I would not recommend SGS Engineering

I would not recommend SGS Engineering. I ordered the SGS 3 Tonne Long Reach Professional Service Trolley Jack | 2x 3 Tonne Ratchet Axle Stand totalling at £349.99 from their website to my friends garage I wanted to surprise him with a brand new jack for his garage. once the item arrived he advised me that the jack is way too big and he won't be able to use it. i immediately called SGS Engineering customers service asking for exchanging the item - they told me that they are not offering such a service. then i asked them if i can return the item and order a new one - they told me that they would not accept the return because for them this is a business to business order and they are not accepting returns from this type. I explained to them that i ordered this for my friend and it is me who ordered it but they refused to accept the return. for me it seems that they will try everything not to accept a legitimate return. i was planning to order more items from them but after that case i will never use them again and i would not recommend them to anyone. side notes: the items look completely different in person, the quality is not good and the service is terrible! avoid at all costs if you want quality products and customer service!

Consistently sending marking emails

I bought some products a few weeks ago from here. The products are fine and work well, my issue is the marketing emails. I didn't sign up to them and I have un-subscribed from them 3 time yet they still keep sending them. I'm now having to block their email address and probably won't buy from them again.

One star is to much

One star is to much, bought folding engine crane in 2020 from SGS engineering Derby it was low on hydraulic oil which is the main ingredient what a bad start. After phone calls i eventually received oil topped up to correct level approx. half a litre, still pretty useless rang help desk was told air needs purging out, i have been using hydraulic equipment for over 40 years and never had the need to purge air, but according to SGS air needs to be purged out of the system its their written rule and that will cure the problem, but it does not. I eventually had to lower the car to remove engine really not fit for purpose. Fast forward to 2025 drag out crane for refitting engine, air in system again as SGS recommends purge out air again does this and crane lifts 18 inches full of air again, purge out air again lifts another foot full of air again, it is now getting to dangerous to use. Look online and purchase a new equivalent proper hydraulic ram which is useable straight away, even though it as been lay on its side no need to purge as there is no air and oil is to the correct level.
Folding crane 5 star, hydraulic ram minus 5 stars.
SGS are definitely not bothered about returning customers. Peter Allsop

Lack of common sense

After making an order from a mobile device, I got a call from the courier asking about the address. My shipping address had pulled through the postcode from my invoice account. When trying to correct this with the courier and SGS I was told there would be additional fees. £45 to redeliver, even though I hadn't had an attempt and £100 for a return. The address was correct with a slight typo in the post code... no help from either....

Bought an SGS engine hoist off a mate, who had misplaced a few of the bits and bolts for it.

Gave SGS a call who didn’t have the bolts in stock for it, but the chap I was emailing very kindly gave me a full parts list so I could get them from my usual fastener supplier.

Ordered a hook which didn’t arrive as soon as I expected, made a call and there had been a hiccup with getting it sent out. Got a call back from a lovely lady on the customer service team within the hour who then dispatched another and I received it just after that weekend.

Everyone was genuinely really helpful and great to speak to.

Also have the 3 tier folding cart which is amazing.

Theft company

I bought a car jack from these bad traders. I bought it in the evening but I realized shortly after I had placed the order that it was not fully serviceable for my car. So, before 8am I tried to cancel it in writing and by phone but in vain. In both cases they replied that it was not possible because they had supposedly posted it and that they worked like Amazon in deliveries. I explained to them that I know how couriers work but in vain, they are determined to keep the money paid. I also read this in their terms of sale and returns policy. I promised them that they would enjoy a bad review and I am doing so. They told me that I could return it to them for a cost of 14 pounds, but that evening I received an email from the shipping company and they had received the package at 2.05pm. This showed me that they do not care about customers at all. In addition, they and all companies have discounts on their posts, but this company definitely wants to benefit something from the customer after they have paid, as they do not accept cancellations or exchanges (I asked them to buy another one) even once the purchase has been made. I recommend to anyone who is going to buy from this company to think twice or more after they have paid, so as not to expect miracles if something goes wrong.

Never order a thing from this company

I would never order a thing from this company. Called after placing an online order and misunderstood what I was receiving. After it was delivered, late & left at a different address (said free but when you put in postcode and click pay it adds another £14.99) I called and said I don’t need the Air tool kit as I explained over the telephone. I was told, sorry your mistake you pay to ship it back for a refund. They will not arrange this, can’t get it back from where it was delivered and it costs £40/£55 to ship it back anyway. Very unhelpful company I would avoid full stop.

Bought an SGS wet and dry hoover from SGS, and it's so perfect, it's light and manoeuvreable, which is great, picks up every cat hair, it doesn't block up
If you're thinking of replacing your hoover, buy this one

Bought a generator arrived damaged and not working, looked as though it had been a return it took a week to return the item received a new one asked for a discount was told in no uncertain fashion no. I would not use this company again customer service skills are shocking.

Poor Customer Service – Refused Return

I purchased an item online from SGS Engineering which turned out to be far too large and heavy for my intended use. I couldn’t even lift it. The product is completely unused and still in its original packaging.

I contacted SGS and offered to return it at my own cost for a refund. Despite this, they refused to accept the return simply because the order was placed as a “business transaction.”

This feels very unfair and unreasonable – especially as the purchase was made online with no way to assess size or suitability beforehand. Most reputable companies would allow a return in these circumstances, particularly when the customer is covering the return shipping.

I will not be buying from SGS Engineering again, and I’d caution others to check the small print carefully before ordering.

Customer service seems non existent. Purchased compressor and found cover was damaged in 2 places. Contacted SGS via email and via their website with no response. Not impressed at all.

Tanya and warehouse team

We needed to get tools for the same day and SGS had them in stock, delivery was going to be too late so we had to come collect it from the showroom in Derby, time was tight as I was coming from 4 hours away but luckily Tanya and the team at SGS went above and beyond to help make sure we could pick up the tools we needed. Customer service was excellent and the equipment I get from SGS has always been excellent. SGS is our go to.

HORRENDOUS AFTER CARE FROM SGS

As a current owner of a significant number of tools from SGS, I had no hesitation in making a £159.99 purchase of a grass Strimmer with associated accessories.
All previous purchases of pertrol Strimmers supplied by SGS worked efficiently, which pleased me as I had a number of alternative manufacturers which let me down.
Well this is the exception to the rule, the equipment continuously stopped for no reason, I made contact and was asked to provide photographic evidence of the machine stopping, I only have two arms, so this was problematic, should I have a camera person on standby?
I had security cameras overlooking the area I was working, so fortunately I complied with there request.
But this wasn’t good enough, they then questioned, my ability to follow instructions to comply with the 40/1 mixture ratio, again I had to provide photographic evidence than I can read.
Eventually - and I suspect with a heavy heart - they provided a replacement start/stop switch.
So I was expected to fit this despite the machine being brand new?
Despite fitting this item, I am experiencing this INTERMITENT issue, stopping randomly, so offered my views to to SGS, suggesting excessive vibration may be contributing to the effect.
Also I stupidly commented to the poor design whereby the bracket (for attaching shoulder strap) was in close proximity to the switch and I could potentially have knocked against, with a view to Hopefully receive guideline as to relocating this bracket or switch.

INSTEAD THE ENGINEER REPLIED INTIMATING THERE IS NO DESIGN OR ENGINEERING FAILURE SO THE ISSUE IS MINE - BASICALLY TELLING ME TO DRY MY EYES AND LIVE WITH A FECTIVE £160 PIECE OF CRAP.

ANYONE CONSIDERING A PURCHASE FROM SGS, BEWARE, THE AFTER CARE SERVICE IS NON EXISTENT
Once they have your money, you are a liability if you seek help.

AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE

SGS 46" Professional 16 Drawer Tool Chest & Roller Cabinet

Bought the SGS 46" Professional 16 Drawer Tool Chest & Roller Cabinet and after setting it up, the toolbox was damaged and wouldn't lock most of the drawers. Tried to contact sgs and their support and service was terrible and useless. The toolbox is not fit for purpose and will be looking to get a refund as its damaged goods. Avoid this company and spend more on a better brand toolbox.

SGS V Twin compressor

Purchased a compressor 100l V Twin that lasted less than a few days, the motor imploded, cracked crank case, squirted out oil everywhere. When I contacted them they asked me to check the oil level. I repeatedly said the motor has imploded.
