Good website with lots of tips and opinions from other travellers, although a little hard to manouver to what you want to find.......

The best place to research a holiday destination. Keep in mind though that everyone has different oreferences so what's 5 stars for me might not be for someone else. It takes some practice to understand if a place is right for you, even if everyone raves about it. For example, we selected an all-inclusive resort on Jamaica based on amazing reviews. We hated it, cheap cocktails in plastic cups, terrible wine, boring food, people everywhere. All shops outside the resort had died off, no one dared venture outside. We felt like we were in an expensive, boring prison. Others seemed to love it, but they probably wanted simplicity and safety rather than experiencing a different culture. But what's worse, I never reviewed this olace because the manager Scott read every review and wrote nasty replies to the few negative ones. He exposed personal details about their behaviour during their stay and basically told them they were all idiots. Since then I always check for negative reviews and how the manager responds. Are they humble or arrogant? That makes all the difference. Happy travels!

I find it diffucult to differentiate between the reviews given by travelers. Are they 20 or 70 years, are they “experienced” travelers, is it their first review, from which part of the world do they come - etc.

Love TripAdvisor and use it all the time for hotels and restaurants!
