Althought the staff at the pick-up were…

Althought the staff at the pick-up were very friendly and the car was in geat shape and the process was easy, I am still waiting on my deposit of 1.150,-€ almost a month later. This deposit was not mentioned in the online booking process. So we were surprised and had to scramble to fond an extra 1.150,-€ in our accounts. I have contacted SOLO several times to help me with this matter and after sending me a cancelled receipt I have heard nothing. I asked for a statement for my bank and am now being ignored. So be prepared to bring extra money to rent you car and then be ignored.

Best experience so far of my Spanish hires

Lovely staff, great condition car (Fiat 500), very easy pickup & drop-off (Malaga airport), I will definitely use this company again if the price remains competitive.
The only thing stopping me giving 5 stars is that because the deposit amount was taken from my card and then refunded a month later (rather than just placing a hold as other companies do) with a credit card bill in between it meant I had £1000 out of my bank account and credited onto my card, so it would be better if they just held the amount rather than physically took the deposit

Avoid at all cost

Avoid at all cost. They will steal money from you. We brought back a perfect car (with keyless entry). They claim that the lock is broken and they kept 550€. They can’t send the proof or a video about their claim. When I say that we never used the lock, their only answer is » you should have taken our private insurance ». It’s infuriating and they are 100% dishonest.

Caught lying over not processing the credit card refund

As noted on other reviews, Solo takes deposit as a payment and not by blocking the amount as an authorization on a credit card.

When I returned the car I was told the payment had been refunded. I wasn't provided with any proof of this though.
7-10 Business days for it be to received on my end.

Wednesday 12th of June 16:52PM
I have no refund still and email them asking for proof, this request of proof was ignored.
In my email:
"Can you please provide some evidence to confirm it's been processed please?"
Their reply:
"You will see this sum reflect in your balance within 1-4 days depending on how your bank operates."

Thursday 13th of June 07:50AM
I request proof of refund again:
"Please provide some evidence of the refund being processed.
Ideally including the date it was done.
Perhaps a screenshot or something.
Thank you."

13:06PM I receive a reply:
"Please find the confirmation attached.
13/06/2024 09:15AM... (details of the refund)"

So only after I ask ,again , for proof, was the refund actually processed, prior to that I had been told multiple times it had been done.

I'm disappointed at being lied to, ignored, to only see that they did not intend to process my refund without further insistence for evidence on my end.

It's quite possible this is how they are making money, by travellers who don't notice it in time or push them hard enough.

I would give them 5 stars otherwise; the rest of the rental experience and staff I dealt with at the location were actually quite nice.

Just some fraudulent behaviour going on with refund processing.

Booked through Economy Bookings on 07…

Booked through Economy Bookings on 07 Jan 2024, the booking had a free additional driver. It was clear on the printout.
When we arrived in Malaga around 6pm on Easter Sunday evening ( 31 March 2024) SOLO car rental would not honour the printed out booking with free extra driver.

I was annoyed but as it was Easter Sunday , so we accepted the car without the extra driver.

Other than this the rental went well , they thoroughly check the car on return and returned the deposit 16 days after the rental return.
Car was good, clean and the exact model I booked.

Excellent Rental Experience with Solo

Would highly recommend Solo for car hire. Fantastic value for a Fiat 500 which was in very good condition with an extra 20 euro discount for my 1st booking. Rep pointed out and gave me info on existing marks and minor damage and willingly adding another mark I spotted. Details were emailed through to me as part of confirmation email. As others have commented deposit is charged to your card rather than placing a hold but ask for it to be processed in your own currency to avoid possible fluctuations. Pick up was very easy and a 10 mins walk from arrivals - v good info including a video on directions provided in booking. I had to return car out of hours in early hours of morning to the Easy car park nearby from where a shuttle bus transported us to the terminal within 5 mins of arrival. Received an email later that car and fuel had been checked and all was in order. Refund received to my credit card within 5 days. All in all I had a very good experience using Sole and will consider using them again for my next trip.

Dreadful customer service when…

Dreadful customer service when returning the car. It was a horrible experience. Someone had transcribed my email address incorrectly. A very rude man accused me that it was my fault that I hadn’t received the email. He displayed harassing, misogynistic behaviour and was rude and challenging while I tried to rectify the problem. I will not use them again, nor recommend them.

Good prices, service-minded personnel

Good prices, easy to reach by phone, professional and service-minded personnel. Very good experience overall.

The car we rented wasn’t superfancy, but clean, fairly new, exactly what we needed for a very competitive price.

The pick-up/leave-off at the airport is certainly a plus. Highly recommended if you want good service at a budget price!

I won't rent through Solo again

I rented a car with Solo (Malaga) because they were cheapest. This turned out to be a mistake because:
1. Picking up the car was a nightmare. I was suspicious when I read on the voucher that I had to make a phone call in order to be picked up at the airport. I first called 3 times (at 7pm) and the line was either busy or no answer. After 15 minutes I finally got an answer, and to my amazement, the Solo employee suggested that we walk to their office because she was alone at the office and wouldn't be able to come and get us for at least a half hour. She said it was a 10 minute walk and not hard to find. Reluctantly, my wife and I started walking with our luggage and golf equipment in a light drizzle. The walk was dangerous, walking against heavy traffic in the dark, and when we finally after 20 minutes, saw the office, it was on the other side of the street with a fence in between so we had to retrace our steps. When we finally got to Solo's office we found that it was true: there was one young lady working alone. Unbelievable!
2. When it was finally our turn, the young lady informed us that the insurance that we had booked through Do you Spain wasn't the insurance that we should have with Solo and suggested that we should cancel that insurance on the spot. Not being able to do that, Solo wanted a deposit of 1150€ that they drew directly from my account. And after getting back to Sweden, it took almost 3 weeks before the money showed up in my account again, and then the amount was almost 100€ less because of the unfavorable currency exchange.

To be fair, I will admit that things went smoothly when we returned the car.

But because of the poor job done by Solo when picking up the car, I will never rent through them again, and would not recommend them to anyone else.

Warning do not use

Used this company twice takes them 6 weeks to return deposits, do not use them it will cost you more in credit card charges, and they do not respond when called or emailed.

To rent a car was easy, but...

To rent a car was easy. Good price. Directions where to find a car and how to unlock a car were well explained.
However, paying the deposit was complicated. Payment link did not work. I had to transfer money manually. I was then told that the money had not been transferred to the correct account. This happend on the day of arrival and caused a lot of stress.
According to the conditions of Solorent, I would get the entire deposit back if I returned the car clean. I had the car washed and vacuumed just before returning it. However, the cleaning costs were still charged by Solorent.
I then emailed them about this, but never received a response.

Good service and great price

We hired a car for a month at a great price, the service was really good and helpful, had no problem with car pick up or return, the deposit was returned without problems and quickly (less than 10 days from returning the car). I'd recommend to others!

Be aware of the exchange rate costs!

Firstly, the service was good, a short wait for the courtesy coach at the airport. The car was nearly new and we were happy with that.
The bad part…..
They take a swipe of your credit card to cover incidentals. Where most companies take an authorisation, this company actually take the payment. In my case €1100 which was £1020. On return, the company refunds the money which took 10 days. However, due to them taking an actual payment, on the return, the refunded amount ended up at £963 so expect an additional expense! There is no recourse on this so be aware.
If only they did as others and just took an authorisation, I would have given this company a 5 star review.

All so good 👍🏼

Very easy conversation with Christopher on reservations upon arrival at Malaga airport. He arranged for the shuttle service to collect us from waiting area and then sorted all the paperwork.
Christopher took us out to the car to check her over and provided email condition report.
On further checking we both found additional small blemishes on bodywork so both of us took photos of these for our records.
Christopher was very thorough and professional.
Hopefully the return after 29 days will be similar.
Will update in October.
Have now dropped car off with Cristina the Solo representative on duty.
I did my usual and took a completion of rental video (for my records) and then Cristina checked the vehicle over and confirmed with an email that car was returned in same condition.
She was very efficient and pleasant and spoke perfect english.
Now waiting for return of deposit so will conclude review when that happens.
As promised I have just received my deposit back within the 10 day window they stated.
Can’t find any faults with their service and will now make them my car hire company of choice.

AVOID

AVOID

Disputed damages. Returned car on 09/08 and still not closed contract when taking €1150.00 as a deposit.

Last email communication was 23/08 and have been ignored since then despite multiple emails. Had to go via my Credit card company as over 5 weeks and not have any closure is completely unreasonable and unprofessional. Cannot even pursue the insurance company due to not having anything from hire company. Do not use.

Very understanding and accommodating

My son has Chickenpox so we have cancelled our holiday. We also knew it was inevitable that our two other children would get it whilst we were away and would not want to put others at risk. Solo, understanding the situation, decided not only to offer a credit for the full deposit - per the contract we would have lost, made sure having re-booked our holiday, we have the same vehicle sent from Marbella so it will be available for us at Malaga airport. They have speedly replied to every email and have been very happy to deal with every query. Cannot fault them. Thumbs up from us!

VEHICLE COLLECTION: 24/09/23
We found it quite difficult to find the car hire pick-up point - we had watched the youtube video too. The staff were more than happy to direct and collect us as we were completely lost . The Vito was ready and waiting as promised. No hidden extras, a few signatures, an email of the contarct along with photos of the vehicles condition received and we were off - we took pictures of the Vito along with videos of the inside and a photo of the milage too.

VEHICLE DROP-OFF 01/10/23

We arrived back at the collection point just after refueling at the BP, which is en route and a few meters away from Solo, only to find out the tank was not reading completely full... Although I had waited before trying to pull the pump trigger several times after the auto cut off trigger kicked in - I like to be sure! I'd not noticed the gauge did not read full. It was 3:50am at this point - only one pay-at-pump open with a queue. I kindly requested we swing back to the fuel station to try and top up again and the member of staff on duty was very happy to assist. He quickly found out after only being able to put in €3 I had in fact filled the tank and the problem was with the gauge. He promptly dropped us to the airport drop-off and said "all is ok, dont worry".

Sure enough, I received an email shortly after confirming all was ok with the return. I will update as soon as I have received the deposit, but at this point, I have no reason to believe I will not receive it in full and on time. So far it has been an easy, supportive and stress-free experience.

UPDATE: 12/10/2023 the monies have been returned in full. No problems here so I would recommend Solo based on our experience and will be using them again on our next trip - I opted to pay the deposit in GBP

I used this company in Malaga the car…

I used this company in Malaga the car had panels twisted on wing no spare wheel. The positive the staff were polite and professional and I obtained confirmation on email my car was full and in same condition. My main concern we’re approaching my 3rd week and my £1050 deposit is still not paid back to my credit card.

scam.please.beware and stay away…

Scam scam..please beware and stay away from this fake company.i have filed it in malaga police station.they never pay your deposit back as workers doesn't seems work legally.they never pay my reservation back as I had fight regarding deposit which they keep it for over 30 days.they said they want to check engin.
