I placed an order on May 23, 2025 and I paid the total amount.
I heard nothing anymore and I asked for an update on the status of my order on June 26, 2025.
The next day, they informed me that the order was canceled because the book was unavailable and, if I wanted, I could contact customer service te ask for a refund of my 'advance payment'.

I have ordered a book and I have paid with bancontact. Big error. The next day, I received an email telling me that the book is not available and I they will notify me once available. Every time I write them asking for a refund, I receive the same automatic answer. Book not available, we will notify you when back in stock.

I ordered a book and for my surprise I went to the web site to trace my order and according with the system I did not order any book despite that I received an email with the confirmation of my order .
“Je bestelling (nr. 2409059943) “ this is the number of my order , I sent several emails asking what’s going on with my order and NOBODY ANSWERED! I want answers

Always good service in shop and smooth online order service. Ordered around 20books over the last 5 years. My only feedback is that some books are ‘orderable’ but then take 2 months to get.

We had a 1-year valid voucher of 50 euro because our son became 7 years of age. The voucher was put in a “safe place” for later re-use (but was forgotten). After 13 months we recovered it and went to the standaard boekhandel in tervuren to hear what was still possible. “Nothing regretfully - we can not help you with this - company instructions not to be flexible”. And probably legally all the right at at their favour, consumers should not allow companies to cash in and greed on customers money. One could argue inflation had been 10% so you could only buy 90% value (even if standaard boekhandel had been sitting on your money for a year) - but even that is not possible.
Our country regulators should stop this practice of paying for vouchers that are valid for 1 year. People paid for services so should get them. No excuses.
Standaard boekhandel, just like others, is using customers as cash cows to fill their pockets and should have shame over it.
Avoid the shop and look for alternatives.

UPDATE - Customer service of standaard boekhandel did write me back to say they would still accept a voucher upto 1y+1m. Mine was 1y+2m. I did write them my complaint has more to do with the practice of asking money for goods/services and not giving anything back. Their representative told me they would discuss this in their next CS staff meeting. And than, it went silent….
I will also address this practice to testaankoop.

I’m sorry but I can’t recommend.specifically not service online .book order 11.12.2021 week later email they can not order my book and during 3 days I’m gonna get my money back .almost month - no money, no order and they ignore my emails….
I have ordered something that was not available while it was not stated like that. I am trying to reach the client service to ask for the refund and nobody is answering my mails. It is really not professional and I will never order anything from them and I also not reccomend it to anyone.
I have ordered a book online and paid for it plus delivery costs. After two weeks no book, no email, no money. I have contacted them and without apologies they tell me that my purchase is cancelled because they don't have the book, while it was still available online. What a disappointment! And no apologies!
Terrible email customer service.
They don’t seem to properly read the emails and don’t provide clear replies beyond the ‘automated reply system’.
Very frustrating and will never buy again through them.
Also they send me a different version of a book that I ordered without even inquiring if this was ok or if a refund would be wanted in this case.
This is the worst site yet. Order from 26/09/2020 yields absolutely no reaction (today is 14/11/2020). Absolutely no respect for the client. No intention whatsoever to inform the client of delays and such. Absolutely unpalatable.

Order something and they tell you that they have to order with their supplier.
Then many weeks later they tell you it's out of stock.
Okay, why not just remove it from your listings? Why would you buy something that frankly does not exist?
