Terrible editing platform and you can't call them. It's archaic really. The email communication is fairly quick but more often than not the agents don't have the correct answers. Try a newer better company with integrated ai like ionos. You will thank me later.

It was great being able to speak directly to a person after getting the same redundant copy & paste response from the AI bot and was not able to figure out the issue.

My experience was horrible. Hence the reason I am no longer with squarespace. The AI tool. Never again, could not fix or change anything. Any progress I had or tried to have could not save it.
Your support (help) completely sucks!!
One of the worst I have ever experienced. Then to find the area to get a refund, lol… you intentionally make it hard to find to get a refund. If I could give a negative number I would. Wix.com is just the same.

Awful experience from start to finish.
I’ve been stuck going in circles trying to resolve a simple issue, with no clear support or resolution. Instead of helpful customer service, it feels like Squarespace is relying too heavily on AI-generated responses that don’t actually address the problem.
The support links they sent me didn’t work, the instructions were unclear, and when trying to connect my domain, I was told it doesn’t exist — which only created more confusion. Every step has felt unnecessarily complicated and frustrating.
The most disappointing part is the difficulty in getting a refund despite the service not working as expected and the issue remaining unresolved.
I expected a much smoother experience from a platform like Squarespace, but instead it has been time-consuming, stressful, and extremely disappointing. Would not recommend based on my experience. KEEP AWAY!

After hours of weighing up pros and cons, getting completely ground down and feeling hopeless, seeing how far these mighty hosts and domain registrars have fallen (how untrustworthy they each have become), I signed up for a free trial with Squarespace fifteen minutes ago and I'm instantly deflated by the user experience; met with AI website builder (or 'blueprint') and rigid, clinical, uninspiring templates. I hate where society is going, it's just bland and insipid and, too often, makes life overly complicated and devoid of soul. I have big ideas, visions, ambitions for dot com, including commerce (merch) and various businesses on the same domain (or with multiple domains linking to the primary), but I typed my website name into the box to see it appear on the template and I just can't bring myself to go through with it. It feels like I'm cheapening my vision by doing this; it feels wrong to see it presented in such a homogenised fashion on the screen. I deleted the text and then deleted my Squarespace account. There has to be a better way. I miss the old times, the times when companies still had a modicum of respect and integrity, and individuality and creativity reigned supreme.

Trying to change ownership of a domain with all the proof anyone should ever present is impossible with squarespace. When a domain owner has passed away and a death certificate and proof of new ownership of all things related to the domain, including the domain, the executor of the Estate sending in writing new ownership is legal and correct, and they still won’t let you pay the bill to continue the domain, there’s a major problem. Can’t get a hold of any actual human, it’s all AI robots. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

It seems like they no longer hire humans. I spent an inordinate time trying to figure out how to connect with someone. You cannot directly email them anymore outside of the platform and the wait times are inordinate. They need to focus on hiring humans and not trying to make more money with AI that doesn't support it's customers. The customer service is not efficient for a small business owner at this point and it's time they focus on the customer again.

This is getting overpriced for what I can self host and build with AI.
The magic of templates is gone.
Also the change to steal money of credit card transactions a few years ago was BS

Squarespace is resting on its laurels with poor integratations, poor design templates, crappy marketing options, poor mail list/profile management, and crappy AI. Customer service is non-existent.

I am fine with Squarespace until I have a problem. I don't want to wait to have a chat with a human, but the AI is absolutely horrific. It seems designed to infuriate. The guides that I am directed to have yet to help. When I am working on Canva or Kit, the AI is fantastic so I don't think twice about accessing it. I will do today's date for this review because it is any time I need help.

I could not bring myself to recommend Squarespace to anyone. In my 40 years of using computers, I have been through several different companies that offered the same services. I, among many others, was involuntarily transferred to this company. The moment my annual prices went up, I knew I had to get away from this place. Then they began charging my credit card 30 days in advance, with no refunds, for web URLs I did not order and were not listed on SquareSpace. After many attempts to explain to the very unresponsive Squarespace AI, and even less responsive supposed humans, I gave up on them. I realized they were a total waste of time and contacted my credit card company, explained the situation, and stopped all current and future payments to Squarespace.I recommend CloudFlare to everyone.

Squarespace is a solid easy to use tool. Along with AI, I have made great progress over the last year in structure, form, and function.

I have been trying for the last two years to get this company to cancel my account. They rely on your being busy after they charge you to forget and charge you again the next year.
I have tried everything to contact them but their customer service email doesn't work and the chat is with automated with AI. Still stuck. They have charged me $90 per year for the last 2 even though I have tried to stop payments. The last time being last month.
I changed to Shopify because they are not only much better but are cheaper and get results.
This is a company that is poorly run and tries to scam its customers.

I am writing my answer here since there is no place to answer to their response.
I tried to login to my account, but need to update the password. I was prompted for an email so they could send me a link to update it, but didn't get an email back. As it stands, I can't login to my account. I have several domains to be cancelled and no way to do it. I do, however, receive emails from them at the same email address.
I tried the chat button but after entering some of the information, it stopped and will not allow me to enter more information. It's got stuck without a resolution.
I have contracted my credit card company to report them and see if that way I can get them to stop billing me for services not used.

updating this review on 4/9/2026
on April 5th my account was refunded the full amount. Thank you for that. I have upgraded my rating from one star to 3 as you showed me you are a legitimate business. However, It took a lot to be able to close down my accounts and get a refund. It shouldn't be so hard. I also had to post a 1 star review here to get an answer. Automizing services to this extent only results in horrible customer service. Hire more humans so your business doesn't get the reputation of being just one more scam.

The idea that Squarespace is a reputable platform to build and host a website is long gone into the abyss of enshittification. Not only have a tonne of actually useful features fallen victim to over-simplified designs and AI slop services, causing me to custom code every single page for simple functions (i.e gradients 🙄), but the cost remains the same and is extortionistic at best.
All that paired with customer support ignoring and closing case tickets after multiple follow-ups is pathetically disgusting for such a platform.
I’ve been using Squarespace for the better part of 10 years and it’s gotten worse and worse. Any support response, especially to this review, is just another empty redirect to their human-less automated system.
It’s only a matter of time before some YouTuber calls them out, exposing the money grabbing scam Squarespace actually is. Do NOT start now with Squarespace.

Just find the site a bit rubbish no real ai and no API access to the blog

I accidentally murdered my session without activating AI, no one has been able to help me to get started. if I want to use AI I need to cancel and get started again. but it looks like I might not get my money back. so it's looking like my $300 are gone

It is easy to use. I would like to see better integrations specifically for other booking softwares and ai/two way texting, more mobile first template options, separate editing for mobile and desktop.

Only AI support coupled with minimal time to respond to more information requests make dealing with Squarespace way too hard. Use GoDaddy instead. Squarespace response isn't very accurate. If I were to guess, the reply was AI generated as well!

too expensive for a simple landing page option. no live customer service; the AI doesn't give more flexibilty to the using for vibe coding. high fees and charges just to try a different templates

My experience with Squarespace has been deeply frustrating.
The platform feels outdated and technically limited. It struggles with international HTML code formats and CVV input fields — attempting to implement standard global payment elements caused parts of the site functionality to break entirely. For a modern website builder, this is unacceptable.
The overall functionality is restrictive. Most templates feel visually stuck in 2015. Customization options are limited unless you rely heavily on external tools and third-party resources. There is no meaningful built-in AI to assist with layout, branding, or content structure — which in 2026 feels like a massive gap.
Performance is another major issue. Google consistently flags Squarespace sites as heavy and slow-loading. Despite optimization efforts, the platform itself seems bloated. It’s discouraging to invest time into building something that search engines automatically penalize for performance issues.
Customer support is extremely slow. Responses take weeks, and when they arrive, they are filled with generic apologies rather than actionable solutions.
The most frustrating part: I spent an entire month manually building a site here (with the help of ChatGPT), and the result was still clunky and slow. On a modern AI-powered platform, I generated a significantly better website in under two hours — faster, cleaner, and dramatically more polished.
I genuinely regret the amount of time I invested in this service.
