Quite frankly these are probably the worse bunch of human beings around! Left our family including our disabled son without power so we couldn’t feed him and hoist him out of his wheelchair let alone... See more

small business customer ripped off
small business customer, was contacted 9 months after switching suppliers and being forced into paying £££ more in supposed adjusted final bills, despite all their invoices showing estimated energy use which simply didn't add up, in my best estimation this is due to accounting errors on their part when they switched to a different type of invoice structure in 2023, complete and absolute con artists and to be avoided at all costs. eventually a lack of willing to continue fighting them led to us having to pay up so we can move on.
Would give negative stars if I could
Would give negative stars if I could. Disruputable and dishonest company. Left SSE 6 months ago, went to EDF with a 3 year contract and now SSE have somehow taken the contract back. No signed contract. EDF says they have to pass back to SSE and SSE are refusing to allow us to leave. Dishonest and this sort of behaviour should be illegal. They also vastly overcharge. AVOID at all costs
This company is terrible
This company is terrible; they took all my money and left me with nothing after I trusted them, which really shattered me
Poor Services & Systems
One of the worst I must say. To get a price quote will take 10 minutes. What hope have you got when a multi billion company couldn't provide you just one gas meter price quote in less than few minutes. Must be a joke dealing with the staff there.
Still waiting for £5K refund after 6 months
A company to avoid.
Six months after leaving SSE, we are still waiting for the refund on the electricity supplied to the communal areas of our blocks of flats. SSE calculated the refund as in excess of £5K but have yet to take any steps to pay the money back. During the time they supplied electricity, we were on the wrong tariff and had invoices based on estimated not actual usage.
Has anyone at SSE apologised for the mistake? No
Has anyone at SSE apologised for (and explained) the delay in paying the refund? No
Has anyone at SSE offered to reimburse the cost of phone calls made during the last 6 months to get the refund? No
Has anyone at SSE kept a promise - to investigate/to make the refund/to call back with an answer? As yet, no.
SSE are so unbelievably inept.
If I could give zero stars that would still be very generous - in reality we need a ‘negative stars’ score - and I would rate SSE in their handling of a billing query as minus 5.
This situation has been going on for over 16 months. SSE still do not even know what the bill should be.
A complaint has been raised but the so-called complaints manager cannot determine what the billing is, so cannot provide a resolution, nor a telephone number and not even a reference number so lord only knows what the situation will be in another 16 months.
Any normal company would have apologised and written the bill off by now - the amount of time they have taken to get absolutely nowhere is astonishing. If an invoice were to be raised for the time taken to pursue this matter it would far exceed any domestic electricity bill for the 6 months of the tenancy.
SSE actually thought the block of residential flats was on a commercial rate.
As I say SSE don’t know what they are doing in this matter. But what I can say is they are doing damage to the health and wellbeing of the person who is valiantly trying to pay them what he feels he might owe them and is doing their job for them but getting nothing back!
I suggest writing this off SSE as you clearly have no idea what you’re doing.
Corruption?
If I owe SSE £1 they will write to me continually until they get it. SSE has owed us nearly £1500 for the better part of a year now. Multiple phone calles saying it will be paid soon but still nothing. Their system for claiming money is way more sophisticated than their system for returning it. Classic case of a company hanging on to your money as long as possible so they can gain interest on it. Not sure why the government haven't stepped in to do something about this. Maybe some of the politicians are major shareholders and they get a share of these 'profits'
14 Months after moving Supplier SSE…
14 Months after moving Supplier SSE send me a bill for electric used. after a lot of emails & phone calls they credited the invoice but still send invoices & statements out followed by credit note. they have even had a credit agency chasing (THE CREDITED AMMOUNT)
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
I have never dealt with such an incompetent company in all my life! We moved into a business premises that was supplied by SSE and we continued with them, had never used them before so why not? Well after receiving 8 bills in one month totaling over £3k which they would have taken by DD had I not cancelled it I decided to switch. I paid numerous bills, none of which really made sense, I called numerous times and was given different information, one hand didn’t know what the other was doing, I then switched closed the account, as far as aware everything was settled as confirmed by SSE on the telephone, i have since had 2 different debt collection agencies chasing me for £600 after the switch. The invoices don’t tally £600. I am more than sure I have paid over what I should have paid to SSE but as I just wanted this resolved and to move forward paid the invoices. This company is untrustworthy. I am in the process again of sorting out with a debt collection agency apart from this time I will not be parting with anymore money.
I honestly don’t know how this is a legitimate company, avoid at all costs unless you want to be hounded for unreasonable amounts of money, even if you switch providers!
Cut supply before provider switch
Took me months to get off their business meter and onto the domestic database so that I could switch providers. Maybe 6 or 7 long phone calls in total over the space of 3 months, didn’t get someone that knew what they were doing until the last phone call, and they’re the one who ended up sorting it out for me.
Cut off my electricity supply in the middle of the night, the day before my switch to a new provider, so everything in the fridge will be going off.
Proper bad service all round, defo avoid.

never really had a issue with sse until…
never really had a issue with sse until i was due to move to another supplier, sse have made my life hell by saying the smart meter readings are estimated and today 6 bills have landed on my desk going back as far as december 2024 & i can`t make sense of any of them as to how much i actually owe... if any at all, please do not get involved with this company they will make your life a living hell. They get third party debt collecters to call you for no reason, now i am out of contract and want to move toanother company they will not let me until everything is paid, so they can keep charging me the out of contract higher rate, disgusting just a massive ripoff, i wouldn`t even give them the one star!!!
Terrible
Terrible. Tried to overcharge us and then sent through 4 different invoices with completely different amounts on. When I queried it they said it wasn’t possible to send through one invoice with the accurate amount on. I explained that we couldn’t pay the bill without receiving it first. Now on hold to the complaints department. As soon as this is sorted we’ll be cancelling the contract.
They have given my personal phone…
They have given my personal phone number etc to a solicitor and debt collector for a company I have nothing to do with. I have been harassed with emails, texts and calls . They are not helping to sort this out.
SSE. Never Again
The company sent an estimated bill for £3007 for a three month period having installed a smart meter the previous year. The current cost with the new provider is £60 per three month period.
Unable to report fraudulent eroneous transfer
an account has been set up in our company name, using our bank details, but the bank account name given is in the name of a disgruntled customer of ours. We are not, and never have been, responsible for supply, it is a shared building and the responsibility of the landlord. I have been unable to speak to anyone, bar 1 uninterested collections agent.
Kian Lee - Shining Star - what an asset!
I just want to thank Kian Lee for all of his help in getting a situation resolved which had been outstanding for a very long time. Kian took control of the situation, eeping me informed and providing updates along the way. Kian is an absolute asset to SSE and should be greatly valued as a staff member, I know I definitely value him as a point of contact - thank you Kian you are an absolute star ⭐
Worst possible customer 'service'
To make it absolutely clear, the account is for a COMMERCIAL supply and NOT a residential supply.
After numerous attempts to submit a meter reading and VAT Qualifying Use Certificate through SSE's unfit for purpose system, I get an email saying that they cannot read the clear-as-daylight picture of the meter reading.
It goes on to say "You would need to supply the calculations as to how you have arrived the % split. Please refer to HMRC for guidance as full calculations will be required."
No help as to what's wrong with the calculation, no helpful link to the HMRC page that explains it, just a sloppy, lazy email from "Nicole" who could not be bothered.
I suppose you don't get what you don't pay for. I should have stayed with British Gas and got really good service.
It is revealing that 91% of reviews are only 1 star.
Shame on you SSE.
Very bad company Haven’t been billed…
Very bad company Haven’t been billed properly. Had to go to the ombudsman who has now finally sorted the situation out . Do not go with company worst company to deal with .
Keira - SSE's Diamond
I can't begin to explain and express how thankful I am for your help and support today, for a significantly complex query to be dealt with and resolved as she has done is nothing short of spectacular and she is by far the most polite and competent representative I have dealt with in my 15+ years in the game.
