About Vets Now

Pet emergencies can happen at any time – including when your regular vet is closed.

That’s why our nationwide network of out-of-hours pet emergency clinics are open through the night, at weekends and on bank holidays, so we’re ready and waiting to provide expert pet emergency care when your regular vet is having some time off.

Our pet emergency clinics are the pet equivalent of A&E and our purpose is to give you and your pet the care and support you deserve, at the time you need it most, whether it’s four in the morning or in the middle of Sunday lunch.

Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from over 60 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and two 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 200,000 small animals every year — our highly-skilled team works hard throughout the night, weekends and Bank Holidays. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.

We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our two hospitals — in Glasgow and Manchester — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Check you if you can get similar medication from a pharmacy rather than paying £££ for basic meds. Great service otherwise.

Annoying I should have just got the medicine prescribed from a pharmacy and saved hundreds of pounds as the medicine was the same as human (eye drops) but the service was great. Really kind and caring staff and sorted my dogs eye right away.

Absolutely awful experience

Absolutely awful experience. The treatment given to our dog was pretty poor. It seemed that they were more interested in charging high consultation fees and not the welfare of our dog. When treatment was completed, they failed to speak to our insurance company but continually managed to demand payment from me. This ended with the bill be passed to a debt collection agency. After many calls to vets now, they managed to deal with the insurance company and get the money owed. If you have any sort of choice as to who you use for your pet’s care, please try and use another company!
As an addition to this review, thanks for asking me to contact you so that you can look into the issues with your service. Looking at other reviews it seems fairly pointless as your communication is at best appalling. So no thank you, I will ensure that I never use your services again! I have also moved vets to a company that does not use your services again for out of hours services. It is good to see that your failures are also resulting in other businesses losing customers.

Urgent out of hours advice needed

We needed urgent advice regarding our dog Colin who had injured his leg & we couldn’t stop the bleeding.
We phoned our usual vets to gain access to the number for the out of hours vet and were immediately put through to a call handler who was very friendly & supportive over the phone & got Colin booked in straight away.
The member of staff who greeted us upon arrival was very friendly and made us feel at ease.
The vet was very knowledgeable and supportive and listened to what we were saying without making us feel silly.
Most importantly she was kind to our dog Colin who had no idea what all the fuss was about!
We were relieved to know everything was okay and Colin made a full recovery and is now back to being a handful!
We were very happy with the overall experience and would recommend to other pet owners.

ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING EXPERIENCE!! GREED FOR PROFIT MARGINS!! NEEDS INVESTIGATING!

My small dog had somehow scratched his eyeball and his eye was forced closed and his face all swallon. Was told to go to this one which was 45 minutes away from me.i arrived at 7.15pm on a Saturday at the Lincoln branch not long after closing time for the practice to be empty with 3 young women bored on reception and a couple of vets all working overnight etc.we was seen straight away as noone there we was there literally around 10 minutes 3 minutes of such was actual exam and looking at him etc rest was talking. Vet came back said was scratched eye and dog needs antibiotic eyedrops (thinking they was special ones for dogs) no ...they was the same stuff humans use that costs around £10 or less to buy .. the vet also wanted to give a bottle of soothing eye drops to help it heal (basically saline drops) ..again cheap online.. vet then said I was going to prescribe them but our costing for the saline drops was around £105!!! To be then told by her that you can actually get the same thing on Amazon for £4.99 (which I did) so then went to the desk and was given a bill by one of the young girls no smile or anything all she said is ''thats £405 in total''!!! I looked at her and said why so much!? She explained it was £290 just to be seen for a appointment then it was £75 for the antibiotic eyedrops (even though there human ones for around £6-£10) then a £15 fee for a paper strip of dye they used on my dogs eye then she asked me will I be claiming insurance so I said well yes obviously I will at this cost for her to say ok so then we add another £25 fee for the claim classed as a admin fee (although all they do is tick a couple boxes sign the form and send the notes from the appointment all by email) hardly expensive stuff isit! Considering they payed a full wage anyway to work! So I then said well can you do a direct claim with my insurance and I showed them all the paperwork saying I was fully covered AND even a email from insurance stating I'm covered for emergency's etc and they will happily do a direct claim and pay upfront and that I would not be declined the claim. To be told a instant stern no we don't do direct claims. (Even though my normal vet and others I know do them easily) I paused and thinking to myself how I'm going to pay it as she kept looking at me with card machine in hand. I knew it wouldn't be cheap but that's dam right greedy! So I actually had to take the money from a pot I use for my medical care as I'm severely disabled and not allowed to drive etc due to my issues and I had to pay the fee in full . Now I know vets can be expensive for such things BUT iv done some research and out of 7 emergency vets i my area none of them charge anything like vets now charge! I had a conversation with another vet about it and they could not believe how much I was charged for less then 10 minutes actual work etc. This was my first time using them as I had no choice and was panicking at the time for my little dog so had to use these. But never again! It's not like they had to arrange a vet and staff to travel specially for me to be at the practice which would obviously be high In fees. They was all there anyway being bored! I totally agree with the other review on here about them being greedy for profit! This company seriously needs investigating or something or I can see them soon closing down due to lack of customers from extortionate fees! To put it in context my small dog had a cardiac heart scan done months ago at a specialist cardiac center and seen by a actual pet cardiologist etc and a lot of work was done even after the appointment and it didn't even cost half of what this recent bill was! And they even did a direct claim so I didn't need to pay it upfront etc ..so unless your trying to tell me that a small scratched eye that just needed 3 minutes of a vets time and a bottle of human eye antibiotics and small bottle of saline drops is more expensive then a actual cardiac scan at a specialist cardiac facility for pets and seen by a pet cardiologist then this company seriously needs looking into! And there pricing structure needs reviewing or even given a option of doing direct claims especially if your paying a upfront fee of £25 to do a claim then u should be allowed to not pay upfront and let the vet claim it! I'm honestly quite upset and stressed about how much it cost me but vets now 100 percent prey on desperate people needing help for there beloved pets and know they can charge what they want and people will pay it as they have no choice! They don't even give you a rough quote upfront to give a idea they just slap a bill at the end with whatever they want on it! (I mean come on £105 for a 10 ml bottle of saline drops that the same item costs £4.99 on Amazon is just dam right disgusting) maybe even give the option of offering a paper prescription then allow the customer to source it them selves online etc instead of being forced to use your items and pay!

Hi Wayne, thanks for your feedback on the cost of our service. As you may be aware, it’s a lot more expensive to run an after-hours emergency vet service. The greater running costs we incur are reflected in our prices. if i could give No stars i would they…

if i could give No stars i would they are absolutely awful wouldn't trust them to treat a snail. i have a 10 week old puppy that had unfortunately been bitten by an older dog on her face. i took her to vets now as they did a "28 Day consent to pay" and it was a few weeks until pay day. i was aware of the charges at the time of the visit and signed to agree them . even though i got a very full on attitude from the vet that treated her. i made the vet aware that she had not had her second vaccinations and got the sarcastic reply of "well we wont put her on the floor then" i spent less than 18 minutes in the practice from arriving to leaving they looked at her and tried to just scare us telling us how she could be brain damaged or lose her eye, or have a bleed on the brain or have an orbital fracture. they never looked in her eye with a scope just pulled her eye lids open and closed it. they then gave her two injections and then stated that i need to see how she went and go to my vets tomorrow. i then spent 10 minutes waiting for the vet with attitude to type her notes up and was informed the bill was a ridiculously £354.00 (this included an out of hours fee of £300, was originally i was told it was £275 on the phone they never chose to not add the plus vat part!!). i paid a down payment of £80 and was told that if she did have insurance to let them know and they will get it sorted!. i discovered two days later that her breeder (i had puppy a week by now) had registered her 4 weeks free insurance so i rang them up to be told i needed to fill out the insurance paperwork for them and they would charge me £25.00 admin fee...... which was tagged on to the end of the phone call (no paperwork signed in agreement!) i chose to not fill out the paper forms they provided and did as my insurance advised and filled out the online form they had on there website. the claim has been going ahead and i have today found out that even though i filled out the paperwork with the insurance i am required to pay an admin fee of £25.00 for 2 minutes of work where they send the vets notes to the pet plan online portal for a claim i put forward and i have to pay there Insurance Admin team's time for this (even though due to her age she had no past medical history). i am absolutely disgusted with this vets i have used them twice and this is the second time they have only thought about the money and not the animals welfare and been very blunt about the fact they can only give pain relief and euthanise them. the vets are pushy and rude and they just want to charge you the earth for a service you wouldn't get from a rubbish takeaway.

i will NEVER be going back to them i wouldn't trust them with any animals especially not mine!!!

i was also told that if i didn't pay the admin fee they would send it to a debt collector to recover yet the amount yet again another example of money mad vets!!

on a plus note and no help from them there vet was completely wrong and my now 14 week old puppy is perfectly health and not
any issues of lasting damage to her body (but the praise for this is for my own common sense vets that saw her the next day)

I Spoke to there insurance team regards the fee but they were not at all helpful they just argued back and didn't want to help or understand the situation they never apologised for the fact they never told me sooner she just stated i was told and that because i was told i was aware so it was payable. when i questioned the fact the charge was very steep for 2 minutes of time they stated that they have over 60 practices and the process takes time.

Poor treatment

We had a truly horrendous experience when we took our very sick dog in as an emergency out of hours, which was covered by Vets Now. We eventually made the decision that the time had come to put our beloved dog to sleep. The vet on duty appeared to have no compassion or sympathy for the position we were in. There were no words of comfort or reassurance, and in fact we were never even told our dog had passed, the vet simply walked out. She didn’t speak to us or even look at us, and made what was an already traumatic time far worse. This person should not even be in this profession if that’s how she deals with people. I will be making a formal complaint ASAP.
