Timpsons Darlington (Sainsbury's)- Replacement Car Key....Totally Hopeless

Simple right? I have a car, it needs a new key, a 2020 Golf, not difficult, I need one and Timpsons supply and programme them for you, it's a common problem with an easy local and handy solution. But no, I have been into the Timpsons (Darlington, Sainsburys branch) personally, on three separate occasions with the car (and the key!) to order/arrange for a replacement to be supplied and programmed. There is a mysterious character, a member of staff who works there whom I've never met, his name begins with the letter 'J' and apparently he's the 'key guy', only him, no one else does it. He's hard to track down; days off (fair enough), on holiday (we all
need one) and just 'not in'. Details of what I need left on the three separate occasions (over a month long period). I made specific trips to organise the key replacement and not a single telephone call back, email or any contact or 'service'. I wanted a key and hoped to give the business (£183) to my local Timpsons as supporting local outlets is important. But I've now sacked that idea and I won't be bothering with them for anything in the future. If you need a car key, get someone who is bothered to help you as Timpsons clearly are not!

Excellent service

I took my recently bought and worn twice Birkenatock dupes to Timpson in Chapelfield, Norwich for better quality and longer lasting replacement soles. Rob did an excellent job the new soles are brilliant quality and will last. Good value for money and an excellent service. Thanks Rob. My shoes will last me much longer and they look great. 😀

Timpson staff need some training in courtesy

I twice went in to Timpsons at Sainsburys Rustington, West Sussex, with a receipt, 3 years old, for a Lifetime Battery and the watch it pertained to - I had kept the two faithfully together as the watch was not worn but kept on a mantelpiece. The watch needed to have the battery replaced as it was no longer working.
On my first visit the female assistant informed me, very abruptly, that i needed the 'red card' that 'would have been issued' with the receipt. I went home, could not find any red card, but the receipt clearly showed it was for a 'Lifetime Battery' and i had, as i say, kept the receipt carefully, with the watch, for over 3 years...
I went back and explained this, to the male assistant. Like the first assistant had been, he was curt to the point of rudeness, saying that without the 'red card', despite the receipt i had it would cost me another £24 and he 'could then fit a lifetime battery' for me. Thus, effectively, the staff there are accusing me of lying about the watch being the one that is guaranteed - I could have assured them i was not, but neither of them would brook any sort of conversation with me.
I strongly suggest that these people, unless Timpson is proud of their behaviour, could do with some training in customer service.

My thanks to Vicky Smith at Timpson Customer Care for contacting me and sorting this issue out so promptly. The only thing i would say is I will go to a different branch of Timpson in the future!

A new outlet opened recently in…

A new outlet opened recently in Wombourne West Midlands on the local Sainsburys car park.We decided to try them as had a few items we needed i.e shoes reheeling,watch repair etc.The young man Tim who works there is excellent 👌 very professional very polite and friendly really knows his job.We have been so pleased with the quality and customer service and there is such a variety of services available it’s such a help to us as it’s local and reasonable prices for everything.Highly recommend this place.

Avoid their dry-cleaning at all costs

AVOID DRY CLEANING!!!

My brand‑new white jacket was returned to me in a ruined condition following the dry‑cleaning service provided by this company. Can’t believe I paid for a service that clearly failed to meet basic standards. My jacket had zero marks on it, it needed just a freshen up so I took it to the Livingston store. After collecting my jacket I noticed the back had a huge stain on it, so I went back down where the sales assistant confirmed there had been no marks when I handed it into them, this was then sent back to be cleaned again. When I collected the second time, the first mark they caused had been removed only to be replaced with a different mark and the jacket no longer bright white, more like a dull washed too many times white jacket with bobbles all over. Contacted the store who advised to go straight to customer service which I did. They did respond to me on the Monday to say they had my complaint and would be in touch, a week later and multiple emails sent to the dry-cleaning manager (as stated on her email signature) no further response. I find it astonishing that they first ruin a brand new jacket, but to then just not respond is beyond unacceptable. I will be looking to take this matter further.

First class service from Joseph at the Timpson Tesco Extra outlet in Ashford, Middlesex. 'Two watch batteries to be replaced please'. A welcoming Joseph provided a comfortable padded stool whilst he worked on my watches for 10 minutes. Job done! Very happy customer!

Crazy prices

Please do not use Timpsons they are a disgrace and there prices are extortionate, great they give ex offenders a job this does not give them the right to rip the general public off . Head office are a disgrace basically fob you off when you tell them how the prices are over inflated . I feel for the elderly who use this service and do not know any better and pay whatever . Please shop around before you use this company they are seriously a last resort .

Outstanding Service!

Timpson Tech Centre replaced my iPad Pro battery and I can't be more pleased with the service! Communication was great, my iPad works like new, the overall price was very reasonable and the whole process from placing my order and to receiving my iPad with the new battery was straight forward and very quick.

Robbery

Went to Timpsons outside Sainsbury’s in Chester basically my partner was charged £7.50 for a battery for kitchen scales , you can buy the identical battery for £0.99p from the manufacturer ! I decided to call Timpsons at Morrisons in Chester and asked for a price for the battery my partner had purchased £5 was the charge here ! Complained to head office who basically told me the person in charge can charge what he wants ! Lost the receipt so could not get a refund I will be popping into the Sainsburys branch to see the ex con who robbed me. My parents and friends warned myself about Timpsons I should have listened . Head office are a disgrace basically fobbed me off .

Unless you want to work for no recognition avoid


My time working for Timpson has been far from positive, with several significant issues that have made the role increasingly difficult and demoralizing.

One of the most frustrating aspects is the way performance is managed. I’ve been placed on letters of concern due to factors completely outside of my control—specifically weather-related issues that impacted operations. It feels unjust to be held accountable for something I couldn’t influence or change.

The management situation in Area 17 is also a major concern. There’s a particular individual in the ADM team who acts with what can only be described as authoritarian and unreasonable behavior—someone who makes the work environment unnecessarily stressful and difficult for staff.

On top of that, the level of responsibility expected is completely out of line with the pay. I found myself taking on tasks and duties that far exceeded what the role was advertised for and what the compensation reflects, with no recognition or adjustment for the extra work.

There was also an incident where I failed to complete a job because I simply ran out of time. I didn’t take any payment for it and informed the customer they would need to come back, yet I was still called in for a disciplinary. It felt like there was no understanding or flexibility for real-world constraints, and the outcome was unfair given I’d acted honestly and tried to resolve the situation appropriately.

Most seriously, for at least the last six months, I’ve endured harassment and abuse from one ADM. What makes this even more distressing is that it appears others in similar positions were overlooked or not held to the same standards due to their gender. This kind of unequal treatment and unacceptable behavior has created a hostile and unsafe work environment, and it’s something that should never be allowed to happen in any workplace.

Overall, I cannot recommend working for Timpson based on my experience with poor management practices, unfair performance assessments, mismatched responsibility and pay, and the lack of action taken to address harassment and discriminatory treatment.
