Miscommunication ,incompetence and mishandling.

Immediately after my recent accident I made a claim with Safeco.
They stated I had to pay for my own rental car.I contacted our insurance broker who verified that we did indeed have $1000 coverage towards a car rental.
This was just the beginning of mishandling of our claim including deception, fraud and incompetence .
The official police report of my accident clearly stated that the other party was at fault.
Safeco said the opposite!
They did not even ask or read the police report when investigating my accident.
There are other negative aspects that occurred with this claim.
It is not worth the effort expounding on them here.
Everyone else has had similar devastating experiences.
We have asked our broker to find another insurance company .
Are they all this dreadful?
Thanks for your attention...

am sharing my experience to warn others…

am sharing my experience to warn others who may be considering insurance through Safeco Insurance.
My vehicle sustained suspension damage and was taken to BMW for inspection and repair. BMW’s service technician, service manager, and service director all confirmed that key suspension components were damaged and required replacement. They also explained that an alignment cannot be performed when suspension parts are damaged and that the type of damage present was not consistent with normal wear and tear.
Safeco’s adjuster, however, reported that the damages are from wear and tear and that only an alignment was needed. This directly contradicted BMW’s findings. When I disputed this, Safeco asked for BMW’s expert opinion regarding the cause of damage. BMW provided that expert statement, clearly stating the damage was not wear and tear.
After providing exactly what Safeco requested, communication stalled. My vehicle sat at BMW for nearly a month waiting for a claim decision, with little to no response from Safeco. When a supervisor went on vacation, the claim effectively stopped moving altogether.
Safeco ultimately denied coverage, relying solely on its own vendor’s opinion while disregarding multiple qualified BMW professionals and manufacturer repair standards. They later claimed additional evidence was required, even though it was never requested initially. This felt like shifting the goalposts rather than conducting a fair investigation.
As a paying policyholder, I expected timely communication, transparency, and a good-faith evaluation of all evidence. Instead, I experienced delays, poor communication, and what felt like a predetermined outcome designed to avoid paying a legitimate claim.
Based on my experience, I do not trust Safeco to handle claims fairly. I strongly encourage anyone considering Safeco to research claims-handling reviews carefully and understand what may happen when you actually need to use your coverage.

Useless!!

Have been waiting for 3 hours now for their road side assistance and apparently it can take up to 2 more hours. I have chronic health issues and really need to get home but I'm stranded in the middle of a highway...
I have called them repeatedly and kept getting transferred until some lady said she'll "try" to speed things up. Absolutely nothing changed after that.
I'm sure that if we didn't pay for our bills on time, they would be MUCH faster to react! Completely unacceptable.

Not transparent, support failed miserably

Tried to find out how my coverage went on windshield repairs/replacement. Support did not have the answer and she would not connect me with someone who did, as her boss did not know any more than she did, but still would not get me to a supervisor. I also requested a copy of my policy by email and never got it, to see what the deductible was. Still waiting! They need to pay service reps more to get better quality support for thier clients. If I had seen these reviews before switching to them, I could have avoided this company all together.

This company is the devil

This company is the devil. They took over liberty mutual who I was with for 4 years without any complaints or issues. The second they bought them out my coverage shot up by $100 a month, which they took out of my account without my expressed permission, as in I did not sign the new documents so I had no idea this was happening. Apparently them sending the documents is enough and I didn’t need to sign them…? Cool. Getting through to someone who can “help” is an absolute nightmare and guess what? They don’t help. I switched to Geico immediately who offered a policy at the rate I was paying with liberty. If you want to sign with safeco I recommend literally burning your money instead. It’s probably more satisfying.

After being hit head on by their driver…

After being hit head on by their driver (distracted on her cell phone) while I was stopped at a stop sign, with my son in the car, they had the nerve to say that I was 100% liable. Even though the police report clearly indicated what happened, and I had an eye witness, and their driver did not dispute it. They put me through he** going through subrogation. The arbiter of course determined their driver to be 100% liable. They cut me a check for 100% my out of pocket expenses, then put a stop payment on it and re-issued one for 80%. I had to dispute that once again, and only then did they apologize and reissue the 100%. The first claims person I dealt with that told me I was 100% liable, also told me that she was “God’s chosen.” I assume they fired her and got someone else, because someone else was later handling my claim. But she was equally incompetent. Avoid this company like the plague. They are grossly incompetent. And that’s putting it mildly.

Canceled by Safeco for filing a claim

Had a Safeco homeowners policy for over 5 years. Always fully paid each year. Safeco is now refusing to renew my policy because I filed 2 claims in the last 5 years. They are canceling me for using them as what they are… an insurance company. I guess it should not be a surprise.

AVOID

AVOID! They put their bottom line before the safety of their customers. They are forcing me to drive a vehicle that has a 3 inch crack (center of driver side) in the windshield because it doesn't meet their 6 inch criteria.... even though an attempt to fill it failed. Why is that these types of decisions in other industries sends people to jail, but insurance agencies can get away with it? I'm switching ASAP, even if it's more expensive.

Disappointed Customer

While Safeco initially appeared to be a suitable choice, I encountered
significant challenges with their customer service. The staff seemed
undertrained and were not particularly helpful. Consequently, I decided to
cancel my car insurance policy before its end date. Although I initiated a stop
payment request, Safeco issued a refund that was $2 less than expected.

Their customer service and billing departments were not clear in explaining the
discrepancy, attributing it to a "service account fee" despite the policy not
being renewed. After my bank approved the stop payment, I requested that the
refunded amount be reversed. Instead of resolving the issue, Safeco sent me a
bill for the full amount plus $2, making it an extra $4 for their service fee. I
highlighted that even credit card companies do not charge service fees when no
balance is due; however, this point was ignored.

Overall, I found Safeco's employees lacked competence, and their policies were
challenging. Despite a potentially higher cost, it may be worthwhile to opt for
an insurance provider that demonstrates reliability and effective customer
support. I recommend exercising caution when considering Safeco as a service
provider.

Bogus company.

Bogus company.. Stay away from them
I canceled my policy & was charged 35% shorting penalty. Just had the policy for 25 days in the 2nd term of the 6 month part annual and was charged $300. Paid $930 and received only $630 when I canceled in just 25 days. When asked about the formula how they prorated 25 days & what was the penalty, the customer care has no details, tried 3 times their customer care, they told me we don't know the formula and it is called shorting, one of the customer agent ridiculously asked me to Google the details about what's percentage and how it is calcuated.
It is like tomorrow they can deduct any money from someone else canceling the policy and just telling them it is shorting penalty.

Whatever amount Safeco want to penalize, I am fine with it but at least provide the details to customer how much was penalty and how much was pro rated charge for holding my policy for 25 days. How did it come $300 penalty.

The home insurance price was also insanely increased from $1999 to $3300 this year. Checked the market and got my home insured for just $1669 with more added benefits compared to Safeco. Clearly they are behaving greedy now, so get yourself a favor and stay away from this company.

Find someone else

We have been with these people for 8 years. We have time and time again asked if there was anything we could do to reduce the monthly cost of our insurance. Finally I asked for an itemized list of charges. Come to find out, we were paying for instead couldn’t even use because our cars didn’t even qualify for the benefit. When asked to have the money back, they refused. Years of wasted monthly charges. What a POS company.

RightTrack, designed to make you fail

Incredibly harsh scoring. Excellent scores are nearly unachievable. You will fight just to get your default 10% discount back. On top of that, the app gave me phantom events (14 in a single short trip). Customer support just reminds you that you confirmed the trip so it's your own fault. I think they are trained in apathy. If you ask for a manager, you eventually get an emotionless, self-assured email saying the same thing and promising they will do nothing to respond to your concerns.

LIVID!!!!!

LIVID!!!!!! I should be able to cancel my policy without going through my agent. If you can continue to change my policy every other month; I should be able to speak with a live representative and cancel my policy at anytime. The customer service line is nothing but an automated line that never transfers you to a live agent. I'm furious and hate this insurance company. This company is a fraud and is stealing money from the policy holders. At no point should my policy continue to increase every other month within a 6mon policy. What I purchased initially should remain until it's time to renew the policy. This is by far the worst insurance company I've ever dealt with. I would never recommend this company to my worst enemy. This company is the epitomy of trash. If ratings would start with a zero I would definitely rate it as such. Rating it as a 1 is giving too much credit for the lack of respect this company gives to it's policy holders.

The worst insurance company

My insurance was transferred from StateAuto to SafeCo through a company merger. They didn't notify me about the new policy in any way but instead doubled my premium and notified my mortgage bank. When I finally found out and called them, they had an address in my profile that was completely not mine. SafeCo should not be allowed to run a business because it lacks basic integrity and honesty.
