Appallingly bad, patronising, clueless and unwilling to help

BEWARE: THIS COMPANY IS SUPPLYING ELECTRONIC DEVICES THAT DO NOT COMPLY WITH REGULATIONS

(For context, I'm an electrical engineer)

This review is especially important for any DIYers to buy good brands with proper installation documents.

This company took my money and are REFUSING TO HELP.

I purchased their UFH kit for a house renovation. I was assured it would come with all the necessary tech info. All the mechanical components were fine, but the electronic wiring centre and thermostats were cheap imports with little or no information, are not compliant with regs and potentially dangerous.

When it came to the install, a wiring diagram was provided for the wiring centre, which I noted had errors. I contacted their "Team of Experts" only to discover, they're not experts or even technical. They're office admins and sales staff reading from a script. "Always have a qualified electrician to install" etc. When you tell them, you ARE qualified, you get the same response - its simply in one ear and out the other.

They refuse to put you through to anyone technical, which suggests they don't have any tech staff. After dozens of calls getting nowhere, and months later, I gave up and purchased a Heatmiser wiring centre which is a known reliable brand, backed by tech expertise.

Next problem was with the thermostats. No installation instructions or wiring diagrams were provided, so back on the phone to their "experts". Yet again, no tech people to speak to and got sent diagrams that were wrong. Their diagrams were for BD4001 thermostat which is a fairly common stat, and that would have been easy enough. But, the stats they supplied with the kit had no model number, serial number, part number so it was impossible to know how to wire it up.

Back to their "team of experts", explain the issue with the thermostats and they send the exact same incorrect diagram again. In one ear and out the other. Back on the phone, I tell them their diagrams are wrong but they tell me to get an electrician? Then their manager Adam Kahn, jumps in. I ask him if he's technical. he says no. I tell him, I've been through it numerous times and would prefer to speak to technical. he says I'm "being rude" then slams the phone down on me. (I recorded the call) It was them being rude and deflecting - not me.

The issue with the thermostats is a major RED FLAG because 1) if there is no part, model or serial number, then it cannot be traced and is also against the law. 2) if the connections or the chip in thermostat are not specified or known, then it's a massive gamble to wire it up. This company provided 3 different diagrams all with different wiring schematics, so you could end up wiring to a connection that fries your boiler's circuit board and that could cost thousands to repair.

NOTE: Electronic device regulations in the UK and EU mandate that products MUST display specific identifiers—model numbers, type/batch/serial numbers, to ensure traceability, safety compliance, and environmental responsibility. These identifiers are legal requirements for CE marking (EU) and UKCA marking (UK)

The devices this company are selling have no identifiers or CE markings and are therfore not legal or compliant with regulations. I intend to report this company to trading standards.

Disaster.

Updating as there doesn't seem to be an option to reply to you.

1) I did not reply to your email because I'd asked you to help me chase down the plumber you recommended and your email was just to say you wouldn't be able to help me do this, there seemed to be no point in responding.

2) The original drawing has the manifold under the window, not under the stairs: these are nowhere near one another

3) The person who did the survey did not ask where my house's zone valves were or whether it even had any, otherwise I would have told him they were above the under stair pantry. As it was I didn't know this would be useful information when considering the location of the manifold so I didn't mention it and he didn't either. His only concern was proximity to the boiler, which was why the original drawing showed placement of the manifold under the windowsill.

4) I later asked for aesthetic reasons whether it could go under the sink instead so our wall wasn't covered in pipework etc. I am not a plumber: I do not without being told know that a pump and electrical panel also need to fit alongside the manifold and this was not said to me when I asked if the change could be made. I even specifically said if it would be a problem I am happy to stick to the original plan, but was told there shouldn't be any difficulty so long as I don't store food in the under sink cupboard.

5) When the guys came to install the system, they asked if I intended to continue to keep the bin under the sink because they were concerned food would go off more quickly close to the heat. I said I don't mind moving the bin, but also said again that if putting the manifold down there would cause difficulties I am happy to stick to having it on the window. I was told that there should be no problem at all having it there and was given no advice or information to suggest the sorts of problems I have since encountered. I have related this to you elsewhere without adequate response

6) I have been told by at least 2, possibly 3 plumbers that parts of the manifold were installed backwards and although there's enough space for the manifold itself, it is extremely difficult to fit everything else in around it, which was never explained to me at any time prior to installation.

ORIGINAL REVIEW
We spent a small fortune having underfloor heating installed downstairs in my home 7 weeks ago, but due to how poor Underfloor Heating Supply's communication and after care is (it's tempting to give a blow by blow account, there's a lot of specifics that could be shared here, but the review would become an unreadable length), this is still not connected to my boiler or functioning. The installation of the manifold is such that no plumber wishes to touch it (we've consulted with at least 10! I've had one quote of £750 for the job, but I am now being ghosted by them). I have gone back to UHS, but they have their money now so that's all that matters.

I feel like I've been scammed - it's going to be cold here over Christmas and there's no end to the problem in sight. We specifically chose these guys because they do the installation as well as supply the equipment, but the survey was so ineffectual and they don't plumb the system in, so at this point I have no idea why I've paid double the cost of the other quote I got.

Response to your post

Thank you for your detailed email. We have carefully reviewed the points you have raised and would like to clarify our position.

First, the documents and records in our possession do not reflect the statements you have made regarding the advice given or the circumstances described. Based on our review, we do not accept that the information available to us supports your conclusions.

With regard to pricing, we believe our rates are competitive when compared like-for-like with the wider market. We are confident that our charges are fair and proportionate for the scope of work undertaken.

It is important to clarify that we do not directly employ plumbers. As such, we do not have the authority or ability to compel independent plumbers or heating engineers to take specific actions, carry out remedial works, or engage further where they choose not to do so.

You have suggested that you are being “ghosted” due to the complexity of the issue. We would note that this is an assumption, and there may be several alternative reasons for a lack of response that are unrelated to the complexity of the work itself.

In response to the specific points you have raised:

We note your comment regarding a lack of response to our email. As stated previously, we were unable to assist in chasing a plumber we do not employ or control, and we do not accept that this constitutes a failure on our part.

The original drawing provided shows the manifold location as discussed at the time of the survey. Any subsequent changes to the location were requested after this stage.

The survey was conducted based on the information available and provided at the time. The location of zone valves was not raised during the survey, nor was it identified by you as relevant at that point.

The latter request to relocate the manifold under the sink was made for aesthetic reasons. While the manifold itself may fit in that location, associated components such as pumps and electrical controls also require suitable space; however, the electrical controls are not required to be in the adjacent proximity.

When installation took place, you were again given the opportunity to retain the original location, and you confirmed that you were content to proceed with the under-sink placement. No objections were raised at that time that would have prevented installation from continuing.

We cannot comment on opinions provided by third-party plumbers after the installation, particularly where they were not involved in the original design.

Given that we do not employ plumbers directly, we would suggest that if you wish to obtain further independent advice or alternative quotations, you contact heating engineers registered with either the Gas Safe Register or the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE).

We wish you the very best for the future and hope you resolve your situation quickly.

Worth every penny

After installing underfloor heating in my home, I can confidently say it’s one of the best home improvement decisions I’ve ever made. The difference in comfort was immediately noticeable. Gone are the days of stepping onto cold tiles in the morning, every room now has an even warmth without being overwhelming, prior to this we had heat ‘patches’ from radiators.

Steve and his team did a fantastic job from start to finish. They were professional, efficient, and clearly knew exactly what they were doing. The whole installation process was smooth and hassle-free, with minimal disruption. It’s not every day you find a team that’s both skilled and a pleasure to have in your home. Thank you to all @ Midland Flooring.

professional ,excellent underfloor heating installers

I have been using these guys for a few years now and reviewed here before. They never fail to impress me with both cost and installation of under floor and screed . They have done numerous jobs for carrying out the installs with minimum fuss and maximum skill and efficiency. Karl and his mate who install are absolutely first class. Very good customer service from initial contact to completion. They were recommended to me by another builder and I'm glad I contacted them. We are both very fussy with our finishes, with many being high end. these guys are perfect. Glad I found them and they'll be doing plenty more instals for me in the future.

I needed a new concrete floor to be layed and and leveled in my outbuilding. They completed the job on time and the quality of there work is 5 star.
