Please please… if you value your education, try a different provider.

Condescending, incoherent, confusing, unprofessional are some of the more publishable adjectives that I would use to describe QA.
After 2 years of study with this company, I can no longer sit through any more of these ‘workshops’ (a ‘workshop’ being: an online lecture where the lecturer reads from a Power Point slide, provides nonsensical answers to questions, and sets up to three confusing breakout sessions with other confused students who are expected to present back their findings to the main session).
Another aspect of QAs terrible apprenticeship is the Study Coaches. A mandatory but pointless tick-box exercise in which the ‘coach’ is required to dispense advice from their extensive experience.
As a senior manager in an organisation of c.5,000 employees (a large number of whom are, or will undertake apprenticeships), it is worrying to think that providers such a QA are churning out such low quality education into the workplace.
Perhaps I am being a bit too harsh… as a 50 year old, the apprenticeship was probably not the best route for my educational requirements but, I can only judge based on my experience and observations.
I would definitely urge those considering QA as an option, to widen your search to other providers. There must be better quality apprenticeships than this!
If you are already studying with QA and are concerned about the quality of your education, challenge them, and raise it to the attention of your employers apprenticeship manager.
The best of luck to you all!

Dear Chris,
We’re sorry to hear about your experience on your apprenticeship.
Across the QA Group, we want to make sure we’re listening to all feedback. Apprenticeships and Degree Apprenticeships are managed by a different team at QA (QA.com) rather than our QA Higher Education team, so we have shared your review with QA’s Customer Experience team for them to review.
We have also sent you a request for further information through TrustPilot – if you share your contact details with us, we can request one of QA’s team contact you to further discuss how this can be put right.
There is also a separate TrustPilot account for the team at QA.

Avoid at all costs

I have been studying with QA for 6 months now and I will soon be trying to move to a new provider.

If you're a company, do not use QA until they thoroughly review their processes and their staffing.

Tutors appear to have little to no knowledge of subjects they teach.

The materials they provide are not kept up to date or relevant

The workshop sessions are next to useless

They do not properly prepare your staff for assessments.

A number of complaints have been logged with a response which basically amounts to "It's not our problem, do your own research". As a student who has completed another degree and another Apprenticeship, QA are by far the worst provider I've had the displeasure of working with.

EDIT: This review was uploaded as the internal complaints procedure had no effect on the course quality.

Thank you for your update. So we can investigate and address the feedback you have shared fully, please could you email the QA Customer Experience Team on Customerexperience@qa.com with details including the programme you are studying as unfortunately we’re unable to submit a repeat request for this through TrustPilot. We want to follow this up and the information will help us establish the correct team within QA or QA Higher Education for us to share this feedback with, and to enable an internal review to progress.

Thank you for your feedback. We would really like to understand your experience further and want to ensure that your feedback is shared with the correct team within QA or QA Higher Education. To help facilitate this and so we can address this fully, we've sent you a request through TrustPilot for some further details, including the programme you are studying. I had a not so pleasant apprenticeship…

I had a not so pleasant apprenticeship with this company. It lead to being employed by a company that didn’t have a clue how to deal and treat an apprentice. I didn’t receive proper training and this lead to leaving the role/apprenticeship early. The company is awful to communicate with. Furthermore, personal tutors aren’t very helpful either. I felt very mislead with my experience with QA. I would definitely look at other apprenticeship companies/agencies such as BALTIC Apprenticeships. They seem to have their heads screwed on.

Thank you for your feedback. Apprenticeships are studied through QA (qa.com) and not part of the QA Higher Education team’s remit. We have shared your feedback and review directly with the QA customer services team. If you would like to further discuss your experience, we recommend contacting Customerexperience@qa.com who will be able to direct you to the appropriate member of QA staff.

I have learnt nothing

2nd year of degree apprenticeship with QA as part of a large, well known software company. To sum up my experience:

* Course material is irrelevant to my job/degree. Why am I learning about program management and data analytics when I am a software engineer?
* Course material itself is both poor quality and poorly delivered. It is high level to say the least, and the instructor quality is very variable. Some are very knowledgeable, some struggle to read from a powerpoint.
* God help you if you have to deal with QA's admin. I'd rather try to draw blood from a stone then email QA to get a problem fixed (there will be many)
* Assignments are very poor. Nobody really knows what to write for them, and the lecturers have even less of an idea. Rubrics provide no useful info.
* On multiple occasions, assignment feedback has been completely wrong for everyone in the class. The feedback and marks given are often detached from reality, as if they have been made up on the spot. Good luck trying to get it remarked - it has taken over half a year for me.
* QA have a dire shortage of instructors. This is partly why their quality of service is so poor.
* All of this feedback, and more, has been sent off to QA, and escalated by managers/program leaders. I have yet to see anything change.
* I can confidently say that I have learnt nothing from the 1.5 years I've been on this degree apprenticeship. In fact, it has been a net negative, as time spent wasted on irrelevant assignments could have been spent learning on the job.
* I advise never working with this company IF you want to learn something. The silver lining is that, since the assignments are such a joke, you can get by by skipping all of the lectures and spending a day on the assignment (once every 10 weeks). Less work then a traditional degree, but you learn nothing and have to fill the gaps yourself.

Pros:
* Certain memebers of staff go agaisnt the grain of the company and try to provide a good experience. They are few and far between.

I am convinced that QA are running a pseudo-scam here - provide the lowest quality of 'degree level' education possible, and pocket all of the money that should be spent on teaching staff and resources. I would buy some shares if I could, but I doubt they would ever arrive.

Terrible education

I joined a very good employer on a software engineering degree apprenticeship delivered by QA.

From the very start QA has been disorganised. We as students don't know what we needed to do and when.
It feels like they're making it up as they go along.

The rubric for assignments is just not clear on what is required and questions to tutor(s) regarding this do not result in clear answers.

Quarterly meetings with the QA tutor is basically an hour with me and my manager sat there watching him copy and paste.
Total waste of time.

My employer and I have given QA over 3 months to improve and yet no improvement is evident.
For this reason, I'll be resigning from my apprenticeship tomorrow as I refuse to undertake a degree that's totally disorganised and utterly unclear on what it is that students need to do.

I'll also be writing to the University of Roehampton (the degree awarding institution) about QA's academic standards (lack of).

----------

Update:
Still haven't received a phone call as at 08/02/2023

Update 02/04/2023:
The programme leader did not reach out to me and although the "Head of Quality" e-mailed me, I received no further response despite replying to his e-mail.

--------

Update 16/10/2023

This was never put right, and the "Head of Quality" never had a conversation with me as promised.
All 'hot air' and empty promises from QA.
Potential apprentices are strongly advised to find a better provider of software engineering apprenticeships.

This is a crime

If I could, I would not give them even 1 star. Two years ago started my course with them, but after one year, I decided to change University, and everything began. QA was telling me that I had no chance to go to my chosen university, they had thousands of stupid excuses not to let me go there where I want, but I did it. Anyway, I have confirmation from QA about my resignation and withdrawal of my application from the course. Unfortunately, they are blackmailing me for 2 years that I have to pay for my study even if I am not their student!!!!!!! Joke! I am thinking of taking them to court as this is a crime. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THEM!!!!!!

I'm a student who applied for USW for September 2022 intake. Without proper instruction they asked me to pay even before the Pre CAS. There staff are sending different emails and they them self don't know the procedures. One say No interview and the other sends an email saying there are two interviews.
I submitted my deferral letter in September and there executive hasn't checked the email and first tried to put the blame on me. When I sent them a screen shot of my sent email he apologised. Still I have not received my CAS.

Quick to take my money and request payment but when it comes to providing me with what i paid for - nothing. I have spoken to numerous people; Leana, she did nothing other than ask for payment despite me having paid; the account manager George, promised to get me an invoice and access to my account - nothing. I cannot recommend this company since it has failed to do anything beyond taking my money. I now plan to do a chargeback on my credit card to get my money back

I have enjoyed every minute spent at…

I have enjoyed every minute spent at this University ! I agree, there is plenty to do for improving the status quo, from customer service to the recruitment of the lecturers, from the content of each subject and the techniques used for teaching, to the value of feedback received from the tutors.
I am used to be positive and to enjoy every second of my life. If the tutors do not tell me everything I want to know at a certain moment, then I read more and observe more and memorise more. I shall quote Socrates 'I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think'.
The tutors from QA University made me think.

Recommendation for previous, current, future students : read more and enjoy your life.

By writing this review

By writing this review, I do not aim to judge or criticise but instead I would like to raise awareness, specifically, to the management department of QA to seriously begin reviewing its operational practices and the Turnitin feedback system if they really wish to ‘improve’ the services they provide to the students.
I am ignoring the fact that the feedback provided under the ‘comment section’ in Turnitin appears to be with spelling and grammar errors, which supposedly, is written by “qualified professionals” holding a degree in PhD etc., but I would like to highlight that the comments are completely irrelevant and do not match with the course work provided by the student. To clerify what I am trying to say, I am going to use an example from a recent feedback I received, which states, that “the student has used a very limited sources of academic literature in order to support their points in the report”. Once I have read that, I left with the impression that whoever professor (PhD, MBA, MSc titles) has checked my work, either did not read my work at all and just copy and paste their comment from another student’s work or they simply lack the competence of accurate judgement on academic resources. I am a student in year 3 and I am absolutely aware and well-familiarised with the use of a wide range of academic literature. I have dedicated a sufficient amount of time to research and present the information required for the report and have used a solid amount of academic journals, books and websites which all have been referenced accordingly. However, not according to the person who marked my work.
As I mentioned earlier, I am not here to criticise, but hopefully to raise attention to the relevant team who is responsible for the quality management procedures etc. in this organisation. My advice is, instead of bombarding the students, every semester, with useless feedback surveys, which eventually are ineffective and probably end up disposed, start focusing on the performance review system of whether the professors employed for the job are actually doing the right job as required.
I doubt that we (the students) receive value for money and I think that it is not fair.

Reply from QA Higher Education

Dear Katrin, we appreciate your feedback and are sad to see that you have not chosen to tell us of your concerns whilst you were on the course, so we could have discussed it with you at the time.

With regard to the coursework feedback our academic team have provided you with via Turnitin, I can reassure you that our academic team are indeed qualified professionals with a minimum of a Masters degree and in many cases a PhD. They all have significant teaching experience before they join us and subject-related work experience too. With regard to the feedback on your assignment work, I sincerely apologise on behalf of the academic that marked your work for any spelling and grammar errors which may have inadvertently made their way into the comments. When providing feedback our academics aim to give a high level of detail and richness of reflection for learners. Our hope is always that the feedback itself is beneficial to students in developing their abilities.

I am sorry to hear your comments about one example of feedback. I can assure you that the academic will have most certainly read your work thoroughly and has the competence to give an accurate judgement on how you have used the academic resources you relied upon. We would expect students to reflect upon the feedback provided from our academics and consider how they might better utilise academic sources in future. The academic will have made their own judgement having been clear on the standards expected and provided feedback accurately to what they have read. We also have moderators that take a sample of work and check that the marking is in their view accurate and this is always monitored. We offer opportunities for students to discuss the feedback they receive in more detail with the academic who has marked their work should they wish and we would have most certainly been able to do this if you had let us know about this at the time.

If you would like to discuss the issue with me directly, please do not hesitate to respond to the email I recently sent to you. I am happy to discuss any concerns you may still have.

I wish you every success in all your future endeavours.

John Howell, Dean of Business and Management faculty.

Don't even think about going here if…

Don't even think about going here if you honestly want to learn for your future. I'm not saying everything entirely is wrong there, but for an institution that takes 9k for a year the incompetence level is unacceptable. They have some good lecturers, but 50/50, in this case, doesn't qualify. Again, it is a large amount they charge for being able to study, but it's insane how many times the lecturers come unprepared and late. Last year my group had one module where every lecture we had a different person to teach us, so the whole thing ended up rubber-banding back and forth, essentially going nowhere for the most part. It was extremely disruptive and felt like we, as students, aren't appreciated at all. We are in the second year and believe me it's just as good. That is very depressing, when, in fact, students should feel secure about their future.

Stay away

I don't think QA should carry on like that. I pay almost £10000 per year but I do not get even proper educational materials (I can show you what do you provide to students if you are not aware of it) We, students, have been asked by a tutor to search Google for three hours a day for the first four weeks of the semester! Then the tutor disperse classes even 2 hours earlier. The tutor is playing with her phone instead doing her job. QA, do you want more details? Just email me back. You can't expect people to pay for their education and then give them the opportunity to Google search - it is not a preparatory school. What is this? Another Mickey Mouse diploma mill? Where are the standards?
