The Mailing Room have zero morals

The Mailing Room have zero morals, please do not get caught by engaging with them.
They will lure you into thinking it is a simple swop of the machine you have because the current machine will not be supported by Royal Mail. Then charge you 8 x the price of purchasing the machine on the open market, add a maintenance fee that costs more than the machine itself and make you pay what's left on your previous machine that was working absolutely fine.

Avoid and report them to Trading Standards or you'll pay the price - they even try and make you pay more than the actual contract to settle.

Avoid at all cost!!!!

The Mailing room our absolute con artists - they mis-sold us a machine at 7x its market value - no option to cancel the contract early and multiple hidden costs.

Avoid at all cost!

These people are absolute filth

These people are absolute filth. We're trying to cancel a contract that was signed 3 years ago for a franking machine that we literally never use and being quoted £9k for the privilege of doing so - this includes maintenance we won't be having as we won't have the machine and postage increase costs which we obviously won't have either if we don't have the machine. If we stick with them for the remaining 3 years we'll be in for £14k - absolute conmen - avoid like the plague!

If you’re in the market for a franking…

If you’re in the market for a franking machine, best turn around and go elsewhere.

These Cowboys are the masters at smoke, mirrors, sharp selling - bordering on criminal.

What you’re offered will be dressed up as a ‘rental’ with a quarterly rental payments, but what they don’t tell you is they are actually taking out a 6 year finance agreement (from a third-party bank) in your company name. Basically they supply you a piece of equipment that retails for around £1500, and you end up paying about £12,000 over the term of the finance package. When you get to the end of contract you don’t even own the franking machine , they will take it back from you.
Their practice involves luring you into thinking you’re “renting” a machine quarterly , but actually they submit an invoice to a finance company and get paid in full whilst you are left ‘carrying the ~£12k baby’”, you end up massively overpaying for a piece of machinery for the next six years & unable to cancel.
Nothing is explained about what they’re doing behind the curtain, this is the very grey area about their practices. In my case no mention of 3rd party finance was made at any point.
Once the first six year term is over, they will likely contact you saying that your machine is obsolete and needs to be replaced. It probably not. They just want to tie you into another 6 year contract.

As a hard-working small business owner, franking machine suppliers aren’t really ‘on my radar’ but now having reviewed everything they’ve done I’m absolutely appalled at the practice they carry out, and can’t believe a fellow British company can serve this level of abuse against others.

Please do your homework before getting involved with these people. Shocking behavior that needs to be stopped.

After over 10 years of being a customer, we've finally had it with the mailing room and switched to a different provider. Terrible customer service, unresponsive, unpleasant and and couldn't be bothered to replace a faulty machine that we rent from them!

Before even contemplating fixing or replacing the machine (one they are contractually obliged to rectify swiftly under their contact), they wanted a 6 year contract renewal with a huge fee increase.

Read the small print!

Read the small print!

Everything is hand written on the document and they provide horrible customer service.

On settling they had the audacity to charge for future maintenance on the machine that we no longer had (again in the small print). 1 Star is generous.

Falsely Selling

Same as a lot of others, talked into signing a contract with the promise it was cheaper than the last with all the extra services. It is not and now we are stuck in the contract which is astronomical to get out of. Getting charged for maintenance. We dont even use the machine and it doesnt work

Hidden charges in the very very small print

When our Pitney Bowes contract was up we decided to sign a new contract with The Mailing Room for 5 years as they seem cheaper. However they don't point out all the charges that are coming up. Within 2 months of changing we ran out of money and even though we set up a DD and transferred money manually they kept telling us that Pitney Bowes can't find the money. Yes Pitney Bowes is somehow included with their contract. It took 2 weeks of buying stamps to sort this out. Finally done we're now charged £165 as Royal Mail changed their pricing and somewhere in the very small print it states that at our expense "we have to purchase any Royal Mail tariff updates from us at our then current rates". I will not sign with them again.

After this review they contacted me and offered a credit for £165 as a goodwill gesture. That at least covers this year, but there'll be 4 more years to go.

Coercive/ bullying strategies

In short, they use coercive strategies which is indemic and encouraged as policy. Twice, farcical charges were made and I was cut off for days (without warning), leaving my business under significant stress being predominantly reliant on web sales.

They are an absolute rip off

They are an absolute rip off, they tricked us into entering a new lease 6 year in the midst of lock down when no one was in the office and everyone was too stressed to question it. We were faced with the threat of having no franking machine so it got signed off.

We've asked what it would cost to exit the agreement and they want to charge us more than the balance of monthly fees, including maintenance even though they will take the machine away.

To top it off the machine cannot deal with Signed For or Registered Post anymore and we have to do that with Royal Mail direct.

Terrible company

Terrible company. All their bad reviews say it all. I wish I had seen these before doing business with them. I can honestly say the worst company I have come across in my 40 years of business.

2.8 stars says it all. If you care why did nobody bother to contact Cimac and settle this matter in a business manner. You listen to yourselves and nobody else. Stay away!!

Beware hidden penalty clause could cost you £10,000

Received a quote in 2019 which stated “As discussed we will monitor the account to see if your volumes increase or decrease to make sure you have the best solution at any time.” This proved to be a misrepresentation of the contract.

The first time we saw the contract was when TMR came into our offices to get it signed on the spot with no chance to read it thoroughly. We trusted their assurance that nothing had changed since the quote and email exchanges at that stage. But the penalty clause was hidden within 3 pages of standard terms and conditions in very small print. We believe that TMR behaved improperly in getting the agreement signed.

The penalty clause is “If Meter usage exceeds the stated letter volumes of postage spend (specified overleaf), TMR reserves the right to charge you TMR’s then current charge for such excess usage.” That charge is 47p for every £1 of postage. We were told we had to pay £10,000 now or have our quarterly fee increase 3-fold for the next 4+ years. We believe that clause is an unfair contract term under Unfair Contract Terms Act (UCTA) 1977 because it is a disproportionate, unreasonable penalty clause and directly contradicted the text of the quote.

TMR didn’t inform us in Feb 2020 when breach first occurred allowing penalties under the unfair clause to accumulate for 20 months. Revealingly, they are content to allow us to continue at present levels of usage at the contracted fee as long as we pay them £10,000.

Quality customer service and equipment

As my organisation is moving to remote office working, I had to give early notice to the Mailing Room for our franking machine. The courier service offered by the Mailing Room for the return of the equipment was at an incredibly good price, no other courier could compete. I am grateful they offer this service. The equipment is of high quality too, and the finance team is responsive if you have a query on an invoice. This is a very professional supplier.
