Cancelled in less than a year, but refused a refund

Update:
A rep reached out to me by email within 24 hours of this post. I'll get a full refund; the previous two months credited to my card, and the balance in a check that will be mailed to me.

I stand by my original review, and will let it stand as a warning to anyone else who may decide to cancel their USCCA membership. However, I will upgrade my rating as USCCA otherwise provided me with a good experience. My only issue with them was the "gotchas" when I cancelled my membership.

Original review:
After being a USCCA customer for 10 months, I called to cancel my membership. The phone rep was polite and offered me the option of a less expensive plan, but I declined. She informed me I was still covered for the rest of the current payment period.

After my paid up time elapsed, I didn't see a refund so emailed to inquire. I was told that because I didn't request a refund when I cancelled, the only refund would be for the last month.

This seems deceptive, and I'm very upset that because I didn't use the exact verbiage in the so-called "Bulletproof Guarantee", I'm not being refunded the entire amount of my dues. Now I understand why the phone agent was so helpful; she was steering me away from invoking the only magic words that would merit a refund.

The intent behind specifically requesting the “365 Day Bulletproof Guarantee” or a full refund is not to deceive or have a ‘gotcha’ moment with members, but rather to ensure their membership ends when the member intends it to. After I read about the Colie and Giles…

After I read about the Colie and Giles cases I'm not putting my freedom in the hands of Insurance companies, Juries make the decision of quilt or innocence not insurance companies, canceled a few days ago. the rep wouldn't listen to me just kept droning on about why I should stay really? so you people can bail on me if something happens? no thanks........ stay away.

We remain committed to educating and training responsibly armed Americans and providing access to the self-defense liability insurance policy that the USCCA has purchased. The insurance company is contractually required to provide coverage so long as you can, in good faith, assert self-defense as a justification under the law, so there is no "picking and choosing" involved.

Comment and Friendly Support

I am a USCCA Instructor. Occasionally I need help with the on-line content of my courses and publishing. Each time I've called Tech Support, it was a pleasant of productive exchange. Without exception the technician quickly identified the cause of the issue and promptly resolved the matter.
In the interest of honest disclosure, 99% of my problems are self created. Nonetheless, each interaction was respectful - even though I was the cause. What strikes me the most is how genuinely friendly the techs are. You can't fake that level of enthusiasm.

Change of levels. I was going to cancel due to the cost…

I was going to cancel due to the cost of the platinum level and while talking with Nathan, he asked if I would be interested in dropping down to the gold level. He took the time to explain the differences between the platinum and gold levels and I decided to go with the gold level.

The best customer service I’ve dealt with in the insurance industry!
Calls quickly answered by the support team all located within the United States.
They can answer any questions regarding your coverage, travel concerns, and the states that don’t recognize your license.
Plus the twenty four hour emergency response team is there and will walk you through your specific situation. Not only that, but you have the option of choosing your own attorney who they will contact immediately notifying them of your location so they are there when you need them most.
Exceptional company.

Really aggressive, unnecessary collection policies

I’ve had a pretty good experience with this company over the last year and I see the reviews are really good on trust pilot. But My yearly payment was due for membership and because my card on file had expired the payment didn’t go through. I’ve gotten relentless emails that seemed very aggressive and confrontational over this holiday weekend. Just based on their aggressive and unfriendly email reminders, I started looking at other insurance carriers. Their aggressive tactics really are not necessary

Love and trust USCCA!!

USCCA is supurb in their customer attentiveness! Their reps are ode to detail and work hard at making sure evey concern is addresed to our satisfaction! The insurance they have is excellent! We use USCA for insurance and training purposes for our armed security at our church.

Peace of Mind

This is an excellent and informative organization.
I am so glad I joined the USSCA as I have gotten so much out of what is offered through the videos and classes(and so much more), peace of mind.
I have been a member for years and will continue my membership. It is well worth the reasonable amount of money per month. I highly suggest checking out the USCCA and the benefits of being a member. My membership card is always with me.

I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this organization. No suggestions for improvement at this time either.

I am a USCCA Member since 2020.

Being a USCCA Member since 2020, there is great peace of mind knowing that there is a legal defense team on call 24/7 to meet my needs in court if ever I am involved in a self defense situation.

Subscriber to USCCA since 2017

I’ve been a subscriber to USCCA since 2017. Because of research, I have defensive incident coverage for both myself and my wife. It covers in case of armed critical incident. As well as self-defense via physical conflict, control holds and take downs. I was a soldier before I became a peace officer. I haven’t felt this well insured, since I was working in uniform. Cancelation Con

I couldn't afford it anymore. Back in February I cancelled my membership. I was told I had to call for verification, I did, was told it had to be put on hold for a month before cancellation. And if I DID NOT contact them the next month it would be cancelled it was not! I was charged anyway! I had to put a stop payment on my bank, which after I had received many emails saying payment didn't go through update payment. After back and forth on email I had to call again, did not get my money back and they tried to do the same con again! So tried to cancel was lied to charged anyway lied to again given the runaround and then tried to con me again! Nope DO NOT DO IT! (Edit: after they seen this review they refunded my money and actually closed my account)

We completely understand your frustration over the situation and apologize for your experience. The feedback that you also left on BBB regarding this situation has been responded to, but for clarity, we would also like to extend the information here.

It was never our intention to mislead you in any way. We have reviewed all of the calls, emails, and notes on your account to gain a better understanding of what happened and be able to improve our processes moving forward. During your initial contact on 01/23/2024, we never intended or stated that we would put your account on hold or suggested that it was canceled. Our goal was to offer flexibility given the circumstances leading to your decision to cancel. We proposed covering next month’s fee and following up with you in March to ensure you still wished to continue your membership. We appreciate that you found this arrangement to be helpful and as promised, we reached out via phone on 3/14/2024 and left a voicemail to confirm your continued membership. Unfortunately, despite our efforts, we didn’t receive a response from you until your call in April, which led to the charge for March and the continuation of your membership to prevent any lapse unknowingly.

As of your contact on 04/20/2024, your membership was canceled. There will be no further charges from us. Additionally, as there was confusion about the status of your membership after the February payment was waived, we have refunded the payment that came out in March for you. There will be a check mailed to you for $39.11. Again, we apologize for the frustration that you have experienced. Please let us know if there is anything else that we can do to further assist you.
