Ads ruined what used to be a great site

Always have fun with the quizzes on the website, but the owners have made it their mission to make ads worse every year. New ones block out the entire screen, forcing you to wait to close it. Even when you do, you get a banner on top, a banner on the bottom that scrolls with you, a video ad playing in the corner, some more dotted in and around the page, and its just too much

I used to absolutely love love love…

I used to absolutely love love love Sporcle but it's become weighted down by too many ads and they are intrusive....my God! While I understand they need to make money, it's over the top and they've driven me elsewhere....f### off Sporcle!

I have NEVER experienced a website like this that has driven away its users so aggressively. I cannot even play a single quiz without it stopping 30 seconds into being on the website or into the quiz that interups it or that bullies you into paying for its services. Pushes for "orange membership midgame, are almost impossible to escape. Never again will I use it. Jetpunk is 100000000x better. Shame on whoever has pushed this aggressive add to give them money. Never again. Goodbye sporcle. It was nice while it lasted.EXTREMELY dissapointed. Will never give it a positive review ever again.

Not worth using anymore

I've used sporcle for over a decad, and it USED to be great, and I learnt a lot of things playing their games, especially the geography and history games, but now there are so many ads that they block the games from properly loading, and you cannot really play either way as the ads block certain parts of the game.
Also, now you have to either pay, or allow tracking to use their website — they'll make money out of you any way.
Such a shame...now I'm looking elsewhere.

Sporcle don't let you opt out of advertising unless you pay

I've been using Sporcle for a few months, but recently I got a cookies related popup that said I could either pay to reject tracking(via membership I assume) or I could accept the cookies. No other options.

Is this even legal? This is a shitty move at best, I'm not going to be forced to give them my data to play some quizzes. Why do they even have the option to opt out? Incredibly scummy practice.

i was browsing their site expecting good clean american fun but after clicking the "random quiz" button i was met with quizzes about "guessing the female celebrity butt" kinda disappointing since sporcle has always claimed to be against misogyny... recently found a newer site called "Yakle" that although is still in the building phase seems to have better company morals. would not recommend using sporcle to anyone i know.

the website doesnt send emails

the website doesnt send emails, making it impossible to create an account. you might just say 'dont make an account then' yeah, but when u press make account it spams the screen and u cant play any quizzes because it wont send you the code for youre account. not to mention the ads spam. its a joke of a website that should be shut down :)

The worst website ever

The worst website ever! It won’t let me delete my account and when I contact the customer support it’s just an automated message that spam my mail with NO HELP.
To delete your account you have to first request it on your profile and then you get a mail with a link that doesn’t work? It just sends me to the homepage and doesn’t delete anything :(

Stuck Loading

after i finished a quiz, a loading sign popped up saying sponsored content above it. I think it was trying to load an ad. I sat there for 5 minutes to see my answers but they never came so I had to close the tab. Screw sporcle.

Too many Ads

Great concept of user based quizzes, in recent years this is now unusable as there seems to be more adverts than quizzes, so many ads that the lag makes most quizzes unplayable

Favoritism

The site is full of favoritism. The user MSUKent threw a fit because I created a quiz that was similar to one he created in the past. So he types in the comment section of that quiz, tagging El_Dandy in it, who is an administrator. He wrote in the comment section that he hates that he is doing it, yet he did it anyway. So by saying that he hates that he is doing it, he realizes it is wrong. But that didn't stop him from doing it, extremely fragile ego. Two days later, I get the following message:

You're actually under a comprehensive full site block. A conversation between staff members today to update site guidelines about series ownership stemming from your very public argument last week led to a look into your site behavior. Our analysis of the situation led us to conclude that you created this account to get around a site block that was put in place several years ago, which violates our terms of service.

Eventually they'll drive you away from the site, one way or another, if you're not one of their favorites. Sporcle claims it was due to my "very public argument" when I wasn't the one who commented on it, it was MSUKent. So the site blamed me for it, that's proof of favoritism for MSUKent.

So MSUKent, orange subscriber with 1,139 publishes, 1,163 curator picks, 1,077 editor picks and a badge named after him is allowed to complain because I made a quiz similar to one of his in the comment section on one of my quizzes and have nothing happen. But if I respond to it, then I am violating the terms of the site. El_Dandy claims there is no favoritism but this proves that there is. Certain users are favored over others. Getting an average of 8 publishes a month must be all MSUKent has in his life. What a fragile ego. My guess would be he has no real life friends. It's sad.

Update: Since typing this review it was sad to find out that MSUKent is 61 years old and getting upset on Sporcle because someone makes a quiz that is similar to those he has made in the past. I would expect that from someone in their 20's, but from someone in their 60's. He'll be the oldest person at SporcleCon in August. Sad.

Another update, as of 6-3-2024, Sporcle has changed the password and e-mail address for my Sporcle user name so I can no longer access it. Retaliation for disagreeing with them. Avoid the site at all costs! I'm assuming El_Dandy, administrator, is behind that. He went from being a teacher to working for a free gaming website, not exactly a step up.

As of 6-11-24, Sporcle has actually contacted my internet provider so I can no longer access Sporcle. That's what happens when you give them anything but praise. Thanks for reading this.

As of 6-13-24, it's funny that Sporcle is still giving quizzes I created curator and editor picks, which contributes to the amount of plays the website gets, but they won't let me use the website. Doesn't say much for their ethics.

6-19-24, I got another curator pick today in the Actress category for Four Time Actress Oscar Nominee Movies. Another testament to the ethics the website has. They're fine with my quizzes still contributing to the amount of plays the website gets.

7-20-24, I got another curator pick in the Oscar category for All Four Acting Category Oscar Nominated Movies. Yet another testament to the ethics the website has.

8-3-24, I got yet another curator pick in the Actor category for Arthur Kennedy Oscar Movies Order Up. Sporcle keeps displaying testaments to the ethics the website has.

I'm sure this past weekend at SporcleCon was the highlight of his life. I'm sure getting publishes and curator and editor picks is all he has in his life.

Annoying User

I enjoy the site but there is an annoying user, RotherhamAndrea, who is a wannabe admin or staff member. This user is always responding to posts in the Report a Problem group, but is not an admin or staff member. It's annoying. I like the site though.

Great Private Custom Trivia Event!

Mark did a great job on the trivia for our daughter's wedding shower! Everyone had a ball and I heard from many of the guests on how fun it was. He was funny and professional. A couple of weeks before the event, they collected questions from the bride and groom to make a custom trivia game which our guests loved. Mark was a great host and I would definitely use Sporcle again for future events. Great job!

Horrible Video ads

The video ads are so horrible! They are just made to pop up by Sporcle, and there's no way to get around them. It's just the same video about Sporcle repeatedly, and even if you X it out it will appear at the bottom and you also have to X it out there. Also, if this isn't enough, they slow down your browser so that 3 Sporcle tabs will freeze it. Playing quizzes are fun, but this makes it irritating.
