"Beware of Misleading Land Investments: Our Cautionary Tale with The Ark World in Costa Rica"
I’m sharing this as a warning to help others avoid going through what we went through. I wanted to share my experience with land investments in Costa Rica, especially for anyone who’s looking to make choices that truly support the land and the local community. My hope is that this helps you be more informed and careful.
My partner and I were so excited about investing here because we care deeply about preserving the land and supporting local agriculture. We found a development called The Ark World, located in the hills of Santa Teresa. First, I want to say that not all land developments are bad. After this experience, we’ve met others who went through something similar, but we’ve also learned that there are legitimate developments that genuinely prioritize land preservation and supporting local communities.
That said, we want to share this so you can avoid the challenges we’ve faced. After getting involved with The Ark World project, we quickly realized that things weren’t as they seemed. We are now in a legal process over dishonest contracts and a large amount of money taken from us.
We did our best to do our homework, but knowing what we know now, here are some things we would have done differently:
Support local Costa Ricans whenever purchasing property, if possible.
Talk to people outside of the development who do not have a vested interest. We made the mistake of only speaking with others who had already invested. When we finally connected with locals, we found out the development wasn’t what it was marketed to be.
Be cautious of developments that promise profit-sharing or future projects but have very little tangible progress or evidence to back those claims.
Ultimately, we wanted to support locals, preserve most of the land for wildlife, and grow fruit trees. Despite what we’ve been through, we still love Costa Rica and have learned so much from this experience. There are honest developments out there, and I wanted to share this story so you can be more aware as you navigate investing in and respecting this beautiful land.
I hope no one else has to go through what we did!
