Find An Emergency Vet
Pet Care Advice
Customer Hub
Pet emergencies can happen at any time – including when your regular vet is closed.
That’s why our nationwide network of out-of-hours pet emergency clinics are open through the night, at weekends and on bank holidays, so we’re ready and waiting to provide expert pet emergency care when your regular vet is having some time off.
Our pet emergency clinics are the pet equivalent of A&E and our purpose is to give you and your pet the care and support you deserve, at the time you need it most, whether it’s four in the morning or in the middle of Sunday lunch.
Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from over 60 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and two 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 200,000 small animals every year — our highly-skilled team works hard throughout the night, weekends and Bank Holidays. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.
We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our two hospitals — in Glasgow and Manchester — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

My dog had some kind of seizure at was not able to get up. I thought she was having a stroke. I immediately rang the out of hours service to be told that I had to go to Portsmouth which is an hour away from where I live. I needed some urgent advice on the phone as I didn't know if it was safe to move my retriever as she was unable to walk. It took an hour for someone to ring me back. This is totally unacceptable and the advice I was given was not helpful. I rang another company to see if there was a nearer emergency vet and go through to the same service to be told again the nearest vet was an hour away. I was also not told about your charges. When I got to Hilsea I was unable to find the practise so I rang again to be told by the switchboard operator that he didn't know where the practise was as he wasn't local. He then wanted all my details again at which point I stopped him and asked him to put me through to someone who could give me directions. When I arrived I had to ask for help to get my dog out of my car and my dog was just taken away from me and I was NOT allowed to be with her whilst she was examined. Again this is not acceptable. I then had to wait for the results of blood tests and asked if I could be with my dog and was told I couldn't. I have never before not been allowed to be with my dog when she is being examined - again not acceptable. My dog was incredibly frightened and I needed to be with her. As it turned out it would probably have been better if I had just kept my dog at home as she recovered and the vet did not know what caused the seizure. It cost me over £500 and I am very angry about the whole awful experience. I am not complaining about the vet I saw who was professional and nice but I am complaining about the whole experience and the fact that I had to drive such a long way with a very traumatised large dog for her to be further traumatised by being taken away from me for over an hour and a half. The receptionist was pretty rude and seemed bored and totally uninterested in helping anyone in a very busy waiting room. She was very surprised when I asked for a written receipt and for a copy of the blood tests. The vet asked very few questions as as I have already said I did not see her examine my dog as I wasn't allowed in the consultation. She wanted to try to keep my dog in overnight until I objected and also wanted to try to give her medication for epilepsy even though she did not know what had caused the seizure. Luckily I am a practitioner so I did not consent to this.
I have just found out that Vets Now have NOT SEND THROUGH the blood test results to my vet and that they did NOT have the details of where my dog is registered despite my giving them and they have not send me a copy either which I asked for. APPALLING service and I paid over £500 for this??? Disgusting.
