How does Rakuten work?
Getting Cash Back rewards from Rakuten is easy. Simply sign up for a free account, and then start shopping on the Rakuten website, through the Rakuten app, or by downloading the Rakuten browser extension. Money gets added to your Cash Back balance when you shop at an affiliate store. You can then get paid via PayPal or check. If it seems too good to be true, here’s how it works: Companies in Rakuten’s affiliate network pay us commissions whenever one of our members shops with them, and we share those commissions with you as Cash Back.

What stores can you shop at?
Many stores and companies are part of the Rakuten affiliate network, from big-box stores such as Target and Walmart to websites such as Hotels.com and Upwork.com. Rakuten is expanding to all sorts of businesses so you can make money while eating at restaurants, planning trips, and fixing your car. Download the browser extension, Rakuten Cash Back Button, if you want to stay up to date on all the stores you can earn Cash Back with. It will highlight available offers in search results and alert you to store sites that are part of the affiliate network.
When will I get Cash Back?
Rakuten members get their earned Cash Back every three months. Stores will verify with us that the order was complete when you purchase with them, which can take a few hours to a few days, depending on the store. Once the purchase is verified, we’ll let you know Cash Back has been added to your account. Any order that’s still pending on payday will be added to the next payment cycle.

I’ve used Rakuten for several years. They offer a wide variety of Brand Names and Stores I frequent regularly. It’s simple to use, and just a click to same store links you would go to directly. It’s a great way to get money back while shopping.

Dishonest policies and lack of follow-through on promotional offers through vendors (Scheels.com).
Participated in a Black Friday offering Scheels.com had with Rakuten for 15% off all purchases (excluding the typical items [e.g., gift cards, ammunition, firearms]).
Made a significant purchase, over $1800 to only be 'disqualified' on the promotional transaction after 3 months of jerking me around.
Shadey company with false offers. I even have a $100 bonus from them to try and offset the false promises and I don't even want it.
Highly recommend finding another place to spend your money!

I used their cash back for years and…
I used their cash back for years and years, until finally, a year ago, they stopped posting my earned amounts. I contacting them about everything I earned staying in pending, and they gave me canned responses, and I never got any of the money I earned. They cheated me out the cash back I should have earned, or could I earned had I switched to another cash back program. It's not just me. Look around and you'll find that many people have been deprived of the cash back they rightfully earned in the same time period. They have stolen HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS from me. Disgusting.
Edit: I deleted my account, and yet I am still be spammed by almost daily emails. THERE IS NO WAY TO CONTACT RAKUTEN WITHOUT AN ACTIVE ACCOUNT. THERE IS NO OPTION TO CONTACT AN EMAIL ADDRESS. THEY FORCE YOU TO MAKE A NEW ACCOUNT TO CONTACT THEM ABOUT STILL RECEIVING EMAILS FROM AN ACCOUNT THEY CLAIM TO HAVE DELETED.
