People have to stand up
--------------Initial----------
Half the passengers have to stand up every day of the week for 2 years at 5 pm on the trains going Zurich-Basel.
Let people book in advance through the SBB app when having the GA.
ADD MORE WAGONS.
Add more capacity.
It's an awful experience.
-----------------Update-------------
The 5p.m. train are still consistently over capacity, however the number of people having no seats has slightly improved.
A clear improvement has happened on the 6p.m. trains, which now seem to have more wagons than in the past.
Stuck on a train
Currently stuck on a broken train for more than 1.5h, close to no information when things will be resolved or any water or anything...
Edit: About 2-2.5h after the issue started our train was pulled back to the previous station. There was a train waiting for us there, so around 3h later than anticipated we arrived...

A real disaster
We have been travelling with a small baby and came back from Bern over Lucern where we had to change the train. We could not believe that our train was cancelled, so we had to wait one hour to catch the next one which we had to change train in Arth Goldau. The train was full and the wagon for the children occupied from old people, no place for us, the mother should feed the baby but no chance to sit and myself stand for the whole time. People had their bags on the sits never even ask if we would like to sit, not even the ones controlling the tickets are helping. Its a disaster, a real disaster, nobody has any respect anymore.
5 trains, all late or broken - Terrible Company
UPDATE 08/02/23:I sent an email to the SBB company describing my experience. One of their claims management experts got back to me. They resolved the situation as best they could and I will gladly give the company another chance on my next trip to Switzerland. Therefore I will change my rating from 1 star to 4.
I was told this company was the best and I shouldn't worry about a thing. Good thing I didn't believe it.
Our trip started on Saturday 21/01 at Basel Station, we arrived there 30 minutes before, the first train we took was broken and NO ONE came to let us know, all the passengers were waiting for more than 20 minutes until one of the passengers got out of the train for the seventh time to collect information and came back to tell us.
Second train still in Basel, BROKEN AGAIN, at least this time they had the decency to let us know.
The third train worked, but it happened almost an hour after we were supposed to leave.
On that train we were almost reported by one of the staff for being late, when I told them it was the company's fault they said it's ok.
Like this?? If I was the one who was late, I would have been fined.
On the way back to Basel on Saturday 28/01, the train in Visp was 20 minutes late. When we got on the train, we were told it wouldn't go to Basel because it was broken, but it worked fine until Bern, so I don't know how they continued for 1 hour with a broken train, but they managed not to finish the journey.
In Bern we were asked to change trains, we had to wait about 40 minutes for the next train to Basel.
We arrived in Basel 1 hour later than we should have. Therefore, we missed many activities that we were supposed to do there. I'm relieved I didn't trust this company to come back on the day of my flight. Would they pay for my new flight and hotel days?
Also, all the trains were filthy, I've never seen anything so dirty and smelly. The high price does not reflect the service provided. The website didn't do us any favours either, confusing and limited in information.
Sooooo BADLY designed
Sooooo BADLY designed. Prices are not immediately visible. AWFUL
Worst experience like what
Worst experience like what, activated my SBB easy ride went in to the train and the conducter was front of me and gave me a fine???? Because she said(old lady) yeah you just activated… me be like wha you just saw me coming in and giving me a fine what is that is that. That happened already awhile ago but you know whats sad. When a white guy (swiss male) comes in and he does that he get off just like that but me who is dark skinned get a fine this is so bad sorry but what kinda conducter get paid for doing nonsense work . Literally no common sense in this company overall.
value for money should improve
We travelled first class from st moritz to Zürich.
The seats were dirty as somebody had eaten previously and nobody cleaned.
In the restaurant many things on the menu were missing.
For the price charged, they should pay more attention on details. A lot of vegan and vegetarian options on the menu. 👍
This is the most confusing website…
This is the most confusing website ever. When I enter dates using the website's calendar tool, I get error messages. When I enter destinations, it returns information that says "towards" the name of some town I've never heard of, and "Eq. 1" "Eq. 5" etc. What the heck is all of that? It also gives options for "RE" "IR90" and some other stuff. What is all of that? How am I supposed to know what any of that means? And where are the prices? Why can't I see simple information from going to point a to point b? If you are not Swiss and already know what all of this is, you cannot figure out Swiss train travel.
SBB = Scammers
These guys get all the money in the world from tax payers.... Meanwhile they spend it mostly on overblown salaries for management. Now they are trying to scam people even more with their new subscription.
This company is a black hole when it comes to money. Good luck hitting climate goals while your public transportation is literally a scam.
Thanks again Fadri Sturz
There was about one hour before we took the Glacier Express to Zermatt, I find our I had loss our tickets. I could not remember any information about this tickes except our names. In the St. Moritz SBB office, a staff had spent 20 minutes could not fin our info in their system, she had to passed me to anther widow. A young man who worked at this widow, he not only found and printed out our ticks, he also corrected one of my booking mistake when I was booking. Let us able to boarded the train before 10 mounts its departure. If I miss this train, I Cann’t image how to continue the following trip that I had plan 2 months ago. The young man’s name is Fadri Sturz.
Discourteous customer service
Discourteous customer service. Preference given to Swiss nationals in order of service at customer service desk. Idiotic customer service system. When I asked why my number was skipped when I was on my way to the desk the customer service representative demanded to know why I hadn’t announced my arrival across the expanse of the large customer service hall. Swiss nationals were given the courtesy of sufficient time to reach the desk. After another ten minutes of being forced to wait in the queue a second time the representative was unable to operate the computer and tried to book my train for the day after I needed it, after which there were no more tickets available for the required date, as sufficient time had passed that the last one had been sold. SBB- A comedy of errors.
Pretty bad.
Trains are super expensive and unexpected time delays are pretty regular. Places to sit are not always available also.
Always a pleasure to pay crazy prices to travel late and unseated while the 1st classes wagons are empty.
2 class always overfilled while 1class…
2 class always overfilled while 1class wagons are mostly empty
Nightjet Amsterdam to Zurich nachtmerrie
Nightjet Amsterdam to Zurich
The horror show of Nightjet night trains
We booked our tickets in the ÖBB website based on the pictures you see there of new , comfortable sleeper trains.
The thing that pulled in into Amsterdam station was a dilapidated wagon from soviet times, which was actually operated or owned (not clear) by SBB (Swiss railway).
Once inside we were dismayed at what we saw. The compartment looked nothing like in the website of ÖBB. Old, dirty, poorly maintained. The window shade was broken. After pointing that out to the only staff member to be found, he said that ‘they would fix it in the morning’. ‘Well, that’s useful’ I said. We did the trip with a broken night shade, which means you get to see the bright lights of the train stations of half of Germany when you’re trying to sleep. No one slept. Breakfast mediocre. The train conductor was a kafkian type, with whom we had a surreal conversation, during which he mansplained capitalism to my wife and why management hates him and that we should complain and that complaining is useless because people still buy tickets. Like that. Try not to be shocked. When we settled in in our compartment and figured out its Spartan equipment we went to use the toilet. We could barely get in the restroom because we had to fight the ghost of urines past. What a stench! And this was at the beginning of the journey! The whole decaying wagon had not been cleaned since 1848 and we were actually told by the conductor that it could not be cleaned. He also informed us that the shade could not be fixed in Amsterdam even though the train is there the whole day because SBB has no maintenance personnel in Amsterdam. ‘This would be too expensive’ he said. Because Switzerland (SBB) is so cheap.
The return trip, which we had unfortunately booked had sane and helpful personnel, but was in the same dilapidated wreck. As could have been expected, the air conditioning did not work, which was just peachy given that it was the hottest July on record. We roasted overnight and on arrival the meat was falling off the bone.
And all of this fun for only 480€ per person per round trip.
NEVER, I repeat, NEVER AGAIN, EVER.
The Nightjet in all its forms can go to hell. Which it does on a daily basis.
Read the reviews of OBB in tripadvisor, which I should have done.
Absolutely woeful experience
Absolutely woeful experience, expensive, late, packed like a Delhi steamer, people sitting on stairs even on a Sunday. Avoid if possible.
Awful
Overpriced, NEVER space. Lousy!!!! They should be ashamed of themselves. Charging so much for such a shifty service and having TO STAND every timeI take a train. It's my 6th experience like this this year alone. Incompetent!!!!
The most horrible user experience I…
The most horrible user experience I have ever seen in a major website
Expensive for what it is
Very expensive for what it is. Yes, you can buy a half fare card, but that only makes sense if you are going to use trains a fair bit.
Newer trains are ok, but there are many old ones with pathetic or no air conditioning- often with windows that don’t open or only a tiny bit.
On the IR90 right now. No way to obtain drinking water. No restaurant car and no vending machine. Common occurrence.
And yes, Swiss trains are quite slow compared to most other European countries - even on busy and fairly flat routes.
Love that trains or post bus go absolutely everywhere. That is special. However, even for very busy intercity routes, the last train is very early.
80 swiss francs for a forgotten Halbtax
80 swiss francs for a forgotten Halbtax
So I have a halbtax and got the right ticket for that. But when it was checked I could only show the bill for it as my card was lost with my old wallet. They charged me 77.60 CHF just for not being able to show the physical card!!!
