicle dealers ive ever experienced. I would 100% recommend.
